We're at the Harwood Bar and Grill in Harwood, ND. In this podcast episode we talk about our Thanksgiving traditions, Our first caller asks about coffee snobs and has some corrections for Charlie's book, next caller is wondering what's Charlie and Myles main pet peeves are, last caller of the day campaigns for Alaska to be apart of the Midwest.

As an Alaskan I am so proud to be accepted into the Midwest, also as another Alaskan the lay down thing is only for tourists from the lower 48 without a gun and usually ends bad we use our voice for black and brown bears first, then a warning shot or some spray and if that doesn’t work we unload in their shoulders so if the shots don’t kill them it’ll stop them chasing you. If you do run into a polar though your pretty much up a creek without a paddle and might as well start a rosary
I feel like that should now be switched to non Midwestern states. Also as a michigander we welcome Alaska to the Midwest with open arms

Gotta say, my part of Alaska also has pulltabs everywhere, and it seems like it's mostly midwesterners that have any idea what those are.
Used to be a French press guy... then I found out about cowboy coffee. Boil a good ol pot of water take a fistful of coffee and throw it in there. Once ready take off heat andput a cup of cold water in. The grounds will sink to the bottom. The trick to getting it real good never wash that pot just rince it out. The first few are mediocre but once you give it that nice seasoning you can't get better coffee anywhere.
The most honest setting for a podcast. You have a real Midwest "cheers" vibe.
The Midwest Survival Guide is a great bathroom book. I bring it with me in there, and I’m good to go!

As a person from Michigan, (who grew up with the Lions never winning) I gave up on them. I went to college football and I’ve been a wolverine my whole adult life. This last season watching them win the national championship really brought home to me how important it is to see the team you love win it all. I just stood there and sobbed knowing that at my age I probably won’t see that again. It was very emotional and I was left thinking “now what do we do” but we did it and we went the distance. To all the loyal football fans who love their team. I hope you get to experience that joy because there’s nothing in the world that compares. It’s so funny because people ask me why it means so much to me and I can’t tell you why I just know that it does. So I’m looking for a new football team because I’m rather disillusioned with mine. My heart will always remember U of M team 144.

god how i wait for these two gems.
there is more saltlife stickers in the midwest and inland than on the coast!!! this guy is 100% correct. i live at the beach (used to live in the midwest) and rarely see saltlife stickers here, but they're littered inland
The amount of salt life stickers on pontoon boats in these parts is hilarious to me
My favorite is the Tom & Jerry's b4 dinner. So fun and delicious. You cannot find this in Georgia or Southern States. Love dressing! The southern people do not put it in the turkey! I'm glad I grew up in Minnesota. ❤
Im a new alaskan and i gotta say it matches up pretty well with what i know of the midwest, we even have holiday here lmao
I worked at kwiktrip for 6 years and I always would say "have a good day" and then wait for the "you too", or whatever response they would give, and then i would follow it up with a "we'll see you next time" as they're turning to walk away so it wasn't so awkward.
The most midwestern part about this episode is the lady hittin' the slots behind them. Hasn't she heard of pull-tabs?

Minnesota guy here. We say , “The Cities. “ And that encompasses all of the twin cities area. We use all other cities names. So, Chicago is just Chicago. We don’t really care one way or the other about Chicago though. Haha. I understand a sconie calling it the city. It is closer to them. The cities is the twin cities area for us in MN though. Haha. Love you guys!

I live in the interior of Alaska. A Northern Minnesota transplant. I will agree with that Bear advice. I have had many run ins with Grizzly And black bears out on my adventures in the remote bush. If attacked by a black bear fight back. Play dead if its a Grizzly. That's only IF you dont have a firearm on you, And I always have a firearm on me. To be honest, black bears have caused me more problems over the years than grizzly's. And yes, black bears are just as dangerous as a grizz. People get attacked by them quite often in Alaska. Anywho, great podcast guys!
I grew up in the Midwest, but moved to the east coast 13 years ago. I love listening to the podcast to remind me of all the things I love about the midwest. 🥲
Moved to eastern Washington state a couple years ago and there are so many Midwest vibes here it’s crazy!
Have never stepped foot in the Midwest, but my time in eastern WA has made me say “ope” on a daily basis now

@@chaddurall6862 - Right! I grew up in Cheney, and have lived in Spokane for almost 20 years. The funny part is my oldest brother now lives in Michigan, and it’s all so relatable. Every time I go visit it feels so familiar.

As a diehard Detroit Lions fan, I humbly accept everything you guys said about us. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. Can you guess what my least favorite holiday tradition is? Exactly, you nailed it. I just want to be able to sit back, belly’s full of mom’s delicious food, and enjoy a Lions W with my 2 sons. I’m not asking much 🤣🤦🏽♂️🍻

The lions lose every year to bring Michigan closer together. To remind families that there's life outside of football and maybe, just maybe, its time to take the kids out to the lake again before the big freeze. They do this on purpose for all the good hard working families of the great north. True heroes in my book

As an Alaskan who has looked around and asked officials, the minimum I’m you should carry just to scare the bear is a .45. When you come across one though, is just keep doing what you’re doing. They know you are there. Just be ready, but don’t freak out. 6/10 times they just want to say hi, 2/8 they just accidentally came by and went bye bye themselves. That last 2/10 when come is when you act and worry
I like some IPAs, but grew up with Grain Belt.

Crazy bear mace story I read about a few years back. It was online so you know it is true. 😏 There was a man hiking with a group when he came upon a grizzly or brown bear. The guy whipped out the bear mace but unfortunately the wind blew it back into his face and incapacitated him. The other hikers say that when the bear attacked the smell of the mace was so strong thr bear actually couldn't stand it and left him alive. Has anyone else heard this story and if so did it have merit?

Brown bears usually just wanna go by doin their business. Just let yourself be known, keep making a bit of noice and they will adapt. If you hear a whisteling sound tho, usually means momma bear has observed you being close to her children, this is the time to slowly back the fuck away.
Same approach with wolves (at least gray), they will avoid you if given the notice. When startled tho they might attack

Bears are omnivores, not predators like a tiger or lion so they dont go for the kill bite, They will just hold u down and eat you alive like a salmon
