Happy Friday everyone!!! Let's go junkin' in Texas together! Here are the non-sponsored links I mention: Get my favorite flea market shopping bag: HULKEN BAG: bit.ly/YTHulken (affiliate link) Our Texas Ranch Airbnb: 88888ranch.com Canton Flea Market: www.firstmondaycanton.com What are ya'll finding out thrifting this week??
I found a West Germany pottery vase for 5 euros, a fun pottery jar with ‘Afternoon delights’ inscribed on it and a couple possibly very valuable Harry Potter books for 2 euros each. Going back tomorrow.
Glad you enjoy 1st Monday Trades Day in Canton, TX. I live about 10 miles from the grounds and go almost every month except for the hottest months like July, August and September and we always start in the same open area by the Civic Center like you did. It is my husband's and myself favorite part of the flea market.
Love a slightly tipsy Laura.... Thanks for all the tips that were flowing...you're epic :) And Nancy as a substitute banter partner for when Jesse can't join you is fun too. Cant wait for the next Laura and Nancy in Canton instalment :)
We were stationed in Germany from 72 to 96. I loved shopping the flea markets. I started as a teenager. It was so much fun. I have so many collections. Then later I took those bus tours of factories and have those collections. Now when we go shopping I love collecting European things. I also got a lot of old things from my grandmothers house and just shipped some of my mothers things to the states. My house is full. Lol.
PS I do like the color of the planter, and the abstract splatter...I like it as a neutral with a lot of heart and soul! Sometimes when something is out of your comfort zone, it seems weird until you try it out with other things that you are already used to. I call it EYE-STRETCHING, when I am taking in a new design or color combo or some off-beat proportional combo. The waterfall willow droopy curves are so fun on the bracket part! Whoever designed that and put it together had it going on, it is lucky that the pieces stayed together and un-altered
love your term "eye-stretching". I've bought a few items that you could call "eye stretching", brought it home, lived with it for awhile (put it in my home and just "lived with it"), and found that over time, I really grew to like it. I find it exciting that I can "grow my taste" in the fact that even at my age, I can learn to like something different than my "status quo".
A fantastic video. Ya'll make great pickin' partners. Fantastic finds. You mentioned "heat lightening," there actually is no such thing. The lightening is from a far away storm that you cannot hear the thunder from. I'm a southern gal who grew up with the term, and didn't learn differently until more recent years. I used to sleep with my Grandmommie when we visited. She always had the window and curtains open in the summer. I used to lay there in bed watching what was referred to as "heat lightening" off in the distance until I dozed off. A sweet memory feeling secure and peaceful.
There are many types of lightning, and when googled you can find "heat lightning" also known as silent lightning. Lightning w/o visible clouds is referred to as heat lightning.
❤Thanks for taking us shopping! LOVE THE JENNY LIND SPINDLE BED! I grew up with the twin bed version, I used to lie in bed and turn-twist the the spindles, ever so gently, making them squeak, just to hear them. Hello to Nancy! Nancy, you are an all-in trouper! Thank you for your contribution and committment to bringing it all to the rest of us!
For the planter, I would take an old pair of black leggings, put the planter in a leg to find the best fitting spot, and cut to fit with room to tuck over the planter edge. Then I'd line the inside with plastic and plant it up. This way, you get the look you want, and don't alter the original piece. Great finds all around in this video!
Your video brought back some wonderful memories of going to Taxco and First Monday with my mom many years ago. We traveled a lot. We even drove a F-150 with stick shift from Mississippi to Alaska and back one summer. We never had reservations or schedules to keep. We camped mostly. I’m so grateful I got to have those experiences with her.
@@leftcoastrevivals I think it may be European. I have seen some compact bracelets, where the bakelite is actually a hinged compartment that can open up for perfume or makeup.
I would go to Canton in the late 70s when it was very small with our children and we parked at school bus that we turned into a camper across the street from the main entrance and it only took one day to go see all of it loved it
I just love to "go" picking with you! Your enthusiasm is contagious. Did you and Nancy meet when she came on one of your trip? A compatible travel friend is such a treat!
We sure did! We met on the Italy trip and we’ve now vintage shopped in Italy, London, Norway, Japan and Texas together 😆 We were actually kinda email pen pals a little bit over the years before we met too. ❤️
Someone probably already said in the vast comments, but the Bill & Lou Zuni earrings are by Bill & Lou Laweka. I had the exact same pair of clip-ons in coral. Congratulations! And fun trip with Nancy!
Hi 😂 happy to see you in Canton, TX. I live 2 hours from there. If I thought we could meet up, I would drive there just to see you.....I love to watch your videos.....shout out to Beverly and Carolyn in Texas......
I'm originally from Duluth, so the Fitgers bottle opener was a fun walk down memory lane. The Fitgers bottling plant was repurposed as a great boutique shopping "mall" with many unique shops when I was last in Duluth about 15 yrs (or more) ago. 😂
I think that sterling pendant was the Bear Kachina. I'm not sure, just learning about Kachinas, but it was an intriguingly storybook version, more Western fairy tale-ish I mean, not the more traditional Hopi rendering. Really such an interesting object! I think my favorite thing you found though was the green turquoise ring. SO beautiful. I'm much more partial to green turquoise than bright blue.
