Thats fine for an old engine…but for most contemporary cars its plain stupid and it only contributes to kill the environment and your wallet. Modern engine’s with good oil (full synthetic, not “semi”) can withstand 9000miles oil changes and im being conservative. Of course this is something very difficult to explain in USA where oil services are delivered like fast food…

When I was growing up in the 60’s, cars needed an oil change every 2000 miles, and a set of plugs and points every 10-12000. Those engines were carbureted and the tolerances were crap compared to today’s specs. And most engines were smoking oil by 100k miles and the bodies were starting to rust through. I change my 66 Tbirds oil at 2k but it only has 54000 miles so it’s still good. I do change my turbo cars oil at 4000, because of the extreme heat they put on the oil.

Many European cars have large sump capacity. Eight, or Nine, plus quarts.

It was piss poor engineering, but nothing out of the ordinary for American car manufacturers.

excellent question. To improve emission on your diesel its programed now so its running rich and dumping more fuel into oil during Regen process. To slow down catastrophic engine failure due to long drain and fuel in oil they are using higher viscosity. If you want to get best possible life out of your diesel, change your oil 5k miles max or sooner if a lot of city driving and allow regen to be completed before turning engine off.

Bro. These scum bags are ripping us off. Everyone needs to know to only buy 0w40.
If you want I can explain how to turn into into a 0w30, or even 0w20 weight.
They put the most technology in 0w40. It's not a mystery. And if they charge the same it's a NO BRAINER!!!!
