This is such a cope argument. How hard something is to do has nothing to do with how powerful it is allowed to be. You all love genji allegedly because he is so hard but as soon as you fail the first skill check of growing two brain cells to exploit any of moira weaknesses you want it to be made easier. Yawn. What if genji and moira 1v1, but genji has two brain cells and only shoots from outside of her range so he never takes damage. When you just look at raw numbers its misleading, yeah moira has 60 dps, if you have two brain cells to play around cover she tickles you for a fraction of that, stand near a health pack and her slow dps becomes impossible to die to, get literally any healing and she cant kill you since its not actually a 1v1, the range is extremely exploitable, etc. Its the most basic skill check
Maybe moira is over statted and should be nerfed or the fade during coal reverted, maybe genji is understatted since the global hp buffs / armor changes and needs changes to feel better to play. How hard either character is / whining because you failed skill checks is irrelevant to the convo. People act like they want the game to be more skilled but fail to realize if you nerf moira in this hypothetical situation where a 0 iq moira and genji brainlessly run at each other with no thought you arent making the game harder you are literally just making genji easier so that a 0 iq genji and 0 iq moira are equal. This argument is a walking contradiction, you act like you want skill based gameplay but you just want genji to be another moira - pick it and get results whether you deserve it or not. You arent rewarding skill because genji wins the interaction when two 0 iq players bash their heads into each other you just removed what made him skillful and turned him into moira with the illusion of skill.

I hate to inform you but this just not how the game works. If you play outside of Moira's 20M range, and try to poke her out, you are doing absolutely nothing as she dictates where fights occur, and in GM/Top 500, poking out a Moira at 20M away is the same as essentially being AFK as you're not actually contributing to the fight, however if you want to actually to do anything at all on Genji, then you MUST close the distance, which means the Moira will either kill you, or force you out.
This is not gold play that I'm talking about, this is in reference to GM.

I dont understand the obsession this team has with pick and win rates. Apex's wattson is notorious for being MID for years, yet she always has the highest win rate in the game. Thats because not that many people play her because shes mid, and her mains are usually demons so voila high win rates, yet nobody ever complains about wattson being oppresive. And thus, the devs have not touched her at all.
Seer and horizon used to be busted asf, but still the highest pickrates would always be wraith or octane who suck balls only because they're fun to play.

  • @icefyreyt
    @icefyreyt Месяц назад +1

This reminds me of War Thunder. The devs would look at statistics to determine whether or not to buff or nerf vehicles. The problem is that only really good players would play bad vehicles, giving them high win rates, while average/below average players would use overpowered vehicles almost exclusively, so bad vehicles kept getting nerfed and good vehicles kept getting buffed. Even worse, they tried to balance vehicles by increasing the cost to use them. This meant that to break even, player had to have a very high performance on those vehicles. Therefore, only really good players would play them, pumping up their win rate even more. Combine these two factors, and you would have terrible expensive vehicles that kept getting nerfed because of their high win rate, while over powered cheap vehicles kept getting buffed because of their low win rate.

If I'm picking Junker Queen or Ana or Echo during games, it's cause I think they're fun & satisfying to play. If I pick Venture or Kiriko or Mauga, we're probably losing and I'm going for the easy, safe I win choices that require less thought and effort to use.

Overall a very good video. Just one thing to clarify at the end. For overbuff a 10% pickrate does not mean the hero is in 10% of games. Pickrate on overbuff translates to a heroes slot out of the 5 on a team. So theoretically the max pickrate will be 100%/5 = 20%. So a 10% pickrate translates to a 50% effective usage rate meaning that hero is played in about 50% of matches. Also since Venture release overbuff has been bugged? Last month stats don't make sense where Winston for example has a .04% pickrate lol. Overbuff has had issues for a while and I really wish blizzard would just launch their own site for us to see instead of getting cherry pickrate stats from them every couple months.

Im surprised you didn't mention how bad balance/hero design also adversely affects WR/PR.
Brigitte released and has a famous story of a Bronze player climbing into GM/T500 games and stands to this day as one of the evidential proofs that Brig was OP and bad hero design on release.
Subsequently nerfing the hero into the fucking ground (they didn't at the time) would have resulted in a polar opposite WR to drag that player back to Bronze (where their true skill level was).
This means when a hero has an insane WR, that could be the result of horrendous balance being corrected and allowing high skilled players to climb to where their true rank is; the same is true for the opposite- where a hero with an insane low WR, would also be a result of correcting an extremely OP hero (such as the Brig example.)
In combination with WR being affected by your playtime on the hero during a match, you can be effectively losing a match on one hero- swap- and then win the match and it counts towards that heroes WR. Win-rate and Pick-rates cannot possibly ever be trusted when making balance decisions, even when they are far out of line. They are unreliable and should never be soley relied upon.
Final point; I agree that THIS Scoreboard should never have made it into the game and was one of (and continues to be) the biggest mistakes of the game. Eliminations, Damage, Healing are all easily inflated and have no indication of the outcome of the match outside of explicitly AFK throwers. Even Deaths have very little relevance to the outcome of a match (although more than the other stats even though thats not saying much.)

