He isn't much for social media (I think he keeps a Twitter account, but that's about it). Ping Lim, who has also contributed so many wonderful roses with his breeding work. He has a semi-active page on Facebook. 🥀🌞🌹You’re no slouch yourself, Jason. You and Zimmerman have guided my brown-thumb through an emotional time inheriting my Aunt’s rose garden and helping me though my trepidation of gardening as a hobby, especially during an unusually difficult 2020-21🦠. Thank you so much for sharing your videos and for this list of great resources-I look forwarding to following all of them-Peace.✌️
This is a wonderful video!!! Paul is a favorite and has taken my rose garden next level with his advice and he always replies to comments. Rose Geek is also a gem and one of the loveliest people you could hope to talk roses with. Also props to Jamie for his excellent content.
Love to see a video on roses for certain climates. I’m here in the Lower Mainland in the wettest coldest May I can remember. We also had the “heat dome” last year and my knockout roses did the best in that scenario. I’m up in the North shore mountains and the elevation also plays a role.
Hi Jason. What a kind and lovely thing to do. Count yourself in as well. I’ve watched many of your videos and they are really good. You have a wonderful way of keeping it all approachable while still conveying very good, in-depth information. Hope to meet someday.
Hello Jason, I´m afraid you have forgotten to put someone very special on your list, YOU are my rose-guru. Thank you for mentioning all the other influencers, some I knew about, others are new to me and I will check them out! Best wishes, Hanni.
Thank you for highlighting Kenneth Rollins from Rose Addicts! He has taught so many of us many great things as well as introduced so many amazing places to purchase from as well as his recipe for Rose Tea!
It was my pleasure Danielle. I only joined the group a couple of months ago, but I could see right away that there's something special in the community you all have built. Kenneth has set exactly the right vibe: inclusive and positive!
You are a major reason why I have confidence in trying and coming to adore roses. I’m still very new but you have taught me so much. Your knowledge is comprehensive and you are so down to earth, and humble. I’m not one for snobbery and that vibe can be a major reason why I don’t watch some RUclips channels. I have to enjoy watching and connecting with the creator. Also, you’re Canadian and although I live on the East Coast and our climate is pretty different I love to watch and learn from you. My favourite videos are on the types of roses and their history! I’ve watched a lot of those videos (and others) many times! Give yourself a pat on the back! :)
Thanks so much for your kind words and encouragement! I'm glad you've enjoyed the rose class histories - they're some of my favorite topics (even if they're not the most popular thing I do!)
Watching this 2 years later gives me a good chuckle because roses had a raging comeback, especially through Korean, Japanese and Chinese influencers that gave DA, Kordes, Meilland and Baranoie Orientis a huge upswing. But from you I have also learned a lot, especially when it comes to roses in containers, as I only have a terrace to my name.
I find your vlogs informative, reassuring and they never seem to drag. Our climates are like complete opposites and yet I find myself coming back to your channel repeatedly; my Rose Hotline 😂😍
Neat list, Mr. Jason. Been following all of these professionals and enthusiasts (along with your delightful channel)... I just happened to chance upon the Rose Geek channel and chatted with her in comments, just before I saw ur video now. Such a happy coincidence.. And then I happened upon the video of Herr Der Rosenmeister (I didnt know it was him) narrating the origin story of how the name came to be, his passion as he talks about roses is so endearing (Also helps that he used to be a teacher). Such a masterclass in rose propogation through cuttings.. (the same videos you had linked.) All I can say is my RUclips algorithm is leading me to all the right videos.. Very engaging and educational... Will check all of them out... Thanks.
ohhhh I love this! Thank you Jason. Funny thing is that I'm new to this world and have found some interesting people. To start, you!! I've learned a lot from you!! And I just found Der Rosenmeister before I watched this video. What an interesting man!! And the stories he tells are amazing! His property is absolutely beautiful! And I'm glad you included the Rose Geek. Oh my goodness, I just saw the date on this video. I'm late to the show. But that's what great about youtube, we can go back and watch. Much success to you!
Thanks Jason - great introduction to these guys and follow Michael who I was lucky to be tutored by many moons ago on the rose pruning courses at DA roses-a wealth of knowledge and experience - don't forget w all follow you as well and you are very much a go-to source - I do hope there is plenty of accommodation where you are when we all start to travel again - you need to be running courses!
