For me, a quintisential 80's song. One of those that defines the sound of the decade. A song the band wasn't even thrilled about before and after recording it (wasn't written by them); turned out to be their biggest hit. But they have so many other great ones.
I totally agree with you Michael, I have said the same thing about this song before. Then I hear about 100 other songs and think the same thing 🤣. This one has to be at the top though, lol!
Depends on the platform. Discord seems more amenable to outright communication, if you look hard enough for the right server. There are a few servers where I have friends, friends I can be myself to.
Wow bringing me back to my High School days, such a great time to grow up back then. I really believe that we were blessed to have experienced those times.
The quintessential high school experience of the 80's generation. The jocks, the cheerleaders, the geeks, the wierdos, and the stoners! We really did travel in those packs with some overlap, but not that much. We listened to the same music, but we lived vastly different experiences. One of my favorite 80's teen angst films is "The Last American Virgin" The soundtrack is even better than "The Breakfast Club" and the ending of the movie is absolutely soul crushing, especially if you're a male. One of the few movies that comes down to the last two minutes of the film and leaves you stunned!
The song kind of became an anthem for us teens in the 80s along with the movie which we all can relate to in a lot of ways which makes it such a classic.
Sad but true. “Simple Minds” never liked this song, and stated they never understood the song. They did it due to their agent and the record company. It was a HUGE hit. It was intended for Billy Idol, but he didn’t like it either. He grew to love it and performs it live. He regrets turning it down in the first place.
Cool one. I love 80's movies, something that's more real about them. Love that movie and like St Elmos Fire from the 80s. My fave from that one is St Elmo's Love Theme. Its such a perfect composition. The music arrangement gives such a vibe, so beautiful.
A classic! Soundtrack to my young teenage years! Everyone had a crush on Molly Ringwald. She was in another classic film called "Pretty in Pink" which included a sublime song by the same name..
An absolute must listen is a version of an old classic sung by Eva Cassidy, "Somewhere over the rainbow". Eva's version of this is widely regarded as the greatest & most beautiful ever recorded. Its guaranteed that you will need tissues when you listen to this. RIP Eva your voice will be making the angels cry.
I love this song just becasue it's the iconic song of this movie, which is one of my favorite movies. It takes me back, not just becasue I was in high school when this came out myself. These brat pack actors are still a little older than me though, thank god.
Boy Meets Girl - Waiting for a star to fall. Steve Winwood - Roll with it. Valerie. Higher Love. John Parr - St. Elmo's Fire. Michael McDonald - Sweet Freedom. Level 42 - Something About You. Anastacia - I'm Outta Love. Paid My Dues. Alannah Myles - Black Velvet. Santana - Into The Night. Smooth. Maria Maria. Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink, Lil' Kim - Lady Marmalade. Christina Aguilera - Fighter. Ain't No Other Man. Patti Labelle - New Attitude. Glen Frey - The Heat Is On. Junior - Do You Really Want My love. Philip Bailey & Phil Collins - Easy Lover. Dan Hartman - I Can Dream About You. Morris Day And The Time - Jungle Love. Johnny Hates Jazz - Shattered Dreams. Heart - Alone. Giant - I'm a Believer. DeBarge - Rhythm Of the Night. Irene Cara - Fame.
The former school building (the former Maine North High School) is about fifteen minutes from where I live. It's now owned by the State of Illinois. Various State agencies have offices there. I've taken more than a few friends there to pose for pictures at the entrance.
No iphones...no facebook...no RUclips..no social media....just friendship between friends and above all talking and sharing...sadly that is not seen today! Long live the 80s! Great reaction video!!
If you haven't seen the movie it should be on your list of movies to watch. Such a great cast and they all brought their A-game for this movie. This has to be one of the best closing songs for a movie of all times.
Another teen / college flick that came out maybe a year later withl half the people from this movie in it and from Pretty in Pink this movie 16 candle is the movie St Elmo's fire with the soundtrack, St Elmo's Fire and it has a few '80s hits on the sound track,
Another great John Hughes movie. Man, did he have the winning formula for making great movies. It was all about the characters, characters, characters. Those underdog characters we all recognize that you fell in love with and cheered for. Having a great soundtrack always helped, but then you couldn't have a bad soundtrack in the 80's.... just too many great tracks to choose from! ( is it coming across i'm a 80's teen child? lol )
