I love my 16700s and 16900a. They are fun to hack around on. Keep in mind that these can be separate repair and restoration projects like the old computers being worked on here. Time, money, effort so you've gotta like messing with these. While you can find deals, good t&m equipment is pricey. Bus pirate and saleae clones can be had for reasonable prices, but then you deal with limited or unsupported software to drive them. No magic bullet for cheap, easy, and powerful.
I picked up an old HP 1671G a few years ago for about $250 - It has 6 pods (16 chan each) and a 2 channel 1Gs scope. It needed a new CMOS battery (Dallas chip surgery). Don't buy any old logic analyzer without pods and cables which are unobtanium after the fact.
