Oh boy, I was afraid for you guys. But Eric was firm with the “donation seekers”! I love it ! I’m glad you crossed safely and are in safer territory ! Well done !! Phew!
Hi guys, the problem is that some tolls keeps rising their cost each month by 6%, and they are doing it month after month, and some "protesters" are making reference to the constitutional right from Art. 11 that Is about "right to free transit", that's why they took the tolls and the majority is just leaving pass the vehicles for free, some are asking for $20 pesos or $50 pesos, never seem one asking for $100 pesos, that's scam. I apologize for that. Hope you had a great time in my country. Next time pass by Querétaro, we have great routes.
They took the payment boots because the private company that run the freeways have an agreetment with the local people of give back a % of the money that earn and in this case the company fail with the payments or something like that :P
It is really sad, they had to stop you on the toll booth, just to sympathize to their cause. I think it's unusual. But glad you made it out safe and enjoy Mexico. Hope I can visit it one day! 🙂
Same Everywhere. Last month i'd to go to Chicago to renew a sales permit and first, a massive begger asked me for Money. Obviously he was stoned, but was quite aggressive. I'd to give him 5 bucks, he wouldn't settle for less. Next day my Partner went for a late beer and was held & robbed by two young kids at gunpoint. All in plain Madison ave. At least you guys were not separated from your Money.
Actually filming is probably what kept you safe and from being extorted by the military. Notice as soon as they realized you were filming, they let you go. I’ve been there many times and I have quite a love/hate relationship with Mexico. Over the years it’s gotten increasingly worse there. I don’t go much anymore. I’m glad you guys got out safely and with your vehicle.
What a total hassle. When will you be going back to mexico? Consider yourselves lucky. In one of your other videos, I suggested that you be out before sundown. Im glad you 2 made it out safely.
I need to put this here, bc people need to be aware of how not pay a bribe in Mexico: I have been driving to and from Mexico for more than 30 years, thru most ports of entry, from Tijuana, Mexicali, Nogales, Agua Prieta, El Paso-Cd Juarez, Cd. Acuña, the one south of Cd Acuña and Laredo, and NOT once I had trouble with the military at any check point. The local police is a different story, they have claim that I am over speeding and they ask me for 200 to 500 pesos, but I ask for a ticket instead and I usually get on my way without paying anything. I had one ticket for speeding (142 Km/hr on 80 Km/hr) given to me by Federal Police, they wouldn't ask for a bribe... and I paid a bribe of 50 MXN in Chihuahua once, 50 MXN in Obregon Sonora, 20 USD in Tijuana and 20 USD in Rosarito, I paid bribes very early in my young days when I did not know how to defend myself, back in the 80s... It's been years since I have paid anything that is not fair,... Always ask for a ticket, if you are not in a hurry, agree to go to the police station to pay for it, and most of the time they would let you go...
Some people say WOW Scary . What was scary of some Women and Men asking for a Donation .They were not violent loud or carrying any weapons .Had these people been more aggressive and seemed a little violent ,I would of paid what he was asking for to avoid any serious problems .I believe the guy said 50 pesos ,thats about $2.64 US .I don't agree that what they are doing is right ,and as a citizen of another country ,I Agree perhaps you should not support their cause one way or another .If these people are protesting towards their Government or some type of State officials and you support their cause by donating money ,you can perhaps find yourself in Trouble with Local Officials .
You missed your chance Yuka. The old man said go the long way around. Maybe more mountain bike trails. (The locals know you know !!.) Lol 😎👍👍. Next time perhaps .
Best not to Stop 🤔 best pass 👍 it's okay to Film Yuka you need lot money at check point haha bet you was pleased to go nice beach Yuka & Eric hope you Enjoy Mexico wee like watching you both 🚴🚴😉😉👍🤘🤘🤘
This is unfortunate and exactly why many people wisely avoid going to places that put you through things of this sort and possibly put you in harms way. It is a shame...it was a great trip otherwise.
Oh wow. Cool videos. Yeah, looks like many were legit protesting. The ones talking to you guys made it seem like you HAVE to pay to pass which is completely false, but they likely thought oh foreigners=$. Good for keeping firm. I would recommend just leaving your windows up and ignoring them(essentially panhandlers).
That is one of the reasons I hate driving through the Sinaloa state for the last 30 + years they be playing that card ...oh yeah we're protesting oh yeah we are in a Revolution and I just hate that I know... I'm Mexican and everything but I don't like being extorted and that's what this people do they hide behind the protesting flag... that is extortion. They take money from the people that's not right I hate it... so in order to avoid that I just drive from El Paso down to Mexico through Chihuahua that's a lot better less traffic and better roads...
@@VanGirlYuka they do it more during high seasons, like in Semana Santa, and on Christmas... Whenever they know there is gonna be more traffic, at least that's when I remember seeing it, every time I drove to Culiacan.
After watching your videos, I would never go to mexico for this scams everywhere,I hate that. actually Im wondering why did you go to such dangerous country
To avoid war there is always diplomacy, Mexico is land without law They were just lucky. never deny the hand to the one who extends it, never throw your vehicle over whoever asks you to stop or are prepared for worse consequences several times you put the integrity of your wife and yours at risk. Did you ask for cooperation of $ 50.00 pesos ($ 2.50 US Dlls) seriously for pennies that attitude? think about it ! Those collection booths are set up by the government, imagine the impunity and corruption so that they are neglected and in the hands of individuals (currently by cartel people and the cooperation is not voluntary) You would have given them their "donation" and a couple of waters, a soda and a "goodbye, friend." The good intentions of their trip could easily have turned you into your worst nightmare or ever going back to the US. The more or less safe way to travel to Mexico is by flying. to the target. I am Mexican No I recommend traveling by road. Greetings your channel is very good
Man that’s a dangerous position to be in. 100 pesos is not much and it might well have been worth it to pass thru without worry. I realize it’s the principle but that is Mexico. You take the good and the bad. If that’s a problem, one shouldn’t travel there. Just my two cents. The Mexican people are mostly good people trying to do good things. They don’t have the same luxuries the Americans enjoy, so their way of doing things is different.
0:35 this is very rude for Mexicans and this people tell you " Is a donation ( is implicit the optional)...you want to help us?.." you have the option to not give the money but next time be more friendly, belive me, you don't want to face a bunch of angry Mexican villagers.
Idk...you had plenty of time to inform yourselves about the causes for these road blocks. Some are actually worth a donation (Teachers Union, a.o.). To me it looks kind of ignorant...
I mean when the protesters can’t even properly explain their cause it seems like extortion to me. Especially since they were being so forceful “asking” for donations.
Oh boy, I was afraid for you guys. But Eric was firm with the “donation seekers”! I love it ! I’m glad you crossed safely and are in safer territory ! Well done !! Phew!
We are safe now! Thank you Shanti

Great edit Yuka. Enjoyed the storytelling. Can see the creativity and thoughtfulness.

Great coverage of driving through the panhandlers, shakedowns, and inspections.
Don't try to film military people! I was a idiot!

"Protest" looks more like low pressure extortion...sheesh..
That's exactly how I felt. I've read stories of people getting assaulted in these situations.
They took the payment boots because the private company that run the freeways have an agreetment with the local people of give back a % of the money that earn and in this case the company fail with the payments or something like that :P
It is extortion
It kinda is. their motives are genuine but their methods have gone out of the board and they often end up related to organized crime
@@BCpov you looked like the coffin dancer in the thumbnail🤭