What ends up happening is that they buff strong nations that are recommended for new players because of their strength and break the balance.
Then they nerf weaker nations that are played by better players for the challenge/interest/uniqueness and these players will dragg the win-% up even if the nation is nerfed to the ground as they have an easy time abusing less experienced players' lack of knowledge.

    • @mentlegen3887
      @mentlegen3887 Месяц назад +4

but doesnt it discourage newer players from playing tougher dps characters like genji? You have to work so much harder to get the same offensive pressure if youre not hitting all your shots. Also, Moira players arent just standing still as well and are capable of using cover and complex strafing patterns, so a genji wont necessarily always be able to land enough shurikens in time and be forced to dash out early. Compare this to the dynamic between genji vs ana or genji vs baptiste (bap is broken with his frame 1 invincibility lamp but he still needs to land his shots to get the kill on genji).
i dont want moira to be weak by any means but i find it to be unhealthy from a casual perspective. Also having auto aim hinders moira from getting any moer significant buffs because you cant give a hero that gets easy value to many strong options

@@mentlegen3887 I'm kind of confused why you feel like this. Genji is a skillful character, any new player being able to pick him and get results directly contradicts that. From what I understad you are upset genji is not more like moira, that any random new player cant pick him and get results? Hard characters are supposed to be punishing and unrewarding when you are literally terrible at the game, thats kind of the whole point
"also is auto aim even good design? whats the purpose? for accessibility? Wouldnt it be possiblw for moira to still be fun without the ability to guarantee value at range?" Is it bad design? Whats the purpose of anything? Perhaps because the playstyle is fun to some people? I think the "purpose" of basic skill check characters is to teach people how the game works, aka that new genji player after feeding to a moira would learn "if i just stand 15m away she literally cant damage me and their team is playing 4v5 while their supp tries to focus me" The point of skill check characters is to give new players a way to learn the game. I don't see how its bad design either I think its good to have "skill check" characters that allow new players to compete with veterans it separates the skilled players from the unskilled who can pass the skill checks

@@mentlegen3887One, yes you have to work harder in exchange, you have direct impact on your time to kill and damage per second which allows for true play making ability. All the easier hero’s(not 76) do lack play making abilities (Moria, mercy and reaper). It a fair trained off.
Yes new player will gravitate towards a easier character at first( we all do, that how you learn), but once they get a grasp on the game they will notice they are losing due to the fact they don’t have utility. They will start playing higher skill hero’s with utility and get out of their comfort zone.
This is not just at you, but also the RUclipsr. It odd to use this outlier for this example. Moria simple ignore the ninja deflect, don’t have to really aim, which kinda negate the ninja mobility options to DODGE(dbza). Over all Moria counter the ninja. That like me saying dva suck and talk Zarya match up. Some hero simply counter other hero’s, that was the entire point of brig.

tldr; I see where you're coming from and moiras auto aim may not be the problem, but genjis low power level vs other dps is perfectly demonstrated in the genji moira interaction. I also yearn for more interactivity between characters in ow2.
Gonna be honest i think i have a greater issue with genji rather than moira since now that i think about it, only genji struggles against moira if youre not mechanically perfect, because his mediocre damage is dependant on being close and within moiras primary fire range. he also doesnt have a get out of jail free card like some of the other supports or dps characters do which means his engagements are super high commitment for lower reward compared to other characters, even with high time investment. Sojourn vs is moira is always just shoot until shes low+ fades and then railgun deletes her at long range with no risk to the sojourn.
below is a silly compliation of moderate to weak arguments in favour of something needing to change.
I dont want genji to be easier to get value from i adore the high skill ceiling characters of overwatch 2.
I simply find the matchup against moira utterly boring for most dps characters into her. It reduces the game from a balance of gamesense and mechanics to just mechanics alone. you would suggest that its okay for players to not ineteract with moira because they know they dont have the mechanics to beat her before the grasp kills them? I feel like its better to encourage instances of interactivity in overwatch. I want more instances in ow2 where the journey of growth is more interesting than "oh i cannot overcome this hurdle right now so i willl avoid it completely until i have trained in aim trainer for another 20hrs". fighting moira as genji puts a super heay emphasis on the less interesting part of overwatch - the mechanics - whilst the moira gets to ignore the less interesting part of overwatch.

