Finally someone that explained the relay wiring and demonstrated how to do it no more burning up wires on my J10 Jeep truck thanks a lot man.... live long and prosper ! !
Iv been trawling through videos for a couple of hrs and this is how it should be shown well done man highly impressed forget the rest of them back and forth all over the place and ud be still confused thanks
Thanks Rocky! all the videos I viewed just show a diagram where the wires go. I love the hands on actual wiring of the relays. Great video. Thanks again and cheers from Motown!
Thank you for that demo, thank goodness there are folk like you who are willing to take the time to show people like me how something is done. Much obliged. Barry
Best how to wire relay I've found. Thank you. The led drl's I installed on my 2007 Toyota Tundra caused me problems after 5 years. They came with a harness and tapped into the acc and headlight + so they would come on when the truck was started. I've decided to wire them to a switch in the cab so I can turn them on and off as I choose. I have to figure out which wires are which coming off of the harness. That shouldn't be too difficult. I already have the switch. Just need to get the relay and in line fuse. Thank you. I look forward to future how to videos.
I'm glad you found the video useful, thanks for watching and I wish you luck with your install! Keep in mind that some Toyota's use a "positive ground" setup for their lights. This meaning they don't use the positive wire on the switch, they use the ground on the switch and the power is on all the time. Some quick probing around with a multi-meter will tell you if yours is wired like this.
Very nicely done! You are a fine instructor. You made things that seem very difficult to understand much easier to comprehend. Also used camera angles and close-ups at just the right time. Kudos.
Thank you very much ive seen like 5 previous videos and just didnt get how it works and you made it simple and very easy to understand people couldn't do it simple as this thanks.
Superb instructional. I had been looking for a video on how to marry a pushbutton light with a relay. the other videos watched were super confusing, You made it quite simple and understandable by not assuming knowledge on behalf of your audience. Thanks so much sir
Great little vid on a common subject that I needed to know and the first one that has the little side window showing the pin-out and the numbers associated with each wire, good job!
@@RockyXTV I am building a system for a guy. It's a surround sound system to be used outdoors at a drive in theater. He only wanted one switch, and the switch was rated at only 5A. I knew it would not be enough, especially since I am installing a huge 2.1 amp, and a voltage booster, that will power the amp at 48 volts. I used a 12 volt, 40 A relay. Your video was perfect. If you get a chance, check out my channel. I will definitely be watching more of your videos.
Holy shit. I feel like I can wire anything with this info. I installed fog lights, HID lights, HALO lights, and even switched out my manual windows to power windows. I wired that up with this info. Never expected to add so many accessories. I need to make a relay box to make it look nice. Wires are everywhere.
Hooked up a set of l.e.d. running lights to my harley road glide. After a near nuclear explosion and going crazy I found your video. Thanks to you I have nice set of fork mounted lights that look good and no melted wires or blown fuses or hot as F##$ resisters.
A big thank you from England. My fuse in the engine compartment kept blowing. I followed your video on the relay and rewired my relay the correct way round...problem solved, thanks again.
That was honestly the best explanation on how to hook up a relay and what the terminals are used for great work I am now subscribe to your Channel and just to let you know I watched over 20 relay videos
@@RockyXTV I wired my 4 pin relay to with the add-a-circuit adapter... my fog lights now work as DRL with my key ignition and engine 'ON' and switches 'OFF' when the key or engine is off... Thanks for the simplicity you used in communicating the concept - I owe my new skill to you! Cheers!
thank you les chat and to the point great thank you.the other ones I seen talked about everything and about nothing ,you were right to the point and made easy again thank you.
Great vid, fab explanation. Wondering why not just use a 4 pin relay for that application. Leaving it blank just leaves a “hot” terminal that could potentially short out.
@@strokertwo1 If running multiple things off of a single relay just be sure you don't go over 30 Amps. You really only need one fuse on the line going from Pin 30 to your battery. As for fuse size, that can be calculated pretty easily using this simple formula. Watts divided by Volts equals Amps. Example; you have 3 lights that are 55 Watts each, 55 X 3 = 165. 165W/12.5V=13.2A. In this example you would want to run a 15A fuse. I hope this info helps you out and thanks for watching!
With the help of this video I was able to wire three lights to two relays and one rocker switch. The lights came with a harness that was wired incorrectly.
Wonderfully explained. Very thorough, yet simple. Question though: why do you believe it’s necessary to wire the relay directly to the battery? I understand the need for a constant source, but an in-line fuse wired directly to the battery - all for a simple accessory? Why not just tap into the fuse box or another constant source? Just seems like a bit of overkill. Great tutorial nonetheless.
This is the exact video I needed for my install. My accessory is a set of air horns, which is the only difference (to your LED). I do have questions though. My air horn set includes 2 compressors and 2 relays.Q1. Can 1 relay feed both compressors?Q2. If I need to install both relays can I run 1 power wire and 1 ground wire then split them to feed each compressor?
Depending on how much current your compressors are pulling you may be able to use a single relay, it needs to be less than 30 Amps for both compressors combined. If it's more then unfortunately you are stuck using two, or you can use a big HD relay like the one from another video of mine - ruclips.net/video/u-GXqTpICNM/видео.html For your second question, yes. Just be sure to use a heavy gauge wire. Thanks for watching!
3 years later and it is still the best video i have found so far!
I agree
I’ve watched 3 videos and NONE OF THEM MADE SENSE.
This is how you do it, thanks for the vid man!
Much appreciated!
Thank you very much!
Yes, FINALLY a video that EXPLAINS a relay and where everything goes! Only one on RUclips I'm pretty sure. 🤣

I've seen quite a few of those videos. Informative but hard to follow at the same time.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
As simple as this video is, it should be the only one to populate when “how to run a simple relay” is searched. OUTSTANDING job.
This is the first time I could understand how to connect wires using a relay. Thank you bro.
Thank you for watching!
You were best one on youtube. Knowing the numbers and what they do is really useful. Others go to fast.