I love first Monday! I have so many childhood memories of going there. My grandparents lived in a town pretty much right next to it. Haven’t been in a long time but really want to go back now.
15:15 I have that DeGrazia sun catcher ! I have quite a few of them actually. My former mother-in-law was a huge DeGrazia collector & I was blessed to be given part of her collection when she passed. ❤
My husband and I shopped Canton back in the day (1978)!! When we were young married college kids, looking for cheap, but substantial furniture. As I write this, I'm looking at an old trunk we refinished and have used as our coffee table ever since! Haven't been to Canton since that one and only year (78-79) we lived in TX, but I hear it's not the same "field" (no buildings) of very cheap antiques it once was.
You have such great adventures! Thank you for taking us all with you to Canton Flea Market. Loved that spool bed you saw, agree that price was fantastic. I am from East Coast, New England area (NH) so of course I love spooled beds. Great jewelry, I liked that elongated all sterling ring and of course the Italian gild and silver bracelet. Hope I see day 2!!!
Oh, additionally, I know you wouldn’t change the wall planter, but I loved the idea of the black matte paint. The current glaze is busy and takes away from the cool brass!
What a fantastic market. It's huge! I would be so overwhelmed. Loved your haul, beautiful jewellery. Looks like you and Nancy had so much fun. Hope you saved some of that LC energy for day 2. Can't wait to see part 2.❤
Oh Fun! Welcome to Texas Yall! I don't know if you flew in to DFW or Love Field airport buy I hope you get to hit up some shops in the Dallas area. The Goidwill in the early a.m., Re-Stores mid- morning then on to a few charity shops after lunch are great here! I wish you both happy shopping!
You and Nancy are darling, and I am looking at thrift shops and flea markets in a whole new way now. Thanks for sharing all the cool fun things you purchased at Canon! May have to take a trip there in the future :)
I just can’t begin ☺️ What a wonderful place, what wonderful finds, such beautiful, fancy pretties❤ I’m definitely in love and to think I had no idea Canton, Texas existed. That’s why I follow you 🥰
Super! Will be watching for listings and anxious for 1st Friday, although of course I'd like the ring you're keeping. We share the same eye for jewelry. Still wearing my little Turquoise/beaded Fish pinky ring that "doesn't impede the knuckle!" Glad you had fun in Canton. Cat
No place better than Canton TX. The so-called 'stamp' at 6:49 reminds me of a meat tenderizer. Wish I'd known you were coming to TX - would have come to meet you. You got some gorgeous jewelry!
I actually train (walk 2 mi per day) year around so that I can keep going. I'll be 77 in July. It's been 4 yrs because of the plague. Can't wait to get back.
Last week when I commented on a stormy night in Texas and you said you were in Canton.....I hoped that you would find a nice place to stay and plenty of turquoise and silver....... and it looks like you did both!!......oh and you also met a Rhonda which is also my name!....lol
I went to the Canton flea market many years ago and bought a Bichon puppy. I wasn’t into shopping back then but I wish I could go back now and go junking!
My husband set up a booth there last month. We expanded it for this next market, and I will have some fun stuff in the second booth. My husband sells pottery, and I will be selling old treasures and some fabric in my booth. It's always fun to watch your videos. Thanks Bekka ThePottersWife
Funny you brought up storage units. I've been binge watching a few buyers and it's so interesting and tempting. 💥❗Love the video. You held up a silver and brass cuff that I had on hold on Ebay .. so of course I went back a bought it 😆
It’s so funny. I am watching this and I’ve been to all these locations but I’m like oh that store is still there. Oh that store is still there. I’m so happy to watch this and enjoy your purchases vicariously.
I love my hulken bag too!! It holds so much stuff for band or girl scouts!! So many people ask where it's from.. gotta love a good bag that's hold a lot of stuff!!
Love your education on jewelry, always learn so much. Have never seen petit point turquoise rings or earrings. The burros were adorable, especially the spotted ones. Oh and the lighting going sides ways. My mother called it blanket or cloud to cloud.
WOW you found a lot of fabulous things. I almost had a chance to go to Tasco when I was visiting a friend in Acapulco Mexico but something happened and we didn’t go to this day I am bummed out. I love southwest jewelry . Looking forward to your next video
Oh my gosh! Such beautiful jewelry & other goodies! Love me some Canton shopping but I haven’t been for a long time. I like going w/ you, I can take the heat & humidity easier!! (btw-I live in Houston, so Canton weather is nothing to us 🥴) I was thinking, that long strand of semi precious stones, they remind me of what we called “twist beads” in the 80’s. We’d take two or three different kinds of strands, twist them together & fasten into a chocker length necklace. So fun! 😊
I actually lived about an hour away from Canton, but it was just too big and had so many vendors selling new things I didn’t often go. Glad you found good things but I know why you were exhausted at the end of the day!
I love your taste in things and really like seeing how you put things together. I do have a problem however, while watching the videos. I have to sit with my finger on the pause because the viewing is so swift, I can't take it all in so fast. Glad you like shopping in Texas. I'm a native.
Omg, that place is mahoosive, love it. We have a large vintage flea market near us (at the Bath and west show ground - which you guys should go to). But, this is something else.
On your Tagliamonte bracelet I saw a few on line ..Poshmark & EBay beginning at like $260.00. Great find. One Medusa style in 14k was $479.00 Can’t wait for part 2!

