- Today, we're continuing a multi-video journey on which we will be building historically accurate and authentic city designs in Manor lords, a highly anticipated city-building game! I will explain how the game works as I play and explain some historical details as we go!

Manor Lords is a strategy game that allows you to experience the life of a medieval lord. Grow your starting village into a bustling city, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest.
Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy, in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable.

The question of different historiographies between different countries is an incredibly interesting one! And one that you should always keep in mind when approaching new historical topics!
What kind of books would you recommend about this history?
@@tristanvandergulik4586 just about to ask the same question
It is always good to read a variety of source material - In addition to the points OPB made in the video, a given text will tend to focus on certain things, so reading a variety of texts will give a more complete picture.
Can I ask for what resources you've used, and how you rank them in terms of trustworthiness?
@@baronvonschnellenstein2811 I understand that but I would like a just a book where I can start.
Henry's come to see us! Jesus Christ be praised!
No, our Lord Shrek has abandoned us! All hope is lost!
My fave KCD line:
"I'm feelin' a bit 'ungry."
2 videos in one day? Christmas has come early!
Missing Shrek though
This channel kinda works like medieval ages - sometimes yields are poor and we starve, and sometimes we feast with abundance.
Today is the latter.
Alessandro Barbero, professor of medieval History at the University of Western Piedmont (Italy) and in recent years a very popular figure on the internet for his lectures had an interesting point of view about the topic of different cultures having different representations of History. Essentially the difference between History and Memory is that people remember things according to their experiences and social values and it's a very thin line to draw when recording and remembering the past. Barbero was talking about how Fascism was perceived in Italy but I think this difficulty in seeing the objective truth can relate to every historic event, especially if two cultures claim their side to be right.
2 Videos in lees then 12 hours?! People are coming to the castle Milord
placing this game in the same time period as KCD was genious. Maybe the developer had insight that KCD2 will arrive soon. It's like you have an RPG and a city builder carried by the same hype
I think it'd be really cool if you manage to claim Zweiau later on and start building a mining town there. At fist it'd probably be small and dependend on regional trade with Goldhof where they exchange their ore for food but over time its ressource wealth will likely attract more and better educated artisans who'd then process this iron themselves, growing into a more significant town while the trade first shifts to iron slabs for food and later weapons, tools and building materials for the same food from Goldhof. An awesome representation on how cities evolve and change while medieval towns can pretty much stay stagnant for centuries.
I'd just wish once you own two connecting regions in the game that they wouldn't matter anymore for the average citizen so you could have cities that grow together. Those king's road intersections in the north west (by text orientation) of Zweiau would make for an awesome trade hub but would span three or even four regions and therefore be as many separate cities. (Although I found out that only the front of the burgage plot needs to be within the region to count as being part of it, which is kinda realistic)
It being in multiple regions would though also have the benefit of you being able to place multiple castles (or manors with a fence currently) on the sides of this city for protection without having to wall it of. Idk if you're feeling this challenge, but I'd love to see it :D
Glad to see some Henry representation
Thanks for the 2 uploads in a single day.
Archers did suffer a huge nerf on the public release, but they still have some value in the militia. While their damaged to the front of the enemy is abysmal, they still inflict significant damage from behind. They are still the fastest moving units in the game too and are best for pursuing enemy archer units.
I agree with you that, currently, the baron is way OP and unbalanced. By the time you get any growth going or a military built up, he's snatched everything up and you have to work twice as hard to get any territory. I look forward to them balancing that out in future patches so you actually have a fighting chance. Love your videos! Thanks for posting another one, today, what a treat!
I haven’t tried it yet I’m still on my first run but will the Baron always challenge a claim you make or will they ever just let you have the territory?
I agree, I dont like the idea of an AI building a city (unless its done VERY well). If enemy cities are in the game, I feel like it would be more appropriate for them to be prebuilt and self sustaining. That way you dont have to worry about the AI building a horrific abomination, and you get to rise in power to challenge the already existing AI city.
Lets say each region has a prebuilt city, upon starting a game there is a possibility for one of these cities to spawn. The city will not grow, but they will rally their troops againsts you and will defend themselves if you claim their territory.
You should name the village Pribyslavitz.
Loving this playthrough with historical lesson keep it up man
Still wishing for Iserlohn as a place Name 😁 the IRON FOREST! Seeing that rich iron deposit in the neighbourhood region 😏
Re: Iser (old German) for iron/Eisen and Lohn is a Forest. With that iron deposit that just seems so fitting 😅
It actually was a quite important town in the Middle Ages for iron production situated right on the border of the Ruhrgebiet to the north and the Sauerland mountains in the south. And there even is a Suit of chainmail in the Tower of London that was imported from Iserlohn 😁
As always the bits of history you sprinkle throughout the videos are wonderful. Looking forward to tomorrow's upload.
Love the videos! One tip about getting bandit camps, although might not be entirely historically accurate, you could technically just send one guy or how many you have in a unit, take them near the bandits but not close enough to aggro them, then wait for the lord to approach getting all their attention while you sneak in thru the back and collect everything, works 100% of the time if youre careful enough heheh.
Zwei am selben Tag?!? Geil, so weiter!!!
