Thanks, Josh, for all of your kind, courteous and thoughtful answers to my many questions. Much appreciated! This is an unprecedented boom year for RV sales. When we bought our sweet Rockwood 2109s in late 2019, the local California Bay Area dealers were bursting with inventory...and we got a great deal! Now- all of those dealer lots are looking pretty sparse. I feel lucky to have what we do! I wonder how long this boom will last? BTW- I just upgraded our 2109s to Goodyear Endurance tires...and went to the next larger size, too. And two big Trojan 6v GC-2 batteries. So....Full Speed Ahead! Maybe we'll come visit lovely Coldwater!

MFG websites are frankly among the least useful of resources for this most of the time. Rarely are they actually up to date.

Josh- If you want to suggest an improvement to Rockwood- here's one: PLEASE install a LIGHT BLOCKING shade on the front window! Darkness is medically vital to proper sleep. The current skimpy pleated "privacy shade" does NOT get the job done! All it takes is a bright nightlight outside to light up the interior where you are trying to SLEEP and there you are. Not to mention the rising dawn sun...or those ridiculous intense LED lights RV builders are now installing on the nose that some inconsiderate owners leave on all night, like a convenience store.

Nice layout, though I personally would go with the Cougar 22RBS. This would probably be a good choice for someone with a really low tow capacity Half-ton (7k range), since the Cougar does weigh 700-900 lbs more.

Hey Josh, another great walk through! Is this a 30 or 50 amp service? Has Rockwood gone to Azdel yet? Also what size inverter is being used? Is it convenient to get to the reset button on it? Man, a couple of Li batteries,a 3000 watt multiplus charger/inverter would make this perfect!....darn close already :) Good job Rockwood and Hayletts!!!

Josh, maybe this is a dumb question, but I'm gonna ask anyway...On the inverter outlets, does one plug use the inverter and the other shore power? Are both tied only to the inverter or do they switch between inverter and shore? Don't know much about solar power, but learning....
I'm still learning that stuff as well, so no worries. Better to ask the questions!
Think of the plug sort of like a Residential Refrigerator...
* NORMALLY it just feeds off the shore power like normal
* BUT... if you aren't plugged into park power/generator, then you can turn the inverter on and suck extra juice from the battery to power the outlet
Just remember the inverter taxes your battery supplies heavily, so be conservative with your use!

We were supposed to of seen some in January, I’m thinking it’s probably going to be closer to March
Rockwood builds presold models first before anything comes in stock for a dealers general inventory. This is one of the very most popular models in their entire line up, so basically none have been available for dealers with very few exceptions
So essentially… If it’s the one you would like, then call her team and we can get one with your name on it. We’re estimating three or four months for even a personal build though. That’s how far out they are with production right now even on a pre-sold unit
This years version of this is very nice. Curious if the optional fridge/solar system is installed do you get a pair of battery's , or is that a separate upgrade ?
Batteries are not included from the factory. We include the first one here at no extra charge with the ability to add extras or different varieties as you please

I do not. Theater has become overwhelmingly popular in this setup

I guess I'm old school and use my camper for sleeping, preparing meals, eating and then spending all my time outside enjoying mother nature instead of sitting in front of a TV. We are purchasing a 2021 Rockwood 2109S. We love it. I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD OffRoad W/Towing package. I'm a little concerned about the weight. What do you think?
I'm operating from memory, but with about a 6,500lb tow rating a 2109S shouldn't give you any real issues (assuming proper hitching/braking of course)

Rockwood is and has been the #1 selling ultralite for longer than I've been in this business & has the largest following among retirees of any brand in this class. They set the gold standard really in almost all regards -- quality standards included
Forest River has a 3rd party auditing service randomly pull/check units from each of their factories. The only brand that has ever sniped Rockwood on the quality front is Freedom Express a few times.
I won't say any brand is perfect, but with the volume Rockwood puts out vs the low rate of claims they're about as close as you can reasonably get

They made the similar 2109S for one season with a murphy bed and basically it failed (which shocks me...)
Rockwood doesn't make THIS one with a murphy bed, but they are coming out with a new very similar model with murphy setup -- our first ones haven't rolled in quite yet though.

