I know I'm rather late to the party on this, but I feel like that's not a good counter-argument. I _do_ get the basic premise? If you hop into a novel halfway through, you're not really going to know what's going on. If you sit down at the 60 minute mark of a film, you're going to struggle getting into the scenario. But a monthly series of issues _aren't_ a graphic novel, let alone an *actual* novel, regardless of whether or not that's the intention at the outset. While a lengthy breakdown isn't strictly necessary, and going back to get some context will likely always be part of the experience, every issue or every episode in a series should serve as its own standalone story you can get involved with. Invincible was really good about this, as I jumped into the comic around the halfway mark. And while I did go back to read prior issues, I had little trouble figuring out what each character's deal was, how they reacted with other characters, and what the general "plot" of the issue in question was regardless of which issue I happened to pick up at the time. If you can't tell a decent story that _happens_ to have some connecting tissue to both prior and forthcoming parts, then that reflects poorly on you as a writer, not on the ignorance of the readers.
@Sora Bringer That’s why I didn’t say “start.” That said, I find it hard to believe that any writer worth his salt wouldn’t consider this problem, because you have to remember: these comics - while collected into a full trade at the end of their run - still had to be printed monthly or bi-monthly. They relied on those sales, and it would be foolish not to take into consideration the people who are going to pick up issue 2, 10, or 30, because they missed a month at the stands. Think of it like this: Avatar had three seasons, each about 20 episodes. The series had an overarching storyline, which was broken down into a season-long storyline, and then broken down again into an episode-long storyline. It’s _super_ helpful to you, the viewer, to start at the beginning, but you may not have had that option at the time of televised viewing due to scheduling. You may not have started watching until the end of season 1. And if the show is too dense and tied up in its own continuity, you’re not going to know what’s going on, and you will have no interest in watching the season again when it starts from episode one on reruns. That means you probably won’t want to buy the first volume of DVDs, when Nickelodeon releases them. They just lost a potential customer, because they couldn’t find a way to tell their episodic story in a way that made it easy to get into even in the late game. Comics are no different; why do you think the trades exist? Because people who pick up an issue, and like the story, will want to have the entire story. If your graphic novel can’t get people’s attention, they’re not going to want to buy the trade.
@@Adorni a writer doesn't have to waste time explaining the story to people who arent starting at the beginning, the same logic applies to a television show. you seriously thinking it is a flaw for a writer to not account for ignorance is stupid
@@FloorKarpeting Right, so you’re clearly unfamiliar with the concept of the recap, or the intro- Let’s take Avatar: The Last Airbender. What exactly do you think that little spiel Katara gives in the opening of *every single episode* is? That’s the writers accounting for people’s ignorance, and giving the audience a brief primer: “Here’s the world, here’s the bad guys, these are the three main players, enjoy the episode.”
Your first time reading SAGA right? All those characters have a long story behind them, it's not just meant to be picked up in some random place. It's not a standard comicbook.
JayzOned C That is problem with trying to change the conversation from women's health and safety to women's rights. They push it to it's most extreme. This why younger Americans are more pro-life than their parents.
***** Fair enough. I agree too. The fetus is a human being but they shouldn't be granted full human rights from the moment of conception. You gain and lose rights as you age and before you have a nervous system you do not have the capability of pain and suffering, so ending your life does not cause harm to a conscious being.
Here is how I look at it. Some women are going to get abortions whether it's legal, or not. If it's illegal some of those women are going to die in backroom abortions. Making abortion outright illegal is counter-productive to the goal of protecting life. What I am against is the idea that an unborn fetus is nothing and can be treated as such. Abortion should always be treated as a serious and morally dubious decision that shouldn't be committed lightly and discouraged as much as possible. We discourage smoking yet it's still legal. What is really interesting about women who get abortions is many do it for the sake of the aborted as twisted as that may sound. They think that the child will live such a rough life it isn't worth living.
Yeah it's a complicated issue... you have to consider multiple factors and unless you are an ideologue who believes in one idea above all else it's difficult to create policies which suit everyone. The 'all abortions are murder and should be illegal' and ' all abortions are fine since it's the mothers body' crowds are ignoring legitimate arguments from both camps. The mother and the unborn should both be respected (both their rights and their health).
***** Yes, but you still gain rights as you age. The right to life doesn't exist from conception. Some rights are lost as you age such as the right to a free education so unless you view America as a tyrannical nation you are incorrect.
I'm sorry but I can't suspend my disbelief over this "there's this dead fetus inside me and I can't wait to get it out". That woman would be in extreme physical distress and about to die About one hour after the fetus dying.
