    I bought one of these for my dad and just assembled it yesterday. I was very impressed with the packaging and how easy it was to put together. I think their instructions leave something to be desired though.... I’m an engineer so I can understand the bolt descriptions (measurements)... this was the only thing that I have ever assembled that didn’t have a parts list or some form of identification. This in my mind could add some unnecessary difficulty. Besides that, the thing is a beast. I love the controls and the ease of use! I hope my dad loves his gift as much as I do 😂

    When you change out your pellets, hang you bucket from the little hook your cord is draped on. It lines the bucket up with the chute making spills less likely.

    I had the same problem with my WifI controller after a software update. Also the controller was set at 230 degrees with a smoke setting at 2. Adjusted with app for smoke to 8 and temp to 250 degrees. The app started showing the grill going on and off using the app. Then the grill grilled failed to connect to app. After about 15 minutes found grill running at 500 degrees and app was not able to adjust. The controller still was able to adjust the settings.
    Spoke with Julie at Camp Chef with problem. After trouble shooting they are sending me a new controller out.

    I cooked a pork shoulder on my Woodwind 24. Was a small piece so it only took 6.5 hours. when i was done there was almost no ash in the cup but there was ash all over the inside of the grill. The pork was directly on the grill. I did not cover the drip tray with foil. I did an initial burn in at 350 for about an hour. Am I doing something wrong?

    I'm glad yours is giving you the flavor you like. I got a Traeger recently. I've done pulled pork and ribs. The convenience is amazing and results were good, but I really get very little smoke flavor even on super smoke mode. I have a newborn at home so babysitting my Weber kettle isn't an option, even though the taste is superior. I got truly 100% hickory pellets and I'm going to try adding a smoke tube this weekend.

Everything I have seen talks about the sear box attachment, which I would most likely get, but I never see comments on the ability of moving the flame deflector for direct heat. I have seen a Oklahoma Joe pellet grill. I think that would be the one to buy. The price is appealing as well. It doesn't have WiFi , but that isn't what a grill is for. I think grills should be simple and modular in case parts fail. I think we will have to see if any hidden problems though, and it won't be replacing my Highland either for that extra smoking TLC.

    Get the jerky racks, best add on, I've also used them to cold smoke cheese with the a-maze-n smoke tube, and to get salmon up away from the main grate. I'm assuming they fit the model you have, I have the entry level XT that I'm going to swap the controller out with a Rec tec controller. @@tammyflom1750 Did Camp Chef ever resolve your auger problem? I just had this grill delivered yesterday and put it together today. I am having auger issues with it. The design of the auger motor is terrible! It is not secured to anything, only sits on a shelf. The motor has a fan on the back of it and it moves back into the housing and then shuts off. I can move the auger back and forth with my hand with no pellets in there to get the motor away from the housing but as it turns the motor vibrates, makes a bunch of noise and moves right back into the housing and shuts off. One thing I've noticed is once it goes through the startup process, about 6 minutes or so, the smoke drops off considerably unless you turn up the smoke level to something above 4 or 5. You'll definitely smell the smokiness, but I haven't had any issues with really visible smoke after that startup phase on low smoke settings.

    • @CookingWithRy
      @CookingWithRy  4 года назад

      It usually happens on every startup, which is a precise amount of time. Some of the time it mellows out before the startup completes at 6 minutes, which may be due to conditions at the time of the cook.

    Ry, what sort of temps can you achieve with the SideKick? If I want to reverse sear a nice thick steak, will the griddle get hot enough to give a nice sear? I know that Camp Chef offers the searing attachment, but if the SideKick gets hot enough, it seems more versatile. I'm about a month or two away from purchasing a Woodwind for myself, and trying to decide.

      Since it connects to a WiFi network, to a server, and then to your phone, theoretically anywhere you have internet should work. enjoy this channel alot and was excited to see you are enjoying your camp chef also. mine is older without the separate smoke setting but considering buying the upgrade controller. so my questions would be:
    1) your rules of thumb for setting the smoke setting? maybe what you've learned experimenting with smoke vs temp swings? in your other video i saw 1-5...my first thought would be 5-10?
    2) camp chef also sells charwood pellets. any interest in trying those?
    3) do you think the camp chef has hot cold spots maybe for the main cook grill and then the collapsable cook grill? is it enough to strategize what you cook where?

    • @CookingWithRy
      @CookingWithRy  3 года назад

      I usually stick with about a 4 on the smoke unless I really want more, then it's 7 or 8. I've used the charwood and they work really well. There are hot spots, just like most grills. Mine tends to be in the back left. But I find if I'm doing a large cut of meat it doesn't really affect the outcome. In fact, I rarely worry about hot spots on any cooker since I've seen very little change when I try to cook with them in mind.

    I just received this pellet grill yesterday, this morning I put it together (on saturday morning when customer service is closed of course) Once I had everything together I proceeded to feed the pellets into the auger chute. It would not work. Upon further inspection I came to realize that the electric motor on the end of the auger is not secured in any way. It just sits on top of a piece of metal, a small shelf is how I would describe it. The motor has a fan on the back of it. The motor and fan were pushed back into the back of the housing. After taking a cover off the bottom of the housing I was able to see that the motor has a lot of movement in it. I could actually push the motor towards the auger and get it to work until a load was put onto the auger which would then push the motor and fan back into the housing causing it to shut down. This is an extremely poor design flaw on one of the most critical components of what appears to be an otherwise incredible machine.
    Very disappointed in this design, I don't see it holding up for long. For an $800 pellet grill this a big problem. I believe this will be returned unless Camp Chef can come up with an acceptable solution next week when they open up and I see how their customer service is.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