Josh, how soon will this unit start coming in stock? My thoughts are that this RV would work an extended 13-week stay. My 2020 Toyota Tundra 5.7L is suitable for around 10k in towing rating. Your thoughts Josh, thanks in advance 👍
Unfortunately we really do not have a good idea when we'll be seeing stock on a regular basis. There still such a huge backlog that needs to be worked thru. We're a long way off from a "Normal 6-8 week" replacement schedule
That tundra should yank this around pretty readily though!
I like that the camper is still functional with the slide in. Hop this is a trend. Not all overnight stops have the room to open up.
Only question is what are all the wrenches for in the front storage?.

Josh- why is that carpet on the floor in front of the slide? Seems a trip hazard and a cleaning hassle, too!
Also, when using the folding table that comes with the rig, its feet must be half on the carpet and half on the floor when dining. That seems very awkward to say the least...uneven and tricky to move.
There must be a better way...
Rockwood spent most of their engineering time last year making 20 new models (which is a LOOOOT considering most brands have maybe 4-6 new models in a year).
Meanwhile many others did things like worked on removing carpeting from slides (which isn't always as simple as just changing the material used)
I'd be surprised if Rockwood continued with Carpeting moving forward

That Cougar 22RBS is really nice.
But may be a tad hefty for my TV. Plus, its over 25' long (why do they call it a 22?). And it loses the "slide in" flexibility that the Rockwood 2205s and 2109s have. I also notice that- while the slide is carpetless- there is still that "shelf" at the base of the couch. Ah, everything is a compromise!! Both are wonderful rigs!

Hi Josh, what is the difference between this model and the FLAGSTAFF MICRO LITE 22FBS? Honestly, they look the same to me.
This does have a outside hook up for propane where the table is correct. Also if you put two 190 solar panels WhT size inverter do you need. Also what size truck would you use to pull this trailer
Yes outside lp connect
Inverter size isn’t determined by solar btw. But rather what you’re trying to use with the RV. The 1000w inverter does the same thing regardless of which solar package you go with

Still my #1 choice in a trailer. I wish other brands would adopt the seamless awning style windows, ventless floors and a true queen. Those lack of features are deal breakers for me. The only thing I wish for is a washer/dryer unit in a corner somewhere in a small package like this. That would be the elusive "perfect" rv.
The trick with W/D setups in small campers is how much space you need to reserve for something not commonly sought after in the small RV Market
BUT... markets constantly change and though I don't yet see a lot of calls like this for a W/D in a small camper I am seeing a few more of them here and there. SOME brand will do it eventually I'm sure
I keep hoping that brands would figure out a way to make a washer fit in the outside kitchen area. That would make a perfect option.

Josh, love your videos. Always have. You are the Best at what you do. Very informative. This particular model, the 2021 Rockwood 2205S. Would I be comfortable towing this with a Nissan Pathfinder. 4.0 6 cylinder engine?
6000 lb towing capacity?
Even with the larger 6000 pound towing package I don’t think this is a good pairing with the Pathfinder. It’s empty weight before any cargo is simply more than I like to recommend
I ordered one, arrive April or May 2022, and I have a Ford Ranger 2019. It can pull up to 7,500 pounds. I’m looking at around 6,600 total weight which is under my max weight. I can’t wait to get my 2205S. Enjoy

Nice unit. One thing that I don't like is the two wardrobe closets are set back so far due to pass-through storage it would appear difficult to put clothes in there without climbing on the bed.
The driver's side has the water heater under that hutch. It definitely eats into the walk around space.

Hey Josh thanks for your video! Wondering if you can share how far back the theater dinette seats recline? Do you have any video of that? Specially looking at the 2205S Rockwood Mini Lite. Just curious if it’s an extra sleeping option if needed.

