      Thank you. You are absolutely right, if I were tilling this soil for function I would have definately mowed first. For this video, I was just testing out the driveline in a vacant lot.

    Well I did the carb all new and I thought I was getting good spark and I was but it was cutting out on me so the spark was off and on so come to find out I had to put in a new condenser and it's up and running great and I'm splitting wood with it I can believe how much power this old motor has for a 1970 model and being all cast iron and I had to reset the carb like you said to set it at and when I did it ran so much better with your settings so thank you vary much and keep putting out the videos I enjoy watching them thank you again have a great nite

      That's great to hear. These old engines were built when the horsepower rating really meant something. For the future, don't get overwhelmed with small engines...they only need three things to run... fuel, spark and compression. Break it down into those three basic diagnostic parts and you can get any engine running again.

    Thank you for the comment, I don't plan on painting it now. I am going to use it to till firebreaks, push snow and scrape paths. I don't want to be worried about pretty paint. I have several vids of this tractor from when I bought it at an estate sale to where it is today. Thanks for watching.

    @whitehd01 Thanks for the comment. I don't watch much television and I love being outside. I really get satisfaction creating something out of nothing and this has been a great project so far. I don't think they are very common. They do pop up now and again, but are very expensive. I got very lucky finding this machine in it's condition. One owner before me...not cut up and modified and no real barnyard repairs....

    @Mopardude I worry about the clearance too...I made a skid plate to protect the front pulley. Otherwise the shaft is where the stock one ran.... the angle on the universal and front pulley are lined up, and frame design limitations prevent me from tucking it up any farther. I guess they figured if you are using the tiller, it is for garden beds which are typically brush free and level. I, of course, will be using it to cut fire breaks around structures, so anything can happen. stay tuned.

    For a workin tractor like that the low shaft would have me worried about ground clearance. But other wise its a pretty sweet setup you have going on now. You can accomplish many a task now!

    @trbfshmn TRB, I had planned on welding a gusset on that bracket. I need it to be able to be removed when not in use. I noticed the flex before, but I always tend to overengineer stuff (cause I don't usually use things for their intended purpose) and wanted to see how it worked as is. Firming up the bracket may stop the belt squeak and it is a brand new belt and had the "new belt slime" on it. I will keep y'all informed. Thanks for watching. ybk

    @jackcass13 It is a little oval... the old guy who owned it used to pull humself up into the seat with the wheel. He also used to slide out on the left fender (notice it sits very close to the wheel) I need to correct that if I plan on running chains in the snow/ice.

    • @yourbeekeeper

      This tractor is kept at a different location and I don't have immediate access to it. The lift connection is a simple rod that connects to the hydraulic ram on the belly of the tractor to a point on the tiller.

    ***** Thank you I think the reason I can't make my lever lock is because the belt I bought might be slightly thicker ... do you have the belt part number? And where can i buy it? I was told belt size is 1/2 x 35 or 5/8 x 35 thanks for your videos!

    • @yourbeekeeper
      @yourbeekeeper  9 лет назад

      Ruben Lemus Hi Ruben, I don't have the tractor handy today... it's raining outside and it's under a cover. If I remember right, it is a thicker than typical belt, so 5/8" sounds right. You have the tensioner pulley riding on the outside of the belt right? If your PTO lever is not locking maybe the new belt has more tension than the old belt coupled with wear in the lever system is not allowing it to stay locked. I had to work on my levewr system in order for the PTO lever to stay forward. Best of luck.

    Here's one for ya I have the same motor that someone took out of a tractor like yours and installed that motor into a homemade log splitter and I'm haveing problems with the motor to stay running so the carb was all nasty so I took it off and cleaned it all out completely and then found a rebuild kit for that carb and rebuilt it and if fires right up but then dies the bowl is still full of gas but it won't keep pushing fuel for some reason it just runs out of gas I let it sit for a few minutes then hit the key and it starts right back up then dies again did you have any problems with your carb or fuel so I took it back apart and there isn't anything wrong that I can see so if you have had problems with your carb can you give me the settings on the carb and what do you think it might be ??? lol I need help if you can think of anything thanks for your input !!

    • @yourbeekeeper
      @yourbeekeeper  7 лет назад

      Assuming your compression is good and there are no leaks in the intake gasket, I would suspect you have missed cleaning the idle jet or your idle screw is leaking air by either a worn screw or worn o-ring.. The screw setting are around 1 1/2~2 turns out...that will get you running and then you fine tune it from there.

  • @clifffluegge3997
    @clifffluegge3997 7 лет назад +1

    Well that may just be the problem I have the jet set at 1 to 1 1/4 turn out so maybe I'm just not getting enough air fuel mix to even get it to run at all I did a compression check and at 125 or a little more then that and nothing is leaking around the head at all I left the compession gage in for over 30 minutes and it didn't drop at all so I'll reset the air screw and try that thank you I'll let you know what happens

    Hey Beekeeper, I have the same rig. same color, same patina except mine is not hydrostatic. Every time I engage the tiller and its in use for about 15 minutes the engine dies. After setting for maybe 30 minutes it starts right up...happens over and over. Any ideas?

    • @yourbeekeeper
      @yourbeekeeper  3 года назад

      Hey David, By the sound of it, I would suspect ignition components. Points, Condenser or coil....I would replace the coil first. Running the tiller puts a good load on the engine and causes it to run hotter. The fact that you have to wait for things to cool down before it starts up sounds like coil. Next time it runs to failure, I would test the spark and see if it's present. If you still have spark and it's not starting, It could be vapor locking the fuel, but that's not common in those engines. Another distant possibility is low compression...test it cold... maybe when it gets to temp the compression drops to the point it doesn't want to run... but a very low possibility. Best of luck with your tractor...I love mine so much I have two...lol. Let me know how it sorts out. Thanks for watching.

    • @Ronnie.V.89

      Replace the condenser, a failing one will cut spark when they heat up.

    hello +yourbeekeeper is there a way you can let me know belt sizes? i have one just like it same tiller as well... i know the pto belt is 57x5/8 but dont know the size of the one that engages the tiller its a smaller one.
    thanks!

    • @yourbeekeeper
      @yourbeekeeper  7 лет назад

      Hi Ruben, I don't have the original pulley box for the pto. I fabricated a pulley system to drive the tiller and I am sure it's not the same size belts as the original pulley box. Check the Gilson Tractor Forum in Yahoo Groups, They would have that information.

      I don't see a reason why you couldn't add a tiller. The PTO is engine driven not power train driven.

    nice tractor, but it's not really tilling very well, it's just cutting the surface a bit. I never did have much confidence in those small power tillers. no substitute for a real farming implement. those small tractors are great for driveway snow and small dirt piles though....I have one.

    • @yourbeekeeper
      @yourbeekeeper  10 лет назад +2

      This was a video in a series of several vids of work on this tractor... I was not attempting to till up this dry hard earth... I was simply trying to test out what work I had done and see if it would hold up. I have never thought this to be capable of what a full size tractor can accomplish... if you take it for what it is, it's a great machine.
