Just finished listening to Tom Power's interview with Geddy on the release of his memoir. He chose this song to close out the interview because he said it was like a memoir as well. So true, I never get tired of this song, it rocks. Rush will live on through their music. God bless you Geddy for your wonderful book. ❤
thats exactly what i have done! what a song! what a band!
Also just finished that interview. Came here to listen to this song once again as a tribute to one of my favorite bands since I found out about them in 1980.
Ditto, that interview brought tears
Same here, came here after watching the interview. Bought "A Farewell To Kings" in 1977, been listening to Rush ever since. The interview was beautiful... Geddy is such a lovely soul!
And the bit about RIO, if you ever see the video of that concert, WOW. The most energy and excitement I have ever seen at a concert. Pure joy!
It sucks that we'll never get another Rush album but god damn is this a great album to go out on. Not a single dud on the entire album and it really carries the feeling that they knew this might be their last album. Really glad I got to see them play this live and with a string quartet no less! RIP Neil
Ditto! The guys rocked this one and they rocked it even more live!
Why do you have invoke God D, with your nonsensical comment? POS.
Killer song
God Bless Neil Peart .Rest In Peace genius.
this is why they are the best rock band of all time.
Ho yes
100 percent. For 3 people to make music like that is unearthly
@@gradymalachowski2936 Three guys pushing 60 at the time, too.
Yup
Absolutley yes
Let us all take a moment, and appreciate how talented Geddy is at bass
2020... still my favorite band, has been since 1982 when I was 13. Their music influenced me to play some of my own on various instruments over the years. I wouldn't be the same person without them.
Yes, I feel the same, got hooked on rush in 79' saw them 7 times, it was not enough, they are my life story,.
One of my favorite stories about Rush occurred after they produced Caress of Steel. In my opinion, Caress of Steel is one of their best albums but it didn't sell well. Their record label strongly discouraged them from doing another theme album. Geddy, Alex and Neil discussed their situation and decided the following. 1. They knew they could make more money with commercial stuff. 2. They knew they could lose their contract if they defied the record label's advice and 3. They didn't care. So they produced 2112. We all know how well that worked out for them. From then on, they could do what they wanted. Rush is the best rock band ever and, apparently, record company executives are money whores with shit for brains. This one song, by itself, is incontrovertible evidence of the massive amount of excrement filling the thick skulls of record company execs.
3. They didn't care... they went for it...all the way!! :)
I agree, Jim Seko!:) I was born at North Memorial Medical Center, in Minneapolis, MN in 1965. I moved from Crystal, MN to Wadena, MN in 1975. I thought I hated it, and became a loner. That's when I discovered Rush... Fly by Night. Then Caress of Steel came out, and I was in Heaven! I just couldn't figure out why the fans didn't like it... i was only 10 years old, but Geddy, Neil, and Alex spoke to me, although I new they wouldn't know me from Adam, Rush led me on so many 'Journeys', and I finally got to see them 'Live' in 1983!:) R.I.P. Neil! Semper Fidelis
I wouldn't go as far as to say they were the best trick band ever. (Although obviously to each their own) But no doubt they certainly have Their rightful place in history and the Hall of Fame if that is even a considering factor.
I will say the three had Play Bond between them and each had their own individual talents that deserve praise. For the record I don't dislike Rush by any means. Rush holds a special party in my mind and my heart and some of their music is unparalleled.. I'll give you that.. 2112 for instance holds a special place for me. The entire album was just incredible in my opinion. They lost me a long line somewhere but no matter, doesn't take away from what they did that was spectacular...
And I guess the only reason I would say they're not the best is just because of those that didn't quite reach the pinnacle. To where is in my opinion some bands really didn't have those kinds of songs or albums.
Led Zeppelin for instance. In my mind, in my opinion just didn't have that kind of period where maybe you shouldn't have made those albums or released those songs. I can think of a few that were less than But we came to expect from them, yes. (And with that I understand there are those that would disagree w/my opinion). Overall though, Rush certainly deserve their position in history & in our minds and our hearts..
& the loss of Neil, first from the music and then from the world was certainly a massive & extremely sad one.
Rock in peace Niel!!!
When l first heard that Neil Peart's daughter Serena had been in a fatal car accident the night before,
Our Universe became a different place at that point, the cause and effect and ramifications that would ensue were instantly apparent.
I thought OH F:((# this changes everything.
That was an understatement.
The Rush camp and the fan base never recovered from it.
We carried on, but it was never with the original enthusiasm it was more galvanized.