Written by Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff. Produced by Keith Forsey. The movie director the late John Hughes was a fan of rock music. Billy Idol recorded his version but Hughes rejected it! 😖 In the 2000s, Billy Idol released his version. Producer Keith Forsey offered the sing to Bryan Ferry, Corey Hart and Cy Curnin but all of them rejected it. Simple Minds was offered the song. At first, they rejected it. Pretenders lead singer Christie Hyde, then wife of Jim Kerr, heard it and convinced him to reconsider. He put conditions: Simple Minds want to rearrange the song and add la la la la at the ending. Producer Keith Forsey agreed! 😃 At that time, Simple Minds members were frustrated 😞 because their songs that were hits in Europe 🇪🇺 were not hits in the USA 🇺🇸. After the recording, members of Simple Minds thought this would be a hit! 🙄 They were correct! ✅ The live anniversary version where leading actress Molly Ringwald introduced the sing and joined Taylor Swift in the audience is fun and nostalgic. 😃 Suggested song: Simple Minds performs Waterfront 💧
This song topped the charts in 85. Great music video and movie soundtrack. It definitely had a big impact on my life. Absolutely love it! And love your reaction to it!
Michael T Scott - You are spot on with that. Angela - This is one of the songs that defined the 80's. Along with some others. I can't even tell you how many times I had to play this song. With pleasure. The drumming in this song is fantastic.
This is the full version of the song used in part in the first Pitch Perfect film. It’s played over the opening & closing credits, Jesse copies Judd Nelson when he raises his fist when Beca includes a short bit of the song in their final performance.
Angela, you're obviously going to do "Danger Zone" from Top Gun. You should consider doing a double shot with that one. The love theme from that movie is a guitar instrumental by the great Steve Stevens (Billy Idol's cohort) it's not long, just an guitar piece .. but really nice.
Hi from the UK Angela, Simple Minds were massive in the 80's, check out Alive and Kicking, All The Things She Said, Waterfront, or Promised You A Miracle, enjoy your reactions 😀
Definitely an 80’s staple song AND movie! Angela, if you haven’t seen the Breakfast Club movie, it’s a must! An 80’s cult classic- I believe you’ll really like it a lot-💜
I remember that song.. I am much older now but if I remember correctly I wrote that song and they used it without my permission... I could be mistaken 😂😜😜
Keith Forsey wrote it for the movie. Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol passed on it. Later on, Idol did a version of it on his "Greatest " hits album. What a punk ass loser. Simple Minds loved doing the song and were grateful for the opportunity. They loved the success of it. Damn good jam.
I decided to send a beautiful song that will make you melt its barry white you turned my whole world around to your heart ❤from my heart I love your personality
Another one would be : Weird Science soundtrack - Blues Brothers movie soundtrack. Most of anything from The Blues Brothers soundtrack you may want on your phone 😉🎸
You may want to watch the movie too. I think the song is more meaningful. As mentioned below, this movie and St. Elmo's Fire are good movies and some of the same actors/actresses are in both.
Love this film it inspired me to go out and get the simple minds album live in the city of light and also to try and dress like judd nelson in the film which I realised years later does not necessarily suit a much shorter man, but at the time it made me happy. Great reaction! Best teen film ever!
This is a film about suburban high school in the 80's. There were the stereotypical icon of each major group in the school (the jock, the princess, the druggie, the brain/nerd, and the basket-case). Throwing them all together for a day in detention and telling them to shut up encourages them to do the opposite and actually talk with one another, which allows them to communicate with each other and really see each other for the first time. At the time of it's release it was rather controversial as some of the topics the students discuss are very serious, but Generation X loved it as it showed how we were learning how to deal with those very topic on our own as our teachers and parents really couldn't be there for us. We were the first generation ever expected to have a standard of living lower than our parents - nobody expected the Great Depression. We knew what was coming and we'd been told since we were in Elementary School that Social Security would be an expense our whole life and we'd likely never see a dime coming back to us. Both of our parents were off working for hours after school was out, and the single-parent household was becoming more common. We had to learn to take care of ourselves and we did. There are more entrepreneurs and business owners in Generation X than any other.
having an epic song, then putting it together with an epic movie is like catching lighting in a bottle, and thats what happened with the Breakfast Club.
Who would have thought an hour and a half of watching 5 kids in saturday detention would be so good! One of my lifetime favorite films and songs.
For me, a quintisential 80's song. One of those that defines the sound of the decade. A song the band wasn't even thrilled about before and after recording it (wasn't written by them); turned out to be their biggest hit. But they have so many other great ones.
Promised You A Miracle, Sanctify Yourself, Alive And Kicking, All The Things She Said