Shawn Zamir FFXV I hate that excuse. Yes, suspension of disbelief is a thing but this comic still fails for two reasons. 1. Disbelief only covers the fantastical or things necessary to the story. 2. If your disbelief failed, it show poor story telling.
I think the issue is... well the comic may be weird, but the pregnancy is portrayed as "usual". After all, 8 months = third trimester here. So if they signal to the audience that _ is supposed to be typical, it makes sense for SMLA to then reject it for being atypical. If they wanted the audience to grasp that the pregnancy should also have disbelief suspended, then there should have been more signs of the divergence from audience knowledge & expectations.
COMEON in reality i heard of a 50yo woman inside of whom was found a featus dead & fossilised for DECADES, miscarried from a pregnancy she didnt even know about. Google those things.
1. How far along was said fetus? 2. It's not called an abortion to get a miscarriage fetus removed, it's called a D&C. All completely legal and necessary in many cases.
Is this the first Issue of SAGA you read? You can't just start a story in the middle. Hazel is the only known hybrid of the two races. A love child in a war torn universe. It's not common.
From a logistical standpoint, regardless of your beliefs, why do almost entirely men get to decide abortive rights? Would men let women decide vasectomy access or viagra legality? I just don't understand how people justify that part of it, it feels like the opposite of a democracy.
I really never found this series to be an "sjw book", it has a left leaning slant, but I felt it avoided all the major pitfalls, there are hot ladies, there are masculine dudes, they don't avoid sexualization, and they actually cover right end talking points as well. In fact I kind of felt like the book was advocating a moderate stance since each of the two races essentially embody the left and the right, and the main characters desert both sides.
@@christophernuzzi2780 I am well behind, I made it til about the prison issues, so maybe issue 20-29? I'm honestly not sure. If it got woke, then that's a shame.
To be fair the premise is the whole series was always centered around social issues. I don't have a problem with the exploration of things like abortion, even if it has a slant in one way; as long as it doesn't feel forced in, or incongruous with the story. The problem isn't progressive views, the problem is forcing them into every story even when it makes no sense.
Oh god yes. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!! I am not even against abortion as something a society need but Abortion Town? Abortion should be the absolutely last step and nothing else.
I'm so so tired of agendas. Have you read "Blankets? " it's the first graphic novel that isn't about some weird experience or depressing story or advocating social justice values.... I'm so tired of sjw in my comics, that's one reason I started writing my own. I loved the art in gumballs, so simple and direct, but it was all about a trans person. My life does notrevolve around my gender. And even if it did, I read comics to escape reality. ... jeeze
Don't read Saga if you can't take intentionally offensive humor... I love offensive humor, and a good family drama... Therefore I love Saga.. Have to start from the beginning though to have any idea about the characters or what's going on..
It's interesting watching you pull this apart. You are super consistent in your views which is good to see. If someone puts out something original, it deserves the audience it draws. But that questionnaire at the end is bat shit crazy.
Hm I don't know man, I am not with you on this one. Saga as a whole is a fun ride, with or without the politics. Besides making an SJW aimed comic book when it's an original work is far more acceptable than shoving it into a preexisting character or franchise where it doesn't fit like Marvel.
iSultan Sultangaliev he stated that the books fulfills it's purpose of appealing to specific opinions with no diversifying arguments and I think he would agree with what you said. personally I think this is lazy and reinforces bigotry and narrow-minded thoughts but the story does it's job I guess.
Why is the review of Saga not based on the first volume? This review is very annoying. Very very annoying. You are jumping on a comic you have no idea of the plot and the already established world. This review is just too stupid, I swear
The only abortion comic I want read about is Thanos having to travel back in time to prevent his own abortion by killing the doctor then giving birth to himself.
I really like your videos but I've got to say, I hate when you call normal looking men 'really really feminine'. As far as I (a hetero woman) can see there's literally nothing feminine about the goat guy. Maybe I'm being nitpicky but it's just been bothering me a lot.
dcpack Take your moral posturing elsewhere. I'm not interested in having an abortion debate on a video criticising the politicization of certain comics. This is RUclips. No one cares what you or I think.
I haven't read that far yet, but I'm pretty sure they were going for "so blatantly absurd and obscene it's funny" kinda like a watered down Garth Ennis. Keep in mind the opening panel for the entire series is a woman giving birth and screaming about how it feels like shes taking an enormous shit. At that point you really can't take anything seriously.
How do you start reading a book in the 43rd chapter and assume you know everything that happened before. If you read the whole series you would understand why things are happening the way they are. It literally says “chapter” on the cover. Also if you read the first 42 you would know she is the first child to be born between the two species.
