    She just passed away Rory . She made a couple of great albums around this time , well worth checking out.

    She was always more of a punk than the pop star she became but she soon rebelled in a a very big way , tearing up a picture of the pope on US tv to highlight sexual abuse happening in the catholic church. Ruined her career but it turned out she was right , a very brave woman and brilliant singer , a sad loss to humanity

    Excellent. Ok, keep it going for artists will real talent. BETH HART has also played PINKPOP (in 2005). You last reacted to Beth about a month ago doing Sam Cooke's 'A Change is Gonna Come" at the Echoplex in LA in front of 400 people. At PinkPop she has 70,000 fans in the palm of her hand--she just owns the venue. Here, performing her song "House of sin," she's not a Blues Goddess but the quintessential Rock Star: ruclips.net/video/yLv0QuW8hHo/видео.html
    Also, two other mind-blowing performances you'll want to see are:
    (1) “Am I The One” (An epic performance from the legendary 2004 Live at Paradiso concert in Amsterdam): ruclips.net/video/hZG3MghkX3Q/видео.html
    (2) “Caught Out in The Rain” (From the 2018 Royal Albert Hall concert in London; about an unhealthy relationship with a dangerous man): ruclips.net/video/lzdJf7Hqttk/видео.html

    😔 This has always been my favorite song of hers. Just guts me.
    The album version with full orchestration is incredible... but this is even more emotional and powerful. 🔥
    She was always raw, outspoken and fearless, consequences be damned. RIP

    My favorite live performance of any performer on youtube... I cant imagine how great it would have been to see this live...no one is like her...agree with other comment about doing the entire Lion and the Cobra album RIP brave truth teller...you were an incredible person and artist

      Not many people ever got to see her do Troy live. She mostly refused to sing it, even though the crowd would call out for it. This is one of the few times she did it.

    Something so feral in this performance, raw.
    And you're right, damn did she pull off the shaved look.
    Edit: Another thing, I also hadn't heard any of her music and like you, I thought it would be much more poppy, orchestral even - like Celine Dion or something - but she came out like a folk punk, screaming and strumming.

    • @bsjett
      @bsjett Год назад +6

      @@counselthyself2591 Yeah, I always knew about her just pop culturally - The SNL Pope thing, the MSG booing, and more recently her unfortunately public mental health struggles - just not the music.
      Unfortunately don't have access to the services the doc is on, but will keep an eye out in case it becomes more widely available.

      She was a badass and a punk at heart, more punk than the punks, musically she crossed genres, a couple of recommendations ruclips.net/video/TsIoxvkChWw/видео.html (Mandinka from the same festival, very catchy rockier tune)
      ruclips.net/video/n14lwdpYkAA/видео.html (Black boys on Mopeds, folky political tune)

    My favourite Sinead song by a mile. First time seeing this live performance. BTW, good reviews and comments, as always. Truthful and honest. Thanx for that. I like to see/hear other peoples perspectives on things that I like. You provide many of them on music that I like.

    She was just one of a kind.
    Her debut album (Troy was on it)' the Lion and the Cobra' - is still one of the great albums ever and stands up after all these years.
    A total powerhouse of a vocal. 'Mandinka' or 'Jerusalem' would be your next stop.

    My God, she's every bit as good as a live performer as she was a recording artist.
    She was singular. 😢

  • @hemlock399

    Great choice. Troy is from her first album, The Lion and the Cobra, which is brilliant from start to finish. The studio version of Troy has a more haunting quality, in part because of the strings / synth-strings instrumentation, rather than the folk feel of this live performance. It's certainly worth a listen, or even a reaction since the video is cool.
    Nothing compares 2 U is her big pop hit, released on her second album. It's a cover of a Prince song. Check out the official video and it may jog your memory. It *is* a great song and video, and I'm no pop fan.
    The bulk of her discography does not fit the pop category. I'd recommend Fire on Babylon from her 4th album.
    The history of her career is fascinating. Nothing Compares catapulted her to superstardom almost over night. And then she went on Saturday Night Live in 1992 and performed a powerful cover of Bob Marley's War, modified to call out the Catholic Church for abusing children. People, especially in the USA, weren't ready to hear that at the time, and her career tanked in America. A short while later she was to perform at a show at Madison Square Gardens in honour of Bob Dylan. A bunch of the audience booed and jeered her for her SNL performance, and she just stared them down for a few uncomfortable minutes. She then defiantly shouted the lyrics to War at the crowd. To say that she was gutsy and had enormous artistic integrity would be a huge understatement. Both events are very powerful, and give you a good sense of who she was artistically. Excellent reaction subjects.
    Cheers.

    She wrote this song about her mother, who abused her.

  • @sharkdog111
    @sharkdog111 Год назад +7

    One of my top 5 live performances of all time. Just FYI this song was about her mother in early childhood. Her mother was very abusive to her, and would force her to live outside the house for days, sometimes weeks at a time. The long grass would keep her warm at night, and she would look into her mothers window waiting for a light to come on in the morning, possible letting her back into the house. That documentary that came out in 2022 is amazing.

    The production of this song on the album The Lion And The Cobra is different. It has violins and synthesizers. You should react to it and her other songs from all of her albums.
    RIP Sinead O'Conner. Thank you for your music, activism, fighting Irish spirit and outspokenness. You were ahead of your time and you will be missed. ❤

    Yes! All the female singers in the 90’s are reminiscent of Sinead. If she hadn’t gotten cancelled for ripping up a picture of the pope, she would have Bea mega-star. Instead the void was filled by loads of fabulously wild, free, and strong female singers, which was likely for the best as Sinead really struggled with fame, poor tender-hearted dragoness. Too much honesty and sincerity for the world’s stage. 😢