@@mentlegen3887 thanks for explaining yourself a little more. and I see where you're coming from too.
"you would suggest that its okay for players to not ineteract with moira because they know they dont have the mechanics to beat her before the grasp kills them?" I dont think about "interactivity" I just see it as "strategy" Plan A doesnt work so you do something different, waste as much of her time as you can looking at you so their team gets no heals, you know you cant fight into a moira so go for somebody else, force her to come to you, maybe she has to waste fade because you went for someone else that she isnt in range to heal. And I guess I just see the "non interactivity" as an apparent part of the game in some way, like as genji you also wont want to be interacting with a reinhardt. its not that you cant sit there and break his shield slowly, its that you are more effective else where, on other targets, I see moira in the same way (in this matchup atleast most of my characters can handle moira better genji). on winston for example, there are just some characters that you are effective to sit beside and shoot at (widow, hanzo, mercy), at some characters you should hide from, waste their time, play cover, not fight them directly (mauga, brig). I never really thought if it as not interacting with them so I can see why it would be frustrating and it does feel frustrating when I think of fighting those characters I need to "not interact with" but I think thats an issue with the game overall more so than something specific of genji or moira (the non interactivity between certain characters). I dont really "suggest" it I "accept" it as part of the game and adapt or go play something else
"I dont want genji to be easier to get value from i adore the high skill ceiling characters of overwatch 2." I agree too and I think characters like moira and mercy would benefit from having a higher skill expression too. I'm just not really sure what it would look like and again I don't think its an issue of mercy or moira being too easy or not taking skill (I think its just true of the game in general that there is little skill expression the whole game is basically just counter swapping) and I just think its misguided to blame that on specific characters like moira or mercy being easy when easy characters are standard in all kinds of games and dont make it worse but on the other hand on overwatch even characters like genji dont feel like they have skill expression. it seems like an issue with the game rather than specific characters to me because its true of all characters pretty much regardless how hard they are
" I want more instances in ow2 where the journey of growth is more interesting than "oh i cannot overcome this hurdle right now so i willl avoid it completely until i have trained in aim trainer for another 20hrs"." I completely agree with this too its the main reason I dont care much for the game these days but I guess this is mostly from experience in other games, its not because easier characters exist that make the game feel like that. easy characters are necessary in a game. losing to them just makes you feel like you got out played fundamentally, if you out skilled them you would win, maybe in overwatch they are handled poorly but I think a lot of the issues and frustrations people express towards easy characters are just misguided.. like the things people say / complain about have nothing to do with how easy/hard the characters are its just a scape goat or excuse. I do completely agree with you the game just lacks interactivity and skill expression on the whole though and most of your feelings towards the game in general I agree with but I dont think the issue as being certain characters being too easy. Honestly the #1 issue I feel in the game right now is how oppressive counter swapping is. But again I think to say how easy or hard it is to play certain characters misses the point. If moira took more skill it would still feel bad to play into her as genji for example so its not that moira is "too easy" thats the problem, like I just dont buy that if they removed the auto aim genji would suddenly feel better in any way at all. if aything they woud compensate her with damage or range and against a skilled moira the problems would just be amplified. For a lot of reasons Ithink the focus on "low skill characters" in this community is misguided

Bring back his one shot or make him projectile mccre don’t have him in this weird middle ground
Idk why he’s soo slowed by his bow aswell if he doesn’t have a one shot, at most it should slow him by 15% not a full 30% when he can’t even oneshot
Bring back his full charged shot when wall climbing too

Pickrate does. Winrate doesn't mean anything useful.
It's "Time Weighted Winrate" math, and Overwatch is the only game that uses it.
All it tells you, is if the hero is preferred to win/lose on Attack or Defence.

the problem is that some people have "bad internet connections" like me, where the netcode makes that you can't have a fair 1v1 vs a genji. It's not about ping m, but packet loss where if you play against a higher ping genji player he will use his ultimate, you'll hear the audio queue way much later than he actually used it, making it impossible for you to have an accurate counterplay. the netcode of overwatch 2 is abyssmal, therefore moira is a necessary evil. the game is broken for everyone, not only for you. I hope as much as you do for times where we can have fair matchups again.

Winrates mean nothing cause stats are unnatural. If ow2 had simple mmr system with harsh ranked restrictions on who against who can play. You would see ckeaner stats. You cant figure out anything by stats and if you can somehow break 50 % wall that represents fake faie matches. Thatmean that character nor just broken. Its completely absurd. Thare is a reason you have uphill battles and expected in ranked game. Cause game forcibly create favored teams to win or lose

This is the same kind of logic as the "facts and logic" people who ignore that humans have emotions. Playing around human error is the purpose of competitive gameplay, Genji relies on nano to exist; fine. The game is absolutely in the worst state it has ever been and your logic is that Moira is the problem instead of the games health. Also this situation is completely ignoring team play whatsoever in a 5v5 game.