Sometimes I will show one reclined next to one just open but not always
I can tell you they don’t why flat completely, but they are wall huggers and will probably get you about 75% there
You state that the solar panel can run the 12v fridge "indefinitely". Assuming judicious use of other power-consuming items, and reasonable sun, really?
Yes. Assuming decent sun it takes about 90w of solar to offset that fridge
The larger panel allows for more leeway and use of lights
Obviously there are a bunch of variables in environmental factors and how you use the rv
@@JoshtheRVNerd No question. We'll have the 190W panel on the roof, and an 80W portable to team with it. We camp a lot in Natl Parks where they don't have electric. We don't use much other electric (lights to a minimum, fan for propane heater maybe). We like the option of a propane fridge, but that seems to be going away. Having a fridge is pretty important on a longer off-the-grid trip trip, so I was hoping I could make it work. We also have a 2200w generator for no cloudy spells. Thanks much for your help. Really appreciate your be videos. Always learning, always amused.
Those new entry steps concern me.
What if you are parked next to a curb? Also if stored close to a wall or another trailer. The old pull out style seems to shine in those situations. And you MUST swing that new ladder type down to get into the rig or it blocks the door.
Can you still order these with the old type step?
If by a curb it’s likely temporary. You will simply want to keep the door held back while you hop in. No other steps are available

No worries! The Mini Lite series is not currently using azdel. Only the Geo & Roo.
I love this rig! Question: Does Rockwood Mini Lite use Azdel laminate on all 4 walls? I read that only the back wall had it, then some said sidewalls were added on Mini Lites made after Oct 2018. Very confusing. I'll bet you know the real facts on this!
The azdel in the rear wall was temporary last year only due to a lauan shortage after a few natural disasters sucked up lauan supplies
They're using it on the sidewalls of Rockwoods 26FT and shorter
This is my favorite layout/feature trailer so far. Except....carpet on the slide! I would want the standard dinette in the slide so wouldn't want carpet. Only advantage I can see for carpet in the slide is maybe temperature control? Love the storage for full-timing!
Cougar's version is carpetless & actually boasts a heavier insulation package (albeit for more money and weight so there's an offset)
How is the ground clearance? Black/grey pipe clearance? My wife would love the dark cabinets...

I don't have hard measurements for ground clearance, but Rockwoods aren't know for pipe-drag issues for about 10 years now when they standardized a taller chassis/larger tire setup.
LOONG ago they used to have tiny 13" tires and would sometimes have pipe-drag issues on speed bumps. That's history though

Why does the manufacture put shag carpet on the slide floor? Gets dirty so quickly.
The carpet IN the slide isn't the hard part to remove -- it's the carpet in front of it. This slide is designed to basically use the carpet to help glide in and out
Removing it is possible, but require the slide to be re-engineered a bit
They're actually working on removing carpeting from their lineup. It just takes time.
This travel trailer is really nice! I'm looking to buy/finance a new travel trailer or toy hauler up to around $10,000. Solar Panel, 12 V refrigerator, no recreation electronics installed, tv, stereo etc (only the hookup connections), dry weight around 5000 lbs.

I know it can happen. I've never seen it happen. A million things are more likely to occur before a sink drops

Josh- Since the 2205s has a 80" long bed, as opposed to the shorter bed in the 2109s, is the "chest storage" area at the foot of the bed (above the 3 drawers) larger on the 2205s than in the 2109s? Thanks!
I don't believe it is, but I would have to check. I don't know them quite to that level of specificity. I think the area behind it just grows

Question: I have a 2006 Toyota Tundra, had since new, fantastic condition. I am going to put on 4 new Bilstein Shocks all the way around, add a RoadMaster Suspension system, equalizer WHD/Anti Sway. My truck is rated at 7100 lbs tow, 1300 lbs CCC. I have the 4.7 engine with tow package.
This 2205S is 23'10 long, GVW 6690 lbs, Dry weight 5004 lbs M/L, hitch 530 lbs. I wouldn't add more than 1,000 lbs cargo so that would put me at 15% below my tow max on my truck. My cargo in my truck would be about 600Lbs total.
Am I safe with the weights to tow this camper? Or should I be looking at a smaller, lighter camper?
*probably,* but this isn't a really effective medium for really important topics like this one. For things like this I always recommend speaking with our team members. Understand we cannot easily predict how aftermarket upgrades will affect towing as well