was it written by them,i heard it was written for billy idol to perform but he turned it down.
@@brucevaudrien3373
You heard right, and no, they didn’t write it.
@@brucevaudrien3373 Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff wrote it, Forsey was also involved in writing the Glenn Frey track The heat is on.
To me, this song defines the 80's - one of the greatest songs of that decade.
Perfect movie.
Impossible to not identify with one of them in your teenage years.
Yessss
Was a great movie showing how people of different situations can become friends wish it was more like that today.
today they would sit calme in their chairs talking to their phones and watchin tik tok videos

Wow bringing me back to my High School days, such a great time to grow up back then. I really believe that we were blessed to have experienced those times.
Absolutely!
This is a movie everyone should watch as a teen. Should be mandatory.

a natural reaction, dance, dance, dance... greatings from the 80´s
Wow, brings back so many memories! I really miss those simpler times before all of the technology that we have today.
Every generation has their time and place song ... this is Gen X's time and place.
Sad but true. “Simple Minds” never liked this song, and stated they never understood the song. They did it due to their agent and the record company. It was a HUGE hit. This, along with Back to the Future, are MUST SEE 80's movies.
Classic British 80's song..you must listen to more Simple minds they're epic !!
Another 80s film classic, "Oh Yeah" by Yello from Ferris Buellers Day Off.
Could be the most played video in MTV history. Song was HUGE.
One of the greatest movies ever.
'Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling'! Glaswegian bands always mention rain. It never stops there.
Cool one. I love 80's movies, something that's more real about them. Love that movie and like St Elmos Fire from the 80s. My fave from that one is St Elmo's Love Theme. Its such a perfect composition. The music arrangement gives such a vibe, so beautiful.
Such a great song, and the drumming is spot on, and of course, famously played at the end breakfast club
These songs you really should watch the movie it will give you a deeper admiration of the music!
A classic! Soundtrack to my young teenage years! Everyone had a crush on Molly Ringwald. She was in another classic film called "Pretty in Pink" which included a sublime song by the same name..
Ditto on the Molly remark : )
And Ally Sheedy!! She was a lot of guys’ fantasy girlfriend, too!! 🔥🔥🔥

There wasn’t a better song to dance to at that time…, man …, women loved it!
Classic 80s sound
Great song. If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend it!

Not sure if that was the official video but if not, they did a really good job putting it together like that.
THE best 80's song!! Hands down
I think my fav movie...I was 15 when this came out.
Michael T Scott - You are spot on with that. Angela - This is one of the songs that defined the 80's. Along with some others. I can't even tell you how many times I had to play this song. With pleasure. The drumming in this song is fantastic.

The Brits have made some amazing music. You gotta hand it to them.
Another great 80's song that defines the 80's is I'll Stop The World And Melt With You (think that's right).
Breakfast club is a awesome and great movie and this song just fits this movie

This song reminds me of brilliant 1980s creativity. What a materpiece!
Thanks Angela
That weird "Saturday school" detention... Had to go once for fighting... I probably didn't win
I think the reason for so many folks "love it" is because they love the movie and when listening the movie comes back to our minds.

Song really goes hand in hand with the movie!
I never get tired of this song.
A classic that will never die
Get it, Angela ! 🙃
Please react to Live to Tell by Madonna, featured in the movie At Close Range. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
I love this song!