The item you called a “stamp” is a meat tenderizer it’s wooden handle is missing. My mom used one like it all the time.
Yes, to make cube steak :)
I still have one I use.

So much great jewelry! Canton is so much fun. We live about 50 miles from Canton.
I live near Longview
I love the planter as it is.

OMG!!! I did the exact same thing with my Jenny Lind headboard!!! I can hear the squeaky noise in my head even to this day.
almost a kind of bird-song!
That beautiful planter is throwing out some Art Deco vibes! I love it!
For the planter, I would take an old pair of black leggings, put the planter in a leg to find the best fitting spot, and cut to fit with room to tuck over the planter edge. That’s so special! ❤️❤️
That brass bangles with the Bakelite is AWESOME!! 🥰🥰🥰
It’s a keeper for sure 😍
@@leftcoastrevivals I think it may be European. I have seen some compact bracelets, where the bakelite is actually a hinged compartment that can open up for perfume or makeup.
I’m happy to see you enjoying yourself with your friend! Is such a beautiful farm and all the beautiful animals!!
If one wanted to refinish furniture there is an abundance of pieces here it looks like. And omg…the turquoise jewelry! Fabulous.
The gold and silver bracelet has a the Tudor rose in the center. It’s also part of my logo Edgewater Rose Regalia ❤
I noticed that too!
I so enjoyed the White Queen series.

You need to have the Texas applied to the center back of blue Jean jackets.

You guys should make traveling Jean jackets…make it a thing for you guys
love this idea!
Well...That was fun !! Looking forward to next week 🤗❤
I Loved Everything about this Episode! It was Fabulous ❤
Awe I am jealous! I wanted to go there! My spouse would not stop. He knew it would be an all day event for me!
That turquoise plate is gorgeous!!
What a beautiful backdrop at your AirBnB as you showed your haul, Laura. The colours are so restful. The colours - BLUE AND GREEN!

