  • The sci-fi classic Planet of the Apes is now a TTRPG! In this quickstart adventure the players have been sent on a deadly expedition, ape-killing humans are terrorizing the area and must be stopped!
The RPG is led by UKGE and ENNIE award winning writer Andrew E.C. Gaska (Alien RPG, Terminator RPG) and published by Magnetic Press Play, an imprint of the acclaimed publisher Magnetic Press. We cannot recommend either highly enough, Magnetic Press Play also published Carbon Grey (a favourite of ours) and we have loved all of Andrew's games (and other projects!)
Andrew has a long resume of awesome nerd projects ranging from 5e, Space 1999, Buck Rogers, Planet of the Apes novels, Alien RPG, Terminator RPG as well as work for 20th Century Fox and more.
This quickstart adventure is an excellent introduction to the game which uses the D6MV system (the Magnetic variant of the classic West End Games D6 system) and we definitely recommend checking out the Kickstarter if you're a fan of PotA or any of the other works of Andrew E.C. Gaska or Magnetic Press!

Will there be a continuation/next chapter of this, or is this just an intro and this is all we get
Really fun and creative play through! I’m a backer on KS and can’t wait for the fulfillment! Great lore and a fascinating world

Not sure yet. Emily backed the Kickstarter as well so we are getting some of the material. However having said that it is not off the table at all. More a case as we do very little 5e stuff (Lost Druid was a gift so we have been doing that.) which means we have a lot of games in our schedule to get to or edit. We have more Tales from the Loop, Blade Runner, The One Ring, Broken Tales, The Terminator and others coming. We did discuss the possibility of doing the Starter Box for Planet of the Apes which is a full mini-campaign. So we have definitely had discussions about that.

This was so much fun... Always a joy to watch or listen to Kritfayle - also super nice that most of it isn't D&D. Such a great look at different games (I usually listen to their stuff on Spotify).

Variety is the spice of dice so they say ;)

At some point it would be useful to use character skills to convince another character of an action... instead of having players just argue back and forth "I'm going to do this" "no you're not" "yes i am" "over my dead body" "it's still going to happen" "no it won't". Bah. Too much lame arguing without any teeth to it. Using skills could be a better way to settle that in-game argument.

Maybe it went a little long and if it was scripted rather than improv sure it would have had a bit more bite. But that's part and parcel of RPG's. As a group we rarely use mechanics to settle character to character stuff. If they are RP'ing and having fun then that is what its about for us. Different strokes for different folks.

@@Kritfayle In that situation, the ape in charge (which would have been the senior male warrior or religious leader) would have ultimately taken charge, and backed it up with force if needed. It would not devolve into two unmovable characters. One would bow to the other, particularly in terms of apes. Or there would be combat to prove who is in charge.
In our modern world, sometimes people just don't want to negotiate or back down, especially when there is no real threat of force. That's why I mentioned using mechanics to help move things along if they refuse to fall back into the hierarchy within which they are playing. Either that or they need to come up with good arguments to convince each other, or failing that they end up with in-game combat. I prefer avoiding the latter, as team combat within the game can completely destroy a game.
Anyway, this is really a minor comment on the last few minutes of the show. Overall this was a very enjoyable game.

@@theforgedone We appreciate your feedback and taking the time with our playthrough. We are still learning the setting for Planet of the Apes as it has a surprising amount of moving parts to each area of it.