A lot of the things you dislike about this are the reasons I do like Saga. This isn't the best issue in the series, but it does show that it has complex characters. Yes, there are LGBTQIA+ characters, just like there are straight characters and characters with different political and moral beliefs. But none of them are untouchable. None are perfect. Saga is weird. That's why I love it.
Just fwy guys the baby was already dead. She took a blast at the previous issue. She was too far along to expell the dead fetus and was gonna die if were not to remove it.
So. I just read this comic up to this point. And it was actually pretty good. "ABORTION TOWN" is about a hundred times more surreal than any of the other stuff in this comic.
you're a great dude. i love how you speak on things you may not agree with but don't do it in a condescending way, i wish more people did that.. it's why i keep coming back to watch everyday and i actually value your opinion.
Thanks for reviewing this. The comic's survey at the end kills me. My eyes started watering when you we went "WTH" at the 'Where do you fall on the Kinsey scale of sexuality' question. I'm not an avid comic buyer (just some first Young Avengers stuff), and I love your content.
Thanks for reviewing! I LOVE LOVE Saga. I can't explain why, nothing really happens and its a slow moving story but I just connect with it. Im also probably not their target demographic. I'm a heterosexual white male who could careless about SJW and politics in general. I read comics because I find it fun and Saga is so weird and interesting with their cast of odd characters its awsome! I'd recommend starting from issue 1 but Im not sure if you'd find joy in it. Part of the appeal is seeing the characters grow and change overtime.
Despite myself and after all the raving I'd seen online I started reading it and apart form the odd eye roll here and there it was incredibly engaging and was activley preparing to put money down to buy the entire run so far. Until the authour decided that the Hilary Clinton quote about women suffering the most in w@r and having to do most of the work put me right off. What a prretentious, pandering F***wit. REALLY??? Mr B.K Vaughn, REALLY?? sigh. suffice to say I won't be paying for said books and while I know that this will have absolutely no impact on the author or publisher it will make me feel better knowing I gave them nothing when I previously would have.
I was once made fun of by actual adults for how I pronounce Ex Machina, so it was very validating to hear you pronounce it the same way as me. I read the first two trades of Saga and didn't find anything this preachy, and while it was over-the-top I thought it was an enjoyable comic, though I didn't understand why it was so universally critically acclaimed. Felt like it was just shocking for the sake of being shocking. Been meaning to catch up with the rest of it sometime but maybe not anymore haha. and yesss, glad to see you're doing Champions, will definitely watch that one. XD
It was the guy with the TV set for a head that turned me off. Mind you, that was back in issue 1. Once I saw that, I knew I was done. I was not going to continue. I like comics because you can do anything with them, but I have my limits. A guy with a TV set for a head (who I think was having gay sex at the time) is apparently my limit.
Is the TV head guy suppose to be an overarching hipster allegory for the media or is it just a TV head people? I've seen designs like that in other media (games, anime/manga) and while not an allegory for mass media there, I wouldn't put it past this comic to portray such a bland predictable symbol.
I think my problem with it was just that it was way too far into the territory for 'weird for the sake of weird.' I think I must have subconsciously thought something like, 'if they're already trying this hard, than what the heck is the rest of the book going to be like?' This video causes me to believe that I made the right choice.
I'm a pro-life, Donald Trump loving guy, and I really love saga. I guess I just try to look past a lot of the stuff, but then I'm only on chapter 21 right now, so I don't know how it goes on. I just really love the art style and the alien stuff I guess. haha
And Im an atheist who really enjoys Michelangelo paintings. For this so called reviewer Michelangelo paintings are probably also only for Christian echochamber. The rest of us who are grown ups have no problem with the fact that artists can have their own views that show in their art. Saga's story is interesting, characters are great, imagination is wild, art is awesome, whats not to like. All these talks about echochamber just shows that it's this guy who's too afraid to leave his own echochamber and read a different story.
Ha. Two things about that cover strike me. 1. I feel like reaching for a revolver holstered on your left side with your left hand would be really weird and awkward. 2. The zebra is the Fruit Stripe zebra, which is actually pretty funny.
in saga's defense, the first few issues do kind of suck. The story needed the first few issues to establish the main characters. If anything, read a synopsis for the first volume and start on the second
Roy Shantzis I don't think saga is for me. I liked Y the last man and ex machina but this felt like artsy fartsy weird for the sake of weird and not story. Maybe down the road I will give it another shot.
