    The Enercon E-126 is a wind turbine model manufactured by the German company Enercon. With a hub height of 135 m (443 ft), rotor diameter of 126 m (413 ft) and a total height of 198 m (650 ft), this large model can generate up to 7.58 megawatts of power per turbine. The power output of the generator was changed from 6 MW to 7 MW after technical revisions were performed in 2009.
    The weight of the foundation of the turbine tower is about 2,500 t, the tower itself 2,800 t, the machine housing 128 t, the generator 220 t, the rotor (including the blade) 364 t. The total weight is about 6,000 t.
    The first turbine of this model was installed in Emden, Germany in 2007. The list price of one unit is $14 million plus install costs.

    A beautiful video, but this is an Enercon E-101 (not an E-126), which is rated at 3.05 MW and it is designed for low wind locations and tall towers up to 149 meters high. Its rotor diameter is 101 meters. The most powerful wind turbine in operation today is the Vestas V164 designed for offshore use which is rated at 8MW and has a rotor diameter of 164 meters. The most powerful onshore turbine is the Enercon E-126 with 7.58MW and 127m rotor diameter.

      in generating terms, despite the large strucure, it is a toy, steam turbo alternators have been built up to 2,000 Mwatt. and they produce about 90% name plate rating for a year, wind turbines vary from about 25% to 40% if they are lucky per year.

    • @AceMcMoron
      @AceMcMoron 8 лет назад +8

      Correct, but there is one fundamental difference... You need natural gas or oil to run those, a carbon-sugar-daddy from a country or an extraction method you do not want to be associated with...
      Wind turbines on the other hand generate REAL value adding mostly domestic jobs, and all they need is a some wind to run on.

    • @iareid8255
      @iareid8255 8 лет назад +3

      Hello Ace,
      perhaps you are not aware that the fossil fuel plants (and nuclear) run continually anyway as
      they are needed when the wind drops and cannot just be switched off and on as needed. Investment in renewables is the reason that our capacity is now critical and we will struggle if we have a bad winter. Compnies do not want to build more real stations as the return has dropped.
      Carbon is much (unfairly) maligned but the reality is that it is essential, especially as there is an opposition to nuclear generation.
      Read up a bit about the subject and see how other countries are also struggling due to renewables, They cause more problems than they solve.

      It happens to be able to found companies, to grab immense amounts of aid money, to have chauffeur driven Daimlers, BMWs and to get secretaries to fool around with. Even the output of this behemoth is not enough to move a large electric locomotive. That gives you an idea how useful it is to devastate the nature this way. They couldn't care less for the earth, they want to grab money, other people's money."They" means politics and carpetbaggers. It's always cash as cash can. I forgot those who let the building lot for rent, they are part of this unsacred alliance.

      Do you have any idea, how much energy is needed and how long it takes, to erect a nuclear plant? 10 years are not uncommon. And the problem is, that there is no place were we can safely store radioactive material for more than a couple of 100 years, so basicly nuclear power plants are a unfinished technology. And if thats not enough for you, just look at tree mile island, tchernobyl and fukushima.

    One of those cranes was at one of our local big projects (won’t disclose what). We got a tour of the sight and it was insanely big and it took multiple people to operate. It cost the project something like $100000 to rent a day

    I could care less about these massive wind turbines. All I want is a 'thing' that will reduce my monthly electricity bill and the local authority will not allow me to build any sizeable turbine in a residential area. I guess I have no choice but to stay with fossil fuels for a while.

      In theory Fukushima, looked great like wind fart turbines, till the shit hits the fan so to speak. They designed well and built by accountantrs and shareholders, that is why it f@cked up. Clean coal power anyday or get smarter with solar and produce 30% plus more power, mate has the invention, but no ass wipe wants to know as no follow money tree once operatioonal and lenghtens life of solar panels also. And can be adapted to current panels or make new panels with this concept inbuilt. Wind is just like a foul fart in the room, totally on the nose. WHy he is toatlly off the grid and pisss these Lithiun Ion Batteries off useless as stiff prick in a male jail, who is ineterest in shafting shit.

      Clearly you have not had access to any form of quality education and for that i am truly sorry. However as an employee of a wind company i feel i should do my best to explain a few simple details about the construction and operation of a large high output turbine. Certainly some fuel is used during the assembly of a turbine, however thanks to skilled engineering and a highly developed build plan this only takes one or two days. A turbine will run for 20 years. This turbine can produce 6.5MW of energy on average enough to provide power for over 1500 homes. Here us a quick lesson on math for you, 6.5 Megawatt-hour at $150 per 1 Megawatt hour (the average cost in the united states) provides you with $8.5 million dollars annually. A diesel powered generation plant producing the equivalent power would consume tens of thousands of gallons of fuel per year and cause large amounts of pollution. This option becomes more cost effective in only a few years and your fuel source (the wind) happens to be free. It is true that the gear box requires oil changes during seasonal maintenance however the amount of oil used is minimal. Who said environmentalism couldn't be profitable? Large companies realize this is the future of the energy sector and are investing accordingly.

    • @pscartozzi
      @pscartozzi 8 лет назад +55

      +bicdaddy
      In a heartbeat. 170 of these is an easily achievable wind farm. Cost is reaching on par far more attractive than nuclear when you take into account the disposal of nuclear material. So while you were joking you actually had a spark of sounding like a forward looking visionary.

    • @denniscurless904
      @denniscurless904 8 лет назад +3

      +bicdaddy Are we talking 170 of these big ones? What happens when the wind is too fast or too slow to turn the blades? Then where does the electricity come from. 170 of these could have the same daily wind velocities.

    • @ferkeap
      @ferkeap 8 лет назад

      +Perry S And you need 1 electricity-station to offset the fluctuations per 50% of it's power.So 75 per station.That's why we need a very big variation of energy generation. And be prepared to shutdown, mass-users if needed in rare situations.

    • @ferkeap
      @ferkeap 8 лет назад

      +taledarkside why ?, it is a choos to use oil as an energy-source.

    • @ferkeap
      @ferkeap 8 лет назад +2

      +taledarkside it would be for those , but you misunderstood the pun. you can choose other energies. and I don't think it would be hypocritical, you have to start somewhere.
