Super Bowl 1 was in the 60s, who back then would’ve ever thought a young black woman would absolutely shred the guitar whilst singing “America the Beautiful” before a Super Bowl. America has its flaws, but there is beauty in that country. This performance exemplifies that beauty.

The combination of her fabulously rich voice with astounding projection and power coupled with a natural musical intuitiveness where she pauses at just the right time playing with the rhythm for maximum affect, to tear our heart out with the most staggeringly moving phrasing imaginable. This folks is what music is all about. One could go on for pages analyzing why it was such a masterpiece.
