10 seconds of this video go by and I’m already in tears.
I lost my Border Collie, Borre, a few months back. I’ve never cried so much in my life. She started having problems in her legs stopped responding. She couldn’t walk. Her organs started shutting down. I grasped the last few moments with her seeing as her eyes closed slowly.
I miss you, Borre. My baby...

Beautiful story of a beautiful dog. I know my Meko, who looks just like Zeta, is coming to the end and I cry every time we walk. He rescued us 9 yrs ago and don't know how old he is; but he inspired me to become a therapy mother. He has been my partner to schools, hospitals, libraries, trauma units, and hospice...my sweetheart...

I had a rescued Border Collie and she was an beautiful dog called Maggie . When her elder owners went to a home they could not keep her so the dog was given to someone who chained her to a big tree where she laid day and night. My friend unchained her and drove 2 days to give her to my family. He called us and said "I have a dog for you" OK bring her along and she lived with our other 3 dogs one being a Border Collie puppy. Maggie nurture the puppy for 3 years until she died. She had a happy life with us. I have 3 dogs now and I miss Maggie still.

Hi Howard, I also lost my Border Collie Liela last September and she was the best companion for the 14years we shared, extremely smart girl and I still miss her to this day and always will. After 8 nearly 9 months without her and an empty feeling home, 3 days ago I welcomed and rehomed another Border Collie into my life, 11month old pure bred pup named Gypsy, she already in such a short time has brought so much joy again in my families life, just like Liela had.

This was beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Buddy was my very special Border Collie. He helped me to keep going after my husband passed away. Then 20 months after his death, Buddy and I were on another road trip and he passed away in the back seat of the truck. My hand was on him as he took his last breath. Buddy gave our family great joy, great fun, great love. Unconditional love was given by Buddy. "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." Anabole France

Really wonderful, moving video. What a tribute. Lost my “Jewel” 18 months ago and the loss pains me every single day. Typical collie she was and gave me once what I consider to be the funniest sight that I have ever seen.
We were out in the front garden, me working and the dog snoozing in the sun. Post van rolls up and postman gets out, sorts the mail within three metres of Jewel then walks past her within a metre to deliver it. Up she jumps, runs through two open gates into the back garden, round the house, in through the back door and through three rooms to arrive in time to bark at the mail as it drops through the letter box. Need to bark at the offending mail, you see, not the mail man. Miss her

I just had to reply to your comment.
I had my mate for 17 years, he's been gone now for 7 :( Thats him in my avatar.
One day I went to visit my brother, and his garden was divided in half by a fence with a gate in the middle. Whenever I visited my brother Mr Dog would run ahead of me to the gate, and my brothers four legged friend would be waiting on the other side of the gate, and there they would both bark and wimper excitedly until I arrived and opened the gate for them.
On this particular day my brother had removed the fence entirely, but the gate was still standing all on its own in the middle of the garden!
I'm sure you've already guessed what happened.
They both stood on either side of the gate barking and winpering with excitement, desperate to play.
Mr Dog did at one point realise he could run around the gate, and he did, but then he quickly ran back to the other side so that he could continue barking through the gate.
I tried to make them realise that they could ignore the gate, but in the end I had to open it for them.
Have you any idea how stupid a human can feel when forced to open a gate that has no purpose? :-)
He was such an intelligent dog and sometimes living with him could be described as mental warfare. For example - I was a trcuck driver and Mr Dog went on all my journeys with me, and he got to know most of the people where I delivered. One day I didnt have time to let him out of the cab (where people normally fed him treats), when I got back in the cab he sat there looking at me with his cross face on. I said sorry to him then got the truck running and started the journey home. After a few miles I became aware of the smell of oranges, and the smell was getting stronger.
I should mention here that Mr Dog was an expert at unscrewing bottle tops!
As we drove down the motorway I happened to glance down at the tray which held all the paperwork for my deliveries, and it also held my phone and a camera.
The tray was awash with orange juice!!!
Mr Dog had taken the top off a whole bottle of orange juice and emptied it into the tray. My phone and camera were dead, and the invoices and cash were sodden.
I looked at Mr Dog and his expression was so clear - "That'll teach you to not let me out for my treats"
I laughed so hard I had tears rolling down my face as we drove down that road :)

My brindle twice abandoned border collie is 17yrs ,1 yr mourning her lab life partner also abandoned. She perked up when we brought home a leggy, energetic shepherd?lab mix from shelter who has taken over protecting me from squirrels, brings me my socks and shoes when it is time to go out. When I was in my 20's I thought a good dog was the breed, the raising. I was wrong. The love, the soul of a "rescue" dog shows in their eyes, no matter the breed. Magnificent video

