Hi Mike,I'm associated with the creator/executive producer of the mid 1970's NBC TV series Movin'On.This was a trucking show filmed on location in the Western and Eastern United States from July 1974 to December 1975.Five episodes were shot in Oregon.[Astoria/Seaside/Portland/Hood River/The Dalles/Troutdale/Shaniko Oregon]..One of those episodes is titled "Grit" and was partially filmed at the old Burns Brothers truck stop there in Troutdale. That truck stop is long gone.It was once located at or beside the McDonalds restaurant were you were at this videos opening.Another episode titled "Lifeline" was partially filmed in The Dalles Oregon. The cast/crew stayed at the old Portage Inn in The Dalles.....Enjoying riding shotgun with you!....Check out the series here on RUclips=MOVIN'ON...Season 1 and 2.
I remember Montana's "reasonable and prudent" speed limit system in the 90s. That was for cars, trucks had a definite speed limit which, ironically, was lower than that of Washington. Seemed like the natives did drive reasonably and prudently. It was the visitors being reckless, and those you'd see pulled over all the time.
Greetings! To answer one of your questions, in 1987 Professor Harry Hurt of the Univ. of SoCal published what since has become known as the "Hurt Report". The study was intended to assess existing data on motorcycle accidents, however it also answered one of your questions. In the report Hurt states that speed is not the major killer, it is speed differential. So when you mentioned states that have different speed limits for cars and trucks, these are the states that do not know what differential speeds mean. Your reaction times vary little with speed, however the reaction distance is necessarily longer with higher speeds. Therefore when a vehicle moving slower than you, and increasingly with slower speeds, does something which affects much faster drivers, these faster drivers cannot react fast enough and slow quickly enough to avoid impact.
As to the video quality, there was quite a bit of artifacting (blocking) even though TubeYou claimed it was 720P, it would sometimes look like potato-cam. I don't know what camera you use, but if it supports manual focus, then set it auto-focus, zoom to the most distant object you are likely to wish to see, let it focus, then switch to manual focus, and zoom out. Now everything will be in focus and there will be no hunting.
sure pretty through Columbia area. Love riding my bike along that wa. side. Wouldn't do it in a Semi. the tunnels are old arch ones low clearance. thanks for ride clyde.
20:30 - several years ago I saw a property with a nice old house with a daylight basement in Cascade Locks, right near the river (a little north of the original locks) with about a third of an acre, for $115,000. Missed it by that much, as Maxwell Smart would say. Beautiful location. Ah, well.
If you can ever drive the old river highway, Do It! Unbelievable and you can get close to the waterfalls. Obviously not in a big truck, otherwise well worth the drive. Take plenty of time for lots of stops. And maybe a picnic.
HELLO MIKE it looks like a good day to ride SHOTGUN Iam going to sit back enjoy the show PEACE

@@ridingshotgun1251 Anything west. I am in Arkansas and have never been to any mountain range states. Someday tho. I have watched a bunch of your videos and enjoy them a lot. Another fort, Fort Vancouver, used by the Hudson Bay Company back in 1829 as a trading post is also in Vancouver across the water from Portland. Reconstructed at the same spot it gives people the opportunity to see the real size and dimentions of those earlier dwellings. Almost laughable that they could keep anybody out but then no handy ladders around or someone trained in pole vaulting back then so I guess it worked for them in the wilderness.Vancouver has large original military buildings & housing called 'Officers Row'. If anyone comes to take in the falls you should come in the summer during the Rose Festival's Fleet Week in Portland. US Navy ships as well as the Coast Guard bring in ships for show and even the Royal Canadian Navy has shown up. ~Or if you like cooler weather just come in winter when the Oregon Zoo is dressed up for Christmas at night with lights, a train and hot cocoa. Portland International Raceway has it annual 'Winter Wonderland Holiday Light Show' which is a huge display of lights, animation and special events. 14:30 differential speeds for trucks and cars. In New Zealand, the general Open Road and Motorway speed limit is 100Km/Hr (62.5 mph). For Busses and Heavy Goods Vehicles (above about 5,00Kg) it is a limit of 90Km/Hr (56mph). The cops give very little leeway above those figures and speed cameras are used widely -- both fixed and mobile units. Bastards!
Beautiful. My husband and I traveled via Amtrak from Sacramento (with over night in Portland due to rails being worked on) to St. Cloud, MN after 9/11. I guess this is why you are videoing your trips..and catching the houses, cars, and sights as you pass by. One question I have for you (you can answer while trucking down the road) of all the places you have traveled, which one do you regret not stopping in and spending some time?