My niece and I trade different recommendations on books to read and discuss. I want to encourage her to read. I recommended "Berserk" & she recommended this... This is one of the hardest things I've ever had to read in my life. Its absolutely terrible. I've gotten to the latest volume and I simply can't continue. Its such a struggle. Luckily after my niece read "Berserk" she was hooked on Manga and never looked back; therefore, I don't have to read this series anymore (thank God). Its literally torture reading this series. Volumes 1 and 2 were so hard to get through. They were so BAD. Now she wats to read "coiling dragon" (Panlong), a Xianxia type novel with me. I'm hoping its not like this.
Saga is weird for me. Overall, I don't really like it for the heavy-handed politics throughout but there's just enough "Oh, that's kind of a neat idea" in each issue that keeps me coming back.
Good review. Just came across your channel and have begun to binge watch. Keep it up! Looking forward to more videos. Saga (personally) has really derailed, both in purpose and necessity. The first few volumes had all the right beats, and a lot of the moments they were awarded for, felt genuine. As odd as this sounds, but the book finally died along with The Brand. Oh the irony.
There's a couple reviewers I watch on here that swear by this series and I was actually considering picking it up. I'm so glad I saw this video. Now I don't have to waste my money. Thank you.
I'm a fan of Saga, and far as "abortion town" goes, it was fine for the comic. Saga has always been really over the top, so as an avid reader it just wasn't a big deal. Although this was the first time I noticed the comic being overtly/obviously political, which I didn't care for.
LOL...it was super politcal from volume 1...and it dug deeper the more your read. You must of not been paying attention...with the whole cultural war that was going on...
Yeah, I thought about it and your probably right. I knew it was obviously political within the context of the comic's world. But when I look at a [fictional] story I seldom think about how it relates or alludes to the real world. I just take the narrative as it is, and focus on the lore. Not sure if I should try and grow out of it, but I feel like it would cause me not to be able to enjoy stories as much.
Saga has some interesting moments and characters, this wasn't the best issue to reflect the whole series, but I can't really disagree with what you said all that much. The art is fantastic and if the politics weren't vomited down your throat so often I think this would have a larger audience. It was pretty ballsy of them to make the trans character one of the most revolting characters put in a book.
Most people here tends to just take Diversity & Comics words for granted. Mostly because he is right like 70-90% of the time, while Saga will seem like a generic SJW comic if read while looking specifically for things that confirms the belief.
I physically cringed when you showed the first page; ABORTION TOWN No. Just. No. Though I admit I liked the rainbow zebras. Made me think of chewing gum lol
Honestly it wasn't like this when I started reading it. Still love what I've read of it, but this part... nah. The politics infiltrated again in what I love. It's actually more tragic for me since I was there since issue 5 for Saga than it's for you reading it for the first time. Starting with this issue was a very bad idea though, the beginning is much better, no politics.
I remember enjoying this series at some point, back when it was about the couple trying to survive and protect their baby. Of course, looking back, it was always flawed, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't this bad. Honestly, after seeing this, I'm kinda glad I dropped it.
well I mean I've been able to enjoy the saga comics till this point even if I dont agree with what they say, I still enjoyed its plot and characters but this specific issue went a bit overboard with their ideologies. I'm just hoping the rest if this volume won't be like this since im a saga fan myself. But maybe this is saga jumping the shark though
You triggered me bro. love yor videos, I love saga but you're wrong, its not an echo chamber there are lots of sympathetic characters in this comic with wide ranges of political and ethical beliefs, I feel like you havent actually read much of it
I genuinely try to be respectful to artist discourse about the comics medium, but this was embarrassingly unprofessional. For starters this is a heavily serialized story, so reviewing form this point is absurd, its like watching return of the Jedi first before seeming a new hope. You barley have any context about the book, Secondary if you had done your research, you should of known this book is taboo breaking. An issue of this got banned on the apple stores because of of the content in it. This book does not fuck around. Toughen up snowflake. Thirdly this arc actually explored the complexities of abortion in a fascinating way, with the literal ghost of Alana's dead child actually becomes a character, that becomes a temporary supernatural haunting that's slowly killing her. Believe me, the movement when the child that could of been actually dies (off panel) is one of the most tension filled and heartbreaking moments in all of comics, and really underlines how physically and emotionally difficult (but sometimes necessary) it is for some people. Bottom line, if your going to critique a indie comic, read an arc, not an issue, because it is not going to be holly representative the work.