Beach Bum -many thanks! If you can, listen again to the first 25 seconds of this film. It surprises me that such a young guy has this kind of insight. I've never heard his comment before, although he ascribes it to provincial wisdom.
IF in the NDE, we have the privilege of a life or many-lives review, this principle of infinite waves generated by our thoughts, words and deeds radiating out in all directions is what we come to know first-hand.
The film could end here and we'd be all the richer for it. I wonder if growing up in some place like Cape Town, while spending so much time outdoors, is a key to Erlo Brown's insights. Living in Newport Beach, California, you'd rarely-if ever-meet someone like him, his girlfriend, his brother and parents.
Amazingly, you would meet numerous dogs, cats, squirrels, crows, raccoons and opossums on Zeta's level of enthusiasm and open heartedness. An interesting dichotomy.

I totally get this. I am on my third border collie. After my other two past,I was heartbroken and for a time I told myself no more dogs. Life was just going on but I was just wondering and thinking about collie's and missing my two girls and our adventures. I needed to find another dog. I was kind of lost. And so I found my now new best mate. Murphy. A blue merle boy border collie. He does not replace Jess and poppy. They were special. But so is he in his own fantastic way. Collies are very special indeed. I want to spend most of my time with my best friend because before you know it the time will go.

This could almost be my story. For 8 beautiful and happy years I was the lucky and proud owner of a border collie called Samba. He truly was the love of my life. My true soulmate. I loved more than anyone or anything. When he died I was absolutely destroyed with grief. Nearly 4 years on I still miss him so much. But after he died we got another border collie called Shilo. I called him Shilo after the Neil Diamond song because it was a song about a friend who came when no one else was there and Shilo was there for me when Samba was gone. It took a while, but Shilo taught me to be able to love again and now I love him so much too. But Samba will always be the special one. I hope I see him again someday.

A beautiful short. I cried watching, having recently lost my best friend, Rossi my Alsatian-mixed BC, my "Schollie". Two days later, I had to get a BC pup - not a replacement - nobody can replace Rossi, but Scott, as is the new puppy's name is the next best thing.

Such gentle souls...I don’t know how I’ll ever manage when i’m no longer able to see his smiling face every day, so plaintively asking “So, now what? What should we play & discover next?” True unconditional love can only be had from a dog.

Great comment. Have a collie called Paddy (yes he is Irish) he is getting on in years now. But loved your observation about ‘ok so what now’. The collie stare is like a si~fi death ray……in a nice way. Have retired now and he keeps me very active and through him I have met and talked to so many people with their dogs! When the time comes for us to part company, while it will break my heart, I have enough good memories of our time together for the rest of my life. Clever, beautiful, active and empathetic dogs.

@@ErloBrown1 Hey Erlo your video mentioned you took dog backpacking for a long duration at 5 months.
What kind of challenges did you run into with the dog doing this?
I'm curious because I also want to take her backpacking. Did you find your dog was fine off leash at this age in the woods or did you keep her on leash at all times? Any bits of advise for someone interested in making that attempt?
This breed is certainly challenging but so worth it!

    • @ErloBrown1
      @ErloBrown1  3 года назад +1

@@jeremyvanpelt5097 I would say that it has more to do with your individual dog and your ability to "train" it than it has to do with the breed. Our walk was 10 months long (3200km) and when we started she was about seven months old, a puppy. Dogs are great at moving as a pack, that what they are, pack animals. For the first month or two I had her on leash, thereafter I had her off leash more and more. By the end she was capable of staying on my heal in literally any circumstances. From walking next to a highway to walking past barking street dogs. Consistency is key, I also treated her like dogs treat each other, respect and consequences. Collies are highly sensitive and need little more than a firm look to know when they have gone out of line. As long as your dog is by your side and knows that you are it's pack leader you can pretty much go anywhere with it. Also, dogs are way, way tougher than humans, so don't be too soft on your furry friend.

    • @jaegertiger384
      @jaegertiger384 2 года назад +2

@@ErloBrown1 You were ABSOLUTELY correct in the way you trained her to stay with you. Most humans don't recognize importance of time and patience with the kindness of training you gave her. In the process, she became PART of you... So to be "off the leash" was actually her being CLOSER to you than when she had been at the beginning.
BCs transcend levels of understanding that most humans can never understand or appreciate. But they certainly pave the way.
