Yeah, a problem with many of these map animations is that often you don't get info about what's happening, they don't show the cities, I've even seem map animations without the dates.... so you just end up watching blue and red gaining and losing grounds in some place
Yeah dude this is very informative, the other videos mostly look like someone playing Agar.io. Definitely entertaining but I was always left with tons of questions.
I haven't even finished watching yet and I already love this video and this style. I know using no gains colour usually gets a lot of criticism from the community but I personally think gain colours can sometimes be confusing and annoying. I think the labels are a great addition and I think they really make these few but extremely well produced and researched frames feel like far more. Great video, keep it up. Edit: Just finished watching. Amazing work Yan!
Exceedingly well made video, I really like the addition of the labels - helps contextualize events for someone only vaguely familiar with China/Chinese history (i.e me)
i just want to say i really appreciate your videos. they have done much to help me contextualize these events in a place im geographically unfamiliar with, while being also in my language. thank you for the work you do
If you don't mind, can you make a video about Drug King, Khun Sa, the Lord of the Golden Triangle? I studied Myanmar history in recent, and found kind of awesome. Khun Sa was a warlord in Shan states, Myanmar. And due to his massive opium smuggling operations in the Golden Triangle, where he was the dominant opium warlord from approximately 1976-1996. No one else made map, just yet. If you make this into a real video it would be real cool.
Imagined how hard it is to make one video in this channel make, many detailed and effort as been put into the video. Instead of effortlessly use a random colour consuming each other

Hello, recently I've been watching some of your latest videos, specifically those regarding Tibet and Sichuan. You do seem to have some knowledge regarding Chinese history, or at least you know how to navigate through it, and I'm wondering if you could help me with a bit of an issue I've been facing regarding the Qing and the Republic of China's border disputes, a piece of history which particularly caught my eyes lately. I've already successfully researched about the ones over the Burma-Yunnan boundary, both the undemarcated area in the north, interested by the Pianma Expedition of the British, and the one in the south, with some rich silver mines, that interested governor Long Yun. I'm mainly interested in the dispute over the Pamir region, on the modern Sino-Tajik border. Specifically I'm looking for sources which would help me identify who effectively controlled the region prior to 1895 and also the full extent of the Chinese claim. Besides that, I'm also interested in sources which would help me identify when the British effectively moved into modern Arunchal Pradesh after the McMahon lines. I hope you could redirect me to sources that would help me understand the matter regarding these two issues.
Hello, I'm curious about your fantastic work in showing boundaries of the relatively independent kingdoms(tusi), since I didn't find them in neither in CHGIS nor in the contemporary administrative divisions. Would you mind informing me of the source? I'll be grateful for that.
Can you make a entire HISTORY OF CHINA: EVERY YEAR. You are the most qualified youtuber for this. I mean mith every, even the smallest, revolt, the historic provinces, large cities, emperors, chancelors, the historic accurate coastlines and rivers ect. like super detailed like your videos mostly are. Could it be called a Revolution if it wasn't successful? Wouldn't it be called a rebellion since it was defeated? Also sorry for not saying so imediatly; but really good job on this one! The educational style in my opinion is far better for the mapping community than the more animated style. I actually learned a good deal about the Second Revolution in this video; something other versions couldn't offer.
Well, it was intended to be a repeat of the success of the 1911 Xinhai Revolution, so it's usually called the Second Revolution. I suppose you're correct, though.
@Sugarz the Russian Revolution of 1905, counts as a revolution because things did change; It worked. The czar ending the reforms after a few years would be a counter-revolution. But either way; even if a revolution only works short term its still a revolution. If a 'revolution' doesn't work period' then its a rebellion.
America, Europe and Japan: Not our fault, all internal crisis Also them: China, gib all your lands andf resources of you to us! If you collapse, is even better for us
His plan to install himself as Emperor triggered a rebellion from Yunnan and Guizhou, which had not been suppressed in 1913, which were soon joined by Guangxi, Guangdong, Hunan, Shaanxi, and Sichuan. Yuan Shikai was unable to defeat them and faced possible revolt from his generals, so he was forced to restore the republic. However, even upon his death, Yuan Shikai still ruled most of China. But because he had not had enough time to create a centralised national government and administration, when he died the centralised China he had worked to build fell apart, beginning the warlord era.
You can notice the South still not completely pacified. Most of these men were neither kuomintang aligned, nor wanted a monarchy back. That's why they rebelled during 1916. Then after Yuan's inability to supress this revolt, some of his own generals, 8 I believe, sent him a letter telling him to resign. Then he died a few months later, probably from the stress.
I actually learned instead of mindlessly staring at various colours on a map

How the hell did Yuan Shikai manage to lose control after all this?
For one he fell over dead shortly after
He never lost control; instead, there was no one after he died in 1916 who could keep control like him.