Loving the “Happy Hour Hall”!
Hi from Waco! Been trying to plan to go to Canton for a year or so now lol I’ll make it one day! Thanks for all the wonderful videos! I learn so much
Gun Barrel City is a good place to stay. Reasonable hotel rates during the Canton Weekend. It is 22 miles away from Canton.
If you wanted to modify that pink vase while you use it, use acrylic paint. You can easily peel it off when you are ready to sell.
You are simply delightful. When I feel blue, I look for you to help me up!
Hello from Australia. Your flea market finds have re-ignited my passion for Op shopping. Love watching.
I love first Monday! I have so many childhood memories of going there. My grandparents lived in a town pretty much right next to it. Haven’t been in a long time but really want to go back now.
Loved the sky behind you when you were doing the haul. Loved the jewelry finds ❤!
When I sped it up while editing it looks so cool how it changes!! The storm rolled in and we had a big lightning show 😍
Thank you for sharing, Laura.
What a huge space to shop!
Your bag is amasing: grass, road, sand...
Hi Nancy!

Love picking up West Germany vases and I love my East German pottery I bought in East Berlin in 1986.
The wall brass planter would be dope as a bangle/bracelet jewelry holder and store the pot or sell it.
Antiques and Great Pyrenees...this was definitely my favorite video !!! ❤️🐾🐾🐾
Oh, additionally, I know you wouldn’t change the wall planter, but I loved the idea of the black matte paint. The current glaze is busy and takes away from the cool brass!
I was there when my son lived in texas It was a must on my list of things to do...
I am so thrilled I found you. Your videos bring me so much joy ❤ and inspiration 😊

You have such a great eye Laura and you pick up the most interesting items. I learn from your videos. Hi from Canada to you and Jesse
That bed is actually a Jenny Lind . Not Ginny Lin.
That caused a kerfluffle in my brain, too - lmao 😅
👍🤣
Jenny Lind was a Swedish opera star
I need to come to the USA just to buy one of those beds……they’re just beautiful.
Laura sometimes get things wrong. But her knowledge is wide and impressive. Can't fault her for research.
Always love your content, style and music. they all make it fun to watch

Woohoo was looking for something to watch perfect timing! 😊
That black and white beaded necklace looks more like a hat band to me…use the slider to size to the crown of your cowboy hat.
Funny you brought up storage units. I've been binge watching a few buyers and it's so interesting and tempting. 💥❗Love the video. You held up a silver and brass cuff that I had on hold on Ebay .. so of course I went back a bought it 😆
Oh!! This is between our house and my cousin’s. Next time we drive down we are meeting her here for a massive shop. Thx!
Loved the video I saw the Jewelry and thought now Laura will be fine there you got some beautiful stuff every piece love it all 💗💗💗💗💗💗
I like sip and haul with Laura! 😂
Me too 🍷🍷🍷
😆🍷
It’s so funny. I am watching this and I’ve been to all these locations but I’m like oh that store is still there. Oh that store is still there. I’m so happy to watch this and enjoy your purchases vicariously.
Pack away the pink planter piece, and use the metal part for hanging jewelry or belt. Put it all together again when you sell it!
I was even thinking keys by the front door 😍
I love my hulken bag too!! It holds so much stuff for band or girl scouts!! So many people ask where it's from.. gotta love a good bag that's hold a lot of stuff!!
Love your education on jewelry, always learn so much. Have never seen petit point turquoise rings or earrings. The burros were adorable, especially the spotted ones. Oh and the lighting going sides ways. My mother called it blanket or cloud to cloud.

Laura, you scored HUGE on the jewelry! Love pretty much everything you purchased from "Granny"!
Omg, that place is mahoosive, love it. We have a large vintage flea market near us (at the Bath and west show ground - which you guys should go to). But, this is something else.
You look so cute with that hat and the gorgeous little outfit! ❤
😁 Thanks!!
On your Tagliamonte bracelet I saw a few on line ..Poshmark & EBay beginning at like $260.00. Great find. One Medusa style in 14k was $479.00 Can’t wait for part 2!
Oh, that baby donkey! I live in Texas near Houston and have never been. I usually do Round Top and it is also fun.
It was only 3 days old 🥹 I hope to make it to Round Top someday!