You'll love it here! Like sleeping on a cloud it is!
Oh my god 2 videos in a row?? This is a joyous ocassion. Commenters of Goldhof rejoice!
29:17 Though one has to wonder what happened to gravity in your village, looking at those logs... 🙂
What are you talking about man, gravity was still not invented till isssc newton came
@@donut_Boi8 Oh right, my bad - couple hundred years until he invents that! Sorry :)
Where is our historically accurate Shrek? Has he been murdered? A Court intrigue he needed to flee from? We need answers.
"If you really want to learn a lot about history, then read a book"
Though I chuckled for a good five minutes at the dry delivery, I can only highlight the importance of what you are saying, especially given the current global situation.
Danke für das interessante Format und die lustigen Stunden, mach weiter so und weiterhin viel Spaß beim zocken!
Henry's come to see us! And he's feeling hungry. Jesus Christ be Praised!
I was today years old when I learned you can make the work area circle bigger lol
Trading food and timber for weapons with a city in the region indeed does sound plausible.
A peasant has no greater purpose than to die for his or her lord's merest whim.
stones are probably fast, because they neither need to be processed further nor do they get sold in market stalls. so, there is no mechanic (like full internal storage of the building or lack of workforce) slowing them down. plus the stones are all in one place, so unlike woodcutters/lumberjacks the masons don't need to walk to further away places as more and more trees disappear.
So you telling me, I don’t have to wait till tomorrow for new video… awesome
Feel quite hungry...
Beat me to it
Pretty sure archers do zero damage at the moment, haven't seen them get a single kill. They aren't completely useless though as they make good distractions. Also I think units rout quicker when they're being shot in the back.
I really enjoy your videos! One thing you might want to consider is only using single family burgage plots for production so that you don't tie up two families. I find one family each for blacksmith and armour making is more than quick enough to keep up with your population growth.
Never imagined I'd say it in any context but… I kinda miss Shrek 😅
Henry is coming to see us!
In this episode, the Villagers get stoned!!
HEY ITS OUR BOY HENRY
24:50 Problem is that the storehouse worker is picking the ore up BEFORE the bloomery worker making position of the bloomery on the outskirts useless. You can fix this by disabling the pickup of said resource in the storehouse
Ah yes, the famous Enrique
I would love to see Crossbows in this game. I was surprised, the the Dev implied Archera, because they we're Not that common in the historical context the game ist set.
Here when 5,1k within 11h also 10 between 2 videos
I thought I was seeing things when I saw this video was uploaded omgness
Love the series. Would you share some good books to read on the subject? Love the history around the foundation and evolution of medieval towns
Did ya ever find any books on the subject?
It isn't Strange that the Polish are so troubled about the German Ostsiedlung about have No Problem when Poland did later the same in the East in the Ukraine?
Good health to you
I feel quite hungry
Are you able to remove the remaining foliage after removing the trees, especially if it's on a road?
Yes, there's an option in the build menu far right tab(blanking on the name of the category right now) to remove shrubbery
Oye, lad! How's a little wager on the Rattay tourney?
Hey, OPB. Since i was the smartest of the bunch, i sent my six elder brothers to the mines and now I am in charge of running the family business. Married a hottie named ''Schneewittchen'' just as a sidenote. ⚒👩❤👨 Put me in, Coach! ^^
yooo KCD + manor lords
Yo yo yo wait a second there is more skins for you??? How do I get that skin
Hey, Henry's come to see us!
28:02 Actually cringed right here at the character running into nettles, ouchie
It’s a bit crazy that if a village doesn’t build a standing army in an era of peasant swarms then the village just doesn’t stand a chance
A militia is the exact opposite of a standing army?
The militia is made up of townsfolk.
can we get another shrek video for episode 10 of this series?
How did you change the lord model?
Check out the mod in the description!
@@OneProudBavarian thank you!
Everyone needs a hat
What button did he press to show up this UI? 23:44
Idk why the new series is getting less views, hope it doesnt discourage you too much
I don't think that archers are underpowered. Matched 1:1 against archers as a melee unit you just have to overcome the distance of the range where the archers ca shoot point blank at you and even then you have to concider that militia archers weren't all perfect marksmen. Of course you'd have to carry shields.
Basically what I'm saying is that you maybe have to survive two or three volleys that can really harm you to close in and it's not likely that you suffer many fatal hits during your approach. Correct me if I'm wrong
Where did my boi Shrek go?
Damn why are archers so bad? I’m still in my first run and just starting to build up military and I definitely made a whole archer company to rain arrows from hilltops lol
GERALT WHEN
👍
Jesus Christ be praised!
I am Polish, I am not angry at what you do because i know you are doing is not to offend me, when it comes to the textbooks though then the Polish ones needed and reafirm that everything that we got after WW2 is Polish and not preaty old German because else the writers would get propably executed for going against the state or some shit like that.
Shrek must come back
huh
You're going to lose a lot of productivity with those large vegetable plots
He'll gain a lot of vegetables though no?
You're not losing the productivity, you are putting it into the vegetable gardens, which is going to be the main food source here
meh not worth playing until they fix the very broken food system.