Thanks for your videos! I have a 2021 Lincoln Aviator that has the class IV towing package and trailer brakes controller installed. I have a 6700 towing capacity and a payload just north of 1400lb. Is this trailer suitable for my SUV, or am I cutting it too tight for longer drives and for driving through some mountain roads? We like this model, but would like an alternative should this be unsafe. thanks
I felt you were cutting it too tightly, then I saw the "Mountain Roads" and that put the nail in the coffin. I would not personally pull this trailer with that vehicle when loaded thru mountains. Local flatlands perhaps. But nothing adverse like that

@@roberttravers5839 That one gives me a MUUUUUCH better feeling. Please understand thru that mountain terrain you're still going to work that thing HARD. I personally have only a small amount of personal experience with towing in those kinds of conditions so please use caution
For flat land southern michigan towing I wouldn't even flinch.
For that kind of towing it might still be working the vehicle uncomfortably hard. When you move up into elevation the air gets thinner and you lose a LOT of horsepower as a result. I've had clients advise they'll shift out of drive and manually down in to something like 3rd gear just to maintain the power they need
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I want to make sure you understand fully what you're getting into before that paycheck is spent
@@JoshtheRVNerd This is my last question. The good news is that my payload is actually higher than I wrote originally. I'm actually at 1644, and not 1400. Am I better with a lighter trailer (4600lb) that might have a heavier tongue weight (560 lb) or a slightly heavier trailer (4800 lb) with a lighter tongue weight (480 lb)? Which one will be better for my vehicle and occasional mountain roads?

Is the front shade now a true "blackout" shade? On our 2018 2109s, its a basic pleated shade and if there is any light outside, it comes right thru....

You absolutely can. Rockwood has no western production, so every Rockwood has to get towed out there. Factory drivers cost more than aftermarket, so we may actually be able to save you a bit given the opportunity

Ya know, I want to order a new 2205s but there is a problem:
That nice new swing-down step requires about 3 feet of clearance in order to swing down. And if you can't swing it down, you can't open the door!!! A LOT of us have storage situations that have limited side clearance. It can happen on the road too. And high curbs at parking places. I'd REALLY like to order my new rig with the "classic" pull out steps, like my 2109s (2018 model year) has. Is this possible? Thank You- John
Rockwood does not offer any other steps. The mor/rydes are all they use. No special request available for anything otherwise. Take a look at this: bit.ly/3crRtTa

It’s within your max ratings with a little cushion. I would just recommend checking your payload vs it’s hitch weight (remember to leave some room for passengers and cargo)

When I list of links in those little chart it is the total tip to tail tongue to bumper maximum length of the RV. The model number often roughly designates a box size, but that is very loose

Ironically the #1 request I get on something like this layout from cougar with a standard king bed is "Can i get it with a queen?" LOT of people still want queens.

I am the owner of this Trailer and I am 6'3" 265, me and my wife fit fine on the bed.
The theater seating. Can this be used for an additional sleeping area?
I kind of call it more a "Napping space" than a "Sleeping space" if that makes sense. It doesn't fold totally flat, but pretty close.
Josh - Where does the table get stored when not in use?
I would just lie it face down on the bed during the day since it's rarely in use at that time

if equipped with a Dinette: how long would it be?
Rockwood doesn't give dimensions for it strangely, but looking at similar sizing from other brands that do I can say it'll be close to 42 x 72
It would be a 2-bench dinette. Not a U-Dinette

So the good news here is your vehicle is vastly more capable than this camper needs -- which is *awesome* btw :)
You won't need anything super special or anything like that. My go-to preference on this size is a Recurve R3 system. It's both load leveling and anti-sway plus operates far more quietly vs. most friction anti-sway systems
Frankly.. your vehicle likely doesn't need any hitching at all to haul this just fine. BUT.. you would never regret having it and I would always recommend it