RIP Serena, Mom, Neil
Don't be sad that it finished. Smile because it happened.
wow thanks for telling me what to think and how to feel, youre the *real* fkg hero.
@@rickdeckard1075 don't be a dick. You're welcome.
This song has bad ass bass riffs, drumming thats insane, and that straight badass metal sound of guitar playing, this is a crazy good song!
The by tor bass is in this as well.
Incredible song. Amazing that a band could make such great music nearly 40 years into their career.
This is the sound of 3 of the greatest rock musicians of all time letting loose and having a blast! One of Rush's absolute bangers.
Been a huge Rush fan since 2112 came out. Seen them 10 times and took my youngest son to see them on their 30th anniversary tour. I freakin cried when i heard Neil had passed. Love them...always will!!
The year was 2012, I was in high school. I went back to my desk after I failed a philosophy presentation and then turned on my mp4 player and I curled up This song totally lifted my spirits. It's a shame this song is so underrated! Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
Best song Rush has put out in 30 years. Textbook Rush. I could hear this on any of the 70's vintage Rush LP's
I think you're right. How about three guys with nothing to prove playing like it's 1975 -- or 2112. Neil is ferocious on this. He's playing like a man half his age.
I love my Rush Fam! Let's live it all again!
my favorite song on the album. rush is the best band to ever exist.
This song,"Seven cities of gold" and "Carnies"...
The thing that gets me about this song, is that it's kind of a thematic sequel to "Time Stand Still." But Time Stand Still is this thoughtful, melodic, and harmonious rumination on the bittersweet passage of time. And Headlong Flight, released almost a quarter of a century later, is this driving, balls-to-the-wall, unapologetic acceptance of time well spent. And that these two lyrical messages were written by THE SAME MAN. One from a time when he came to appreciate the passage of time but still hadn't even entered middle age; the other when he was only a handful of years away from his own death.
Rush back at their best!!!.....awesome musicianship!!
Your ears + Rush + volume = Rock!
I remember a few progressive (grunge) stations played this track in the FM NW channels. KFLY Eugene OR, KNRK Camas WA, and 105 the Brew Portland. Not a swan song but a great exit song to go to the next phase after losing Neil. RIP and God bless Rush.
I hear some Bastille Day in there and love it!
THIS ALBUM WAS A GOODBYE! WE JUST DIDN'T KNOW IT....
No Life Shack said it best, " musical nerds, I don't know whether to hoopla hoop? Or throw a ɓrick!" Spirit of Radio..😊
Bastile day vibe!
It just gets better and better on repeated listenings. Better to just listen than watch the video, once you got the basic lyrics down. But as usual with Rush you gotta earn it. Once you learned it, you earned it. Falling in love with this fucking amazing song!!! Long live Rush!!!!!!!!
Been a fan of Rush since their first album "Rush" ..saw them in concert in 75 and many since including their last 40 year tour. This is a great song to remember them by. RIP Neil, you are missed.
This proves that they never lost it
Headlong flight, Far Cry from Snakes and Arrows are epic, return to a sophisticated, metal sound as only Rush can do. TOP TEN Rush songs in my Rush Library...
They just keep getting better! Long live RUSH!
Awesome song.
Magnificent bass line
The bass playing is just phenomenal gotta love rush!!!
I've been listening to Rush since 1981. I'm well versed in their catalog; but that drum fill right before the 2nd verse. Blows my mind. Every. Single. Time.
3 incredible musicians absolutely ripping it up.
The Canadian trio. There were others, but Rush were the best.
I remember when I was the tender age of 17 hearing Tom Sawyer on the radio. Couldn't believe the drum licks on this song. That made me a Rush fan for life. Believe it or not, but I lived only a few miles away (Springfield VA) from Dave Grohl. A few years later he had his "drummer epiphany" with 2112.
Vintage Rush, they have been one of my fav. bands from the start. Seen them live to many times to count. Blows away today's music.
RUSH!!! they're still the best!! Exclamation So stoked to hear the entire record!!
First time I've ever heard this song by Rush.... and I could totally see Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters doing an excellent cover of this song, as a tribute to Rush.
When bands are inducted into the RRHOF, they tend to play their old hits at the ceremony. Rush played Tom Sawyer and Spirit of Radio, but if they wanted to, they could have played Headlong Flight. They weren't done. That's song was on the charts and it was over 7 minutes long.
Thank you for this one.
As Geddy has recently noted this reflects a sense of the journey of Rush....
"I wish I could live it all again...."
Although part of Clockwork Angels book and concept it does also reflect what we all consider.... looking back on our own journey ... our life.....