Welp, I guess this comicbook just isn't the kind of your story you can enjoy when watching it through a "Anti SJW lens". Since although it does have a pretty diverse and likeable cast as well as an interesting story (with actual char development), it does still have many elements of a typical "sjw" comic. What makes this story engaging is that it makes the viewer care for the character. One gets to see their hopes and dreams, as well as their greater fears. One gets to see their journey to an uncertain goal, and basically know the characters as they grow. The messages about diversity and pro-life might be loud and clear, and also pretty one-sided if one stops to think about it, but in the end the highlight comes from the characters and their struggles. So, if one just skips to some point of the story with no connection to the characters, with the knowledge limited to a quick summary. Generalize all of their conflicts as something that either happens more commonly than they make it seem, or too rare to be worth mentioned as an occurring problem. And for the most part comparing the differences and similarities the setting has to our world, with the idea that its bad if its message isn't politically neutral...... Then one obviously wont be able to enjoy this series. Saga has its issues and could definitely be better in some areas.... But its not a shit book that many here seem to think, while a big deal of the negativity comes from the tired anti-sjw persona that has become allergic of anything resembling sjw (which Saga, despite its good parts, sadly does).
Even as someone who has enjoyed most of the series, and I do really like it. This issue was a bit preachy. I get the idea behind it. but god damn i don't need to be beat over the head with it. Especially with how strong an ending the last arc ended with. this just felt kind of "eh" in comparison. I hope the next issue gets better.
i felt like when the trans alien person thing snapped at the little kid for asking a little kid question, it wasn't talking to the kid, it was preaching at the audience. another one of those soapbox for the writer moments. i can't imagine anyone talking like that to a kid
You read issue 40-something of a long running high concept series and are surprised it doesn't make sense? Dude, that's like picking up Game of Thrones from page 672 of book 5. No wonder you're lost XD.
Oh god, I can't believe I bought this book, I was so excited "A sci-fi western? I love sci-fi and westerns! This really is going to be my thing!" And then I open the first page and see the edgiest joke on the book... god... what a waste of money...
Dont worry man. This happens all the time with popular anime. Objectively theyre overdone stories with one dimensional characters full of annoying tropes most of the time. Just because its popular doesnt mean you cant dissect it. Not that I dislike Saga but just keep doing what you're doing.
White Pride honestly it isn't, this is probably the worst issue. It is left leaning, sure, but most of the character criticisms here are from picking this up at issue 43 and not knowing any of the characters. The man is manly as fuck, the woman is a former soldier so it makes sense to have shorter hair and an assertive personality, and so forth. Overall though I like it and I hate SJW garbage, I really don't think this is an SJW comic. The trans character has always been a bitch, trans or not, so this isn't really being preachy, it just speaks to how much of a bitch she is as a character.
It seems to be very common nowadays to create these super advanced worlds/universes where, for no reason at all, homosexuals and trans people are regarded as so unusual that they get talked about as if there is still prejudice against them. Presumably, these characters are traveling in a galaxy filled with all sorts of weird alien species, some of whom have different genders, so you'd think everyone would be used to it.
I never thought I'd have to tell somebody that they need to read comics from the beginning. You spend so much time preoccupied that someone wrote something (*gasp*) l i b e r a l that you miss key plot elements. You don't need to like the work, but if you don't try to read it on it's own terms of course it's going to sound like nonsense. Give it the time it deserves.
I've only got the first 5 volumes of the series and I intend to continue reading it... this review confused me a little because, from my experience with these comics, there's a lot of irony revolving this story and I also don't quite understand why the enphasis on the gay zebras...
This isn't a documentary. The fact the characters have had a child together is part of the story. Arguing with that idea is like sayign superpowers are unrealistic. The idea is the characters are soldiers from opposing sides in a war. Again, it's not a documentary.
I was a fan of the Saga comics, but I am really behind. It used to have good stories and a lot of grey morality, apparently that has ended and now it sucks.
It's not an abortion if the baby passed before birth, it's called D&C. Totally different reasons/purposes/pain. This book is a lie and the most cringe worthy book I've ever seen.
Huh. I actually liked Saga, and never noticed this. Well, I did get tired of it and stopped checking it out from the library before I could get to chapter 43. But now I wonder if the other volumes were an echo chamber too.
I can see the first page of this book being used to defend a pro-life posture. It's perfect in semiotic terms (which is particularly odd, considering the effect the author wanted was the exact opposite). And I'm not even talking about the ethical debate. P.S.: LOVED Ex Machina! Gotta go for a second read of it!
