Lookup fields are always automatically updated. In other words, a lookup field is like a “borrowed field” from another table. If you change the value in the source table, any linked records connected to the source table, and its respective lookup fields - will update in real time!
Hi Tom, I am just starting out in airtable and would like some advice. I am attempting to build a high school sports funding app using airtable and possibly glide. I want to essentially create a sign up for coaches that when submitted will start an automation that will create a qr code for the coach and then anyone scanning his qr can then sign up as a team member, once the team member fills out and submits it will create a new qr for the teammate to share with their friends and family members, that qr code would lead to the schools donation page on paypal. I think this is the best way to set it up so that we can track and incentivize the teammates participation, What do you think?
Sounds like a great use-case! This will take a bit to setup, but you can do it! To make it easier while you build this, give XRayWorkflow.com a try (its free). It will make keeping track of your resources much easier as you piece this together. Heres an example board with these resources on it already: app.xrayworkflow.com/b/064000a1-26ad-4d18-958b-00e3ffe5f0df You can 'save' this board for reference inside your own instance of XRayWorkflow and be able to refer back to the Donation Documentation easily for example. Let us know what you think! Good luck building, and you're always welcome to join us at Open Automation Hour (also free). calendly.com/xraytech/open-automation-hours
A linked record is a linked record is a linked record! It could be linked via zapier, via Airtable automation, via scripting, Make.com or any other automation provider. The short answer is- there’s no functional difference, though one way might be easier than others- depending on the rest of your system/automation needs.
Hey thanks for your advices !
Do you know how to automaticlly update the lookup ? Not manually
Thanks !

What are the pros and cons of linking records with a script vs with a non-scripted airtable automation?
A linked record is a linked record is a linked record!
