The train in Hugo also shared the number 721 with its real-life counterpart. I think there's also a reference to the newsstand lady who passed away during the crash scene, but it might be far fetched. The train is seen crashing through a newsstand inside the station, but before it does that there's a woman walking by it on the other side. A man tackles her out of the path of the train and saves her. Edit: It was some random guy that was saved nevermind. Ignore everything I just said before other than the train number.
Alright I know no-one asked and this new presentation of Dark 5 is good but I miss the music and written text. You have to be congratulated on always having awesome and different music for every video too. Anyways :)
well done, as always, and congrats on 2.2 million subs! PS, the injured "firefighter" if i'm not mistaken was actually the crewman called a "fireman" who feeds coal into the fire.
Yep, in Britain, a "fireman" can either be someone who stokes a fire or puts one out. In the USA, a "fireman" is a "firefighter"; one who stokes a fire is a "stoker"
I miss the days when TTTE actually had accidents based off of real events. This is one of those darker ones that I love. And considering that I'm a veteran Thomas fan, all of this makes scenes. Except this happened to Gordon (minus the coaches). Thomas doesn't have to be in everything. He didn't even had a line in the season five episode.
This was not unlike the GG-1 electric locomotive #4876 that crashed through the floor of Union Station in Washington, DC in January 1953. However that accident was due to a mechanical failure and design flaw that caused the air brakes on most of the train to fail. The engineer was not at fault and did everything possible to try to stop the train and give warning that the train was out of control. Fortunately no one was killed in that accident. The GG-1 was cut into sections, sent to the PRR Altoona Works, and reassembled and served the railroad for many years afterwards and still exists today.
Dark 5, PLEASE PLEASE go back to the old format with moody music and text instead of narration. I know some people prefer narration but you can keep doing that on dark docs. Please read the comments and see how many of us are really disappointed.

I know it's a change from what we know, but I quite enjoy hearing your voice. It has a very nice tone to it, very calming to listen to. Also, I'm quite impressed with your pronunciation of French words, I'm sure my French friends would agree. I for one welcome this change. Keep making these awesome videos, man.
And then there was trouble. As Gordon approached the new station, neither the driver or fireman could apply his brakes. The driver reduced steam but Gordon was still going too fast. (Gordon then proceeds to run straight through the station and crash through the wall)
1) no air bags, it's 1895!! 2) what about the momentum? Those cars combined probably weighed at least 200 tons, so if the object in front suddenly stops, what is going to happen to the other 200 tons behind, still moving at speed?
On October 22nd the Paris express train accident after carry 71 passengers the conductor wants go faster the locomotive hit the station building many horse wagons come to rescue and after the last accident in the France
Westinghouse air brakes are designed to be fail-safe. Westinghouse air brakes use a reduction of air pressure to apply braking pressure, in a failure of the braking system itself would result in the brakes being applied and stopping the train. Also in the case of unintended de-coupling, the de-coupled cars would have their brakes applied due to loss of air pressure in the braking system. This design (with modern improvements) is still used in some trains today. Failure of Westinghouse air brakes causes the brakes to be applied, stopping the train. Saying that they failed in this case is incredibly erroneous. In most sources I have read on this derailment, it is commonly stated that the air brakes failed to stop the train in time due to it's much higher speed entering the station and NOT that the air brakes failed to engage at all, which your statement seemed to imply.
Westinghouse type brakes are also used on some trucks. They will fail if you use up the air stored in the compressed air reservoirs faster than you replenish it. That's how you get runaways, and why there are runaway truck ramps on roads with big hills. A competent operator will not let this happen. Also, the brakes can fail if you foolishly close the wrong valves, as happened in the similar 1953 crash of a Pennsylvania Railroad train into Union Station in Washington DC.
@@RCAvhstape Those don't sound like Westinghouse air brakes at all, a loss of pressure should engage the brakes. That's the fail-safe of Westinghouse air brakes. What you describe is a straight-air brake, which uses the compressed air to engage the brakes. Westinghouse brakes use compressed air to keep the brakes disengaged.
@@LoRdLoSs1337 Yes, but they also use compressed air stored in reservoirs to engage the brakes and push the shoes against the wheels. Those reservoirs are replenished by the same air which disengages the brakes. So a sudden loss of air pressure in the train pipe will cause the brakes to engage, but repeatedly using the brakes hard without giving them time to replenish will result in a loss of braking action.
@@RCAvhstape It seems I have misunderstood the system, thought the brakes were spring loaded hence why I thought no air pressure was required to apply the brakes. Thanks for taking the time to correct me. In retrospect though, wouldn't it be better if they were spring loaded? At the least, it would be a simpler design.