At the beginning of this video, I thought, perhaps this will be a interesting crtique of a series I enjoy. Nope, you just took one chapter out of context and warped it, so you could make it an attack on your beliefs, and can be a victim. You make your ignorance abundently clear, by calling Marko feminine all the time (spoiler: if you read the series, he's not). Let's skip past some of the more absurd complaints like, if a horse is colorful it's gay, and get to the praticulary warped comments. Petrichor's cultural does not "celebrate abortion", they recognize the strength of a women who have experienced a miscarriage. Alana fell in a terrible accident while fleeing a battle, causing the death of her unborn child. She didn't just want an abortion cause it's fun. So your point is women who have miscarriages, should be hated? Like why? That was definitely the worst part of the review. But you did get one thing right, this comic is incredibly popular. Even your out of context, anti LGBTQ rant, won't effect sales. Have fun being victimized by this scary book though.
Pro tip: Most non-superhero and Indie comics are one long story, if you start reading at part 24 you're going to have a bad time.
+Fernando Giubilei I'm going to do a video on this tomorrow

It's impossible to show rainbows nowadays without people assuming its a LGBT metaphor.
Because in comics there wouldn't be any other meaning
Sadly, there's no pot of gold anymore in the end of that rainbow, just full of ectoplasms.
The Hippies started the rainbow🌈 culture in the 60s

I'm pro choice but thinking that third trimester abortions are ethical is insane.
JayzOned C That is problem with trying to change the conversation from women's health and safety to women's rights. They push it to it's most extreme. This why younger Americans are more pro-life than their parents.

Spiciest Meme Lord Alec in a world where owls talk and a person has a tv for a head the logic behind a dead fetus is where you draw the line?
Why on earth are you starting this book on chapter 43?
Is this the first Issue of SAGA you read? You can't just start a story in the middle.
Hazel is the only known hybrid of the two races. A love child in a war torn universe. It's not common.
The culture war rages on....
Indeed.
From a logistical standpoint, regardless of your beliefs, why do almost entirely men get to decide abortive rights? Would men let women decide vasectomy access or viagra legality? I just don't understand how people justify that part of it, it feels like the opposite of a democracy.
But even if abortion werent a gendered issue - why do women have such a disproportional say in the deciding of its legality?
Roy Shantzis Women vote for those men. it is the definition of democracy
is that based off your extensive research of women voting demographics, or did you just pull that tidbit of info out your buttock?
I really never found this series to be an "sjw book", it has a left leaning slant, but I felt it avoided all the major pitfalls, there are hot ladies, there are masculine dudes, they don't avoid sexualization, and they actually cover right end talking points as well. In fact I kind of felt like the book was advocating a moderate stance since each of the two races essentially embody the left and the right, and the main characters desert both sides.
I guess you didn't read the issue with the "Abortion Town" where men aren't even allowed to enter.
That first page just nope
nope
nope
nope
NOPE
Barney TheDinosaur read your comment before seeing it, scrolled down and then scrolled back up when I saw it to tell you I understand.
Error 404 - comment broke
And even if it did, I read comics to escape reality. ... jeeze
for me the first page was just "lolwut"
but i guess im naive, as i didnt expect it to immediately become so dumb
Don't read Saga if you can't take intentionally offensive humor... I love offensive humor, and a good family drama... Therefore I love Saga.. Have to start from the beginning though to have any idea about the characters or what's going on..
I've tried to give Saga a chance several different times but i could never understand what was going on.
doomed huh what about it is confusing? Its crazy but pretty straight forward
doomed huh buy the volumes
doomed huh of all of the criticisms you could have made you went for that one? It's pretty straightforward.
it's an extended metaphor for race relations and geopolitics on earth. that's about all you need to know
Roy Shantzis I think it would work if it just wasn't mepthors and symbolism and actually had some balls to criticize with facts and shit.
4:17 - "I just *know* these two horses are gay... zebras."
- Diversity & Comics
I'm dyin' lmao, great stuff bro :D
It's interesting watching you pull this apart. You are super consistent in your views which is good to see. If someone puts out something original, it deserves the audience it draws. But that questionnaire at the end is bat shit crazy.
Hm I don't know man, I am not with you on this one. Saga as a whole is a fun ride, with or without the politics. Besides making an SJW aimed comic book when it's an original work is far more acceptable than shoving it into a preexisting character or franchise where it doesn't fit like Marvel.
iSultan Sultangaliev
he stated that the books fulfills it's purpose of appealing to specific opinions with no diversifying arguments and I think he would agree with what you said. personally I think this is lazy and reinforces bigotry and narrow-minded thoughts but the story does it's job I guess.
iSultan Sultangaliev I bet catholics would still put her in jail tho
Why is the review of Saga not based on the first volume? This review is very annoying. Very very annoying. You are jumping on a comic you have no idea of the plot and the already established world. This review is just too stupid, I swear
I read the first book of Saga it was all this exact same nonsense from day one. I did not read the second book.
you can tell from any point in a story if it's absolute shit, this is clearly that.
your comment makes me think you aren't familiar with this channel
I bought the first compendium from my local shop and gave it back today
The only abortion comic I want read about is Thanos having to travel back in time to prevent his own abortion by killing the doctor then giving birth to himself.