"i wouldn't change tomorrow for today"......
Great to hear that wonderful power trio still kicking butt and taking names!
absolutely in love with the chorus chords
I think this somg is very much about RUSH looking back on their career.
"Oh, but this isn't prog ;-;"
OK, well why don't you go listen to Close to the Edge for the 1000th time. And I'll thoroughly enjoy this (not-prog) song, equally as much.
Everyone wins.
Just can't get enough of it... Freakin great!
best lyric video i have seen so far + a better video than some normal musick videos...
rush rocks
Seeing them Friday, after Thanksgiving at MGM Grand Garden. Great way to work off dinner! Can not wait to see them!! Rush 4ever!
I became a huge Rush fan after this album came out. This song blew me away when I first heard it and learned it was them.
The Musicianship of this band is from another world. So precise.
Thank you RUSH!
This isn't their best album by a long measure, but it's still very good and shocking that a band could maintain such consistently high output for so many years.
I wouldnt say not their best by a 'long measure', even this song is amazing man, elements of their whole career and heavy as hell!
Is there a band of twenty years old around today capable of such musicianship and rock power? I would like to know....LONG LIVE RUSH indeed!
DM: Yes, check out NIN, starting with three songs: "Just Like You Imagined," "Beside You In Time," and "The Frail/The Wretched": on a different level!
so friggin cool and ROCKIN. bought my first cassette of RUSH in 1978 and then caught them at the Sportatorium in WPB later that year. my ears slightly rang for two days afterwards!
I can play the beginning and middle of the song on my bass! I don't dare try learning the rest! Its so awesome
THATS WHAT GOT ME HERE TOO THANKS
I was fortunate to see Rush on this tour, and this song was my favorite from the last album. This song was amazing live.
AMAZING!
PERFECTION AT ITS BEST!
MACHINERY MUSIC!
My goodness! That’s Rush, my friends!
whats cool about this song is that its so raw and yet refined that if you didnt know which album it was on, it would actually fit on any of them.
Neil died on my son’s birthday….. cried like a baby .
BEST BAND EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At the end of an interview, Geddy Lee was asked what one song out of all of Russia's catalog they should end the interview with. He said this one.
oh my god i listen to this song and i remember caress of steel!
This song kicks ass!!!
Beyond Epic ! A life statement !
RUSH ROCKS
RUSH IS BACK
The Rock & Roll hall of shame should be ashamed that this band is not in.
OMG!! Its released on my birthday!
D: Deliberately so--your B'D PRESENT, eh?
What a band! So sad that they are no more. R.I.P. maestro.
Caravan,bu2b, and this song are just awesome !!!! Cant wait to hear entire album and see em life!!!
In my opinion, their goodbye song.
This one or the garden
Another great song! This song rocks!!! Can't wait for the tour!!!!!
I LOVE IT!!!!!
Fucking love that bass. Hardcore fan since 2002
since 1979, they always amaze me, so talented!
I first heard them when I played NFS Hot Pursuit II, when their song "One Little Victory" was put on that game's soundtrack. This is another one of those great songs that I can just jam out to!
Fantastic!
I Wish That I Could Live It All Again!
Wow!...that's all I can say! If this album doesn't debut at #1..there's something seriously wrong with the music world! (and there is!!) But, let's make it happen!
Awesome!
That drum fill at 4.33. 🔥
Definitely gonna pick this album up.
Dus you pick it up?
@@Rosbergen80 yes.
Amazing ❤
RIP Neil
Jawoll das isses. Gewohnte Rush Qualität. Freue mich auf die CD.
Great song and great classic Rush video footage. Nice steampunk look too!
Based on the three tracks I've heard so far, I cannot wait for June 12! And of course September 11 in Pittsburgh! Kick arse, old school Rush!
RUSH IS BACK!
The profesors of rock!!!
I like Rush
Amazing, got to come to UK again!!
this is a great song for this times and for remember Neil Peart RIP
Love it!! Can't wait for June 12th
You know, I've heard some people recently say that Rush aren't metal, not real metal. This is easily disproven, whether you take a song from their early albums, or their last as seen here. (But really, when someone pulls the 'real metal' card you shouldn't listen to them anyways.)
Geddy Lee is the best bass player of all time!
love this song :*
STOKED!
Tomorrow tomorrow you'll be there tomorrow it's only a day awayyyyy
This is Neil's biography with Rush compressed into 7:20 of awesomeness.
If that song doesn't make you want to get up and do something, nothing is going to motivate you.
My ears just came...
PC: No, your eardrums just ruptured; that's BLOOD, pardner.