Love this. I follow several of these rose lovers, including The Rose Geek, Paul Zimmerman and My Therapy Garden and I'm a member of Rose Addicts and Rose Geeks on FB. I'll have to check these others out as well! Thank you!
Nice one Jason, thank you - Paul Zimmerman is a super rosarian who, like you is very generous with advice and suggestions to amateur's like me. Bunny Guinness, in England has a lovely RUclips channel and she's a friend to roses and gardens in general - she is David Austin's niece. I'm in far south Australia now, and my favourite rosarian was Susan Irvine, sadly she passed a couple years ago, but for Aussies her books are definitely worth seeking out - after being a head teacher, she devoted her life to growing thousands of roses over several gardens in Victoria and then Tasmania - I just hope all that love and knowledge and those beautiful gardens she created won't be forgotten. I suppose that's the joy of gardening, that we hope to make things better and rose growers like yourself and others can leave a lasting legacy of beauty for future generations. Enjoy... And thanks... :) .
Thanks so much for your comments and recommendations. I've definitely enjoyed Bunny Guiness' work, but I'll have to see what I can find on Susan Irvine
I bought a rose bush. I promptly plopped into a huge pot, with the wrong soil and it grew just fine. So did the 2nd one. Then I ran across your channel! Lol!
The power of networking is tremendous. Jason @Fraser Valley Rose Farm I love your choices and most of them I know. Your channel, Paul Zimmerman, Rose Geek and Der Rosenmeister's work I'm very familiar with. Thanks for turning us on to other voices in the rose garden. Yes, Paul Zimmerman's no nonsense rose approach is really good - for example - he shows you how to get the Japanese Beetles into the pail of soapy water - "Whamp" then I think he calls them little bastards. Hehe!!!! The Rose Geek I've been following probably from her beginning. I can't keep up with the prodigious amount of content - and all carefully analyzed, documented etc. I definitely see the resemblance that you pointed out - You are both fantastic supporters of evidence based rose management. Der Rosenmeister - I KNOW how he got that name, its in a recent video by Flock that highlighted his romantic garden of hardy roses in Ithaca NY. I've been planning to go up there for about 3 years - this fall I really must - just have a lot on my plate at the moment as usual. I've also been meaning to come to a meeting of the rose society that he works with... in time. Another great video!!! Best wishes Jennie
Thanks Jennie. I feel like it's a good time to be in the rose hobby (and probably the gardening hobby in general!). Social media can be awful in other ways, but it does help to bring people together in their interests - and I love how there's no barrier to entry! If you have something to say, the only limit is your own willingness to put yourself out there
Thank yous to: Paul Zimmerman for pruning roses so I understood. Brad Jalbert for container roses and over wintering in the PNW. You for everything else, especially propagating!!! Now off to see Rose Geek. Shout out to Paul Barden's website for interesting stuff including hybridizing.
Thank you Jason! It's definitely worth checking out! By the way, what leaned you into an interest in roses? Is it a hobby at first or you really have it in your genes?
Thanks Raymond. Yes, a hobby at first and I was getting a bit of a collection - then I noticed that some of my favorite rose suppliers were scaling back (and indeed, shutting down!). I thought it was a shame that so many interesting varieties were dropping out of the trade, and decided to take up producing and selling roses myself.
Love this! Lots of good information! A branch partially broke from the main plant. Is it repairable? Hormones or honey? It's limping, it's a moonlight 🌹. Thanks Jason!
Even if you could bind it together to heal, this would remain a weak spot in the rose - so I'd personally lean towards pruning it off to encourage fresh growth elsewhere on the shrub.
You bet. I did a series on the different classes of roses, and included historical information. Maybe start with this one as an overview: ruclips.net/video/1g0Dl7jap0o/видео.html
Jason, love your videos. I have seven roses growing in containers outside, here in zone 5a. I want to get them into the ground before our cold winter starts because they are more vulnerable to the cold while in containers. Should I move them now, August 25th, or wait until they begin to go dormant? Our average first frost is October 1st. Or have I missed the window and need to wait until spring?
I noticed something weird..my elderberry likes to grow in-between my red roses!! I wonder if that was the cause of the European elderberry which has red stems! ♥️‼️
I haven't given it a serious attempt, but I've seen others use it with good success (including Mark, who mentioned it in this tour: ruclips.net/video/1nRw28Km3W8/видео.html ) I'll be trying it out shortly