I really like your videos but I've got to say, I hate when you call normal looking men 'really really feminine'. As far as I (a hetero woman) can see there's literally nothing feminine about the goat guy. Maybe I'm being nitpicky but it's just been bothering me a lot.
*sees first page*
Ah....... *nods, closes video, screams internally*
Not even pro-life and even I'm triggered by that Abortion Town bullshit.
read the story and find out why shes there in the first place then you wont be so judgemental about it
Aaron Hapgood The name of the town alone is stupid to me. Devoid of context, it just sounds dumb.
How skewed are you when you gleefully state you are not PRO-LIFE . Because killing things is a great solution.
dcpack Take your moral posturing elsewhere.
Had to subscribed. I hope every comic company someday becomes very aware of your videos

"Our comic wasn't ripped by Diversity & Comics! Buy Now!"
Can we please just start calling it Q+ Please tell your friends Q+ is less ridiculous and it is easier to say & type
Just fwy guys the baby was already dead. She took a blast at the previous issue. She was too far along to expell the dead fetus and was gonna die if were not to remove it.
Welcome to Abortion Town?
That's so cringy... What? Whhhhhat? what even
Jeremy Main this screams satire to me.
If you'd bothered to actually read the comic you'd know they perform illegal abortion in Abortion town, it's not presented as something good
Still a stupid name though, it's like if there was a town in which you could buy illegal drugs and call it "Drug Town" wtf?
snark567 that’s the point ...
The point is for the name to be stupid?
To be fair the crossbreed babies of the two species are stillborn. That is why they are technically rare.
I swear this book makes sense, but I can see how it's not for everyone. It's got a ton of dead baby humor.
Huh. Ironic bit of wording there. Completely unintentional btw.
So. I just read this comic up to this point. And it was actually pretty good. "ABORTION TOWN" is about a hundred times more surreal than any of the other stuff in this comic.
Dude you cant judge a comics according to its forty - third issue.
you're a great dude. i love how you speak on things you may not agree with but don't do it in a condescending way, i wish more people did that.. it's why i keep coming back to watch everyday and i actually value your opinion.
+ROCCOTHEGREAT
Thanks!
"To be Continued" DON't YOU THREATEN ME COMIC XD
That survey at the end is like some kind of experimental psychological exam to find out how likely a person is to murder their entire family
You have my respect for this man, excellent vid. Consider me subscribed.

Thanks for the sub!
XD
" I just know these two horses are gay."
DIversity & Comics : 2017
Awesome quote i laughed my ass off when you said this. lol
You have to read from the beginning. You can’t make assumptions based on the 43rd chapter.......
"Well ain't this place a geographical oddity! Two weeks from everywhere!"
They're a sentient race of robots.
I like the tv head idea but this comic makes it seem unappealing
I think my problem with it was just that it was way too far into the territory for 'weird for the sake of weird.' I think I must have subconsciously thought something like, 'if they're already trying this hard, than what the heck is the rest of the book going to be like?' This video causes me to believe that I made the right choice.
Chris McWilliams he is a robot, the prince of a race of robots who can shapeshift every part of their body but the screen
wasn't the rainbow zebra a mascot for juicy fruit in the 90's or something like that?
I cant believe you didn't rip it!
ive heard of heavy handed but this is like full on like, a slap across the face with a uranium bar
That guy with the television head gave me immediate flashbacks to the flathead empurata victims from the Functionist Universe.
or FLCL.
I had an argument with a young woman who had the opinion that human fetus is not a human.Funny thing is that she was negative about a feminist rally
Ha. Two things about that cover strike me. 1. I feel like reaching for a revolver holstered on your left side with your left hand would be really weird and awkward. 2. The zebra is the Fruit Stripe zebra, which is actually pretty funny.
wasn't there a rainbow zebra in some gum brand from the 90's?
MarcD Sieb lmao ya fruit striped
MarcD Sieb It's still around too. It's my favorite gum brand.
l heard so much praise for this book. Loved ex machina . But I read the first issue and it sucked. couldn't even finish it.
in saga's defense, the first few issues do kind of suck.
I was about to ask someone if this comares to Y the Last Man and (BKV) Runaways since I linked both of those. There's my answer, I guess.
I felt the same. It gets better a few issues in and stays good.
I read a few of the first few issues because I liked the idea of a war between magic and technology, I fell out of it pretty quick.
Those weird tv head characters I see all the time are the bane of my existence
Although this was the first time I noticed the comic being overtly/obviously political, which I didn't care for.
bcdcool94 Salamander.
LOL...it was super politcal from volume 1...and it dug deeper the more your read. You must of not been paying attention...with the whole cultural war that was going on...
The best chapter
Yeah, I thought about it and your probably right. I knew it was obviously political within the context of the comic's world. But when I look at a [fictional] story I seldom think about how it relates or alludes to the real world. I just take the narrative as it is, and focus on the lore.
Not sure if I should try and grow out of it, but I feel like it would cause me not to be able to enjoy stories as much.
You seem like a chaos fan though, judging from your profile picture.
I'm all for people having and expressing their opinions, but how many of the people who wrote comments about this comic actually read it?...
Most people here tends to just take Diversity & Comics words for granted. Mostly because he is right like 70-90% of the time, while Saga will seem like a generic SJW comic if read while looking specifically for things that confirms the belief.
I've read every issue. So while my opinion is no more important than others' opinions, it certainly is an informed opinion.
I physically cringed when you showed the first page; ABORTION TOWN
No. Just. No.
Though I admit I liked the rainbow zebras. Made me think of chewing gum lol
While Saga isn't for me I wasn't offended by it like you seem to be. I also started from issue 1 so that probably helped.
If you want to read a good sci-fi/western i suggest Copperhead or Serenity (Takes place after the tv show Firefly)
Any good sci-fi/pirate themed stuff?
Never really cared much for the heavy handed western theme in serenity/firefly.
This is the only piece of media in the past 5 years that legitimately made me stop and say "what the fuck" out loud.
It was definitely a planned thing for him to start at this part. Who starts a comic at chapter 43????
Saga always had politics
We you are beaten and brought low....the BATMAN has no choice,...but to break,
...
...or to rise as the DARK KNIGHT.^^
GO ROCKY!
After watching this video, I feel like I need a shower.
I remember enjoying this series at some point, back when it was about the couple trying to survive and protect their baby. Of course, looking back, it was always flawed, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't this bad. Honestly, after seeing this, I'm kinda glad I dropped it.
The saddest moment of my life? Buying this comic!
well I mean I've been able to enjoy the saga comics till this point even if I dont agree with what they say, I still enjoyed its plot and characters but this specific issue went a bit overboard with their ideologies. I'm just hoping the rest if this volume won't be like this since im a saga fan myself. But maybe this is saga jumping the shark though
You triggered me bro. love yor videos, I love saga but you're wrong, its not an echo chamber there are lots of sympathetic characters in this comic with wide ranges of political and ethical beliefs, I feel like you havent actually read much of it
I remember when this comic used to be really good, Volumes 1 - 5 were awesome, it only took 1 volume to fuck it all up...
Oddly enough it was volume 5 that pissed me off enough to drop it
"What was the saddest moment of your life?"
reading this book
I have to say that this is an L take if I've ever heard one
Two million points for the John Carter of Mars reference.
ugh. this just makes me feel bad that I actually enjoyed the first volume of the series when I read it a couple weeks ago...
Subscribed from Jamaica! Good content and keep it up.

Thanks for the sub
i actually like Saga btw lol
This really is going to be my thing!"
And then I open the first page and see the edgiest joke on the book... god... what a waste of money...
Dont worry man. This happens all the time with popular anime. Objectively theyre overdone stories with one dimensional characters full of annoying tropes most of the time. Just because its popular doesnt mean you cant dissect it. Not that I dislike Saga but just keep doing what you're doing.
I've heard of SAGA, but I never knew that it was like this
White Pride honestly it isn't, this is probably the worst issue.
Thanks for reviewing this book. I've had a number of people tell me I should read it. And now I know not to bother. Thanks.
I've only got the first 5 volumes of the series and I intend to continue reading it... this review confused me a little because, from my experience with these comics, there's a lot of irony revolving this story and I also don't quite understand why the enphasis on the gay zebras...
That First Page... Just; Just WHY ?!
Whyyyy ?
Saga had me riveted! But, yeah the second time reading it... 😣
Okay. I actually LIKED this series despite some of the bullshit it tries to force down your throat, but this. This is going too far.
I’m watching this in 2020, should I be surprised that I’ve never heard of this critically acclaimed and financial success of a comic?
As soon as you said "It identifies as a rhinoceros" I had to thumb up this video no matter what. Cackling laughter.
" What are these people HIGH!?!?!"
I'm only at 1:09 in the video, but I had to stop and ask, Is that character riding the zebra from Fruit Stripe gum?
