Some really good suggestions Sally! I would say that Sew Over It have a reputation for narrow sleeves. I've got the Ultimate Shift Dress pattern but haven't made it yet as my slightly larger than average bicep circumference means I'll need to do a full bicep adjustment if I want long sleeves or slash and spread if I want short sleeves. If you're a new sewist wanting to make this, just check your bicep measurement with the width of the sleeves!
PS I’m finding more and more companies are offering Ponte Roma made from viscose rather than polyester. I know for certain that Fabric Godmother sell it.
Ah yes I have heard this. I think you’re right, my ultimate shift did have narrow sleeves although I could wear it. I haven’t made any of their newer patterns for a while so I’m not sure if they’re still this way. Thank you for watching and sharing xx
Good morning! I love watching you on a Sunday morning with my morning coffee, such a lovey way to start the day! Great round up of patterns, thank you. Btw I like sewist best, sewers are pipes that carry away nasty smelly stuff and a seamstress sounds way too professional and perfect for me! 😂❤
Hi Sally, lovely reminder of some useful beginner patterns. As my sewing has progressed I now batch sew a few base layers/tshirts each season, which feels a step forward for me. The Amara vest by Tessuti is very simple if using a non-fray knit & making version A. Super simple construction & very on-trend for layering with oversized shirts. Love your vlogs, thank-you 😊
Thanks for another great vlog. I've recently started wearing the Mandy Boat tee tucked in over shirts for work. It looks quite smart that way. I think I need to make the Lana skirt and Mandy Boat tee as a knit co-rd set. I've not heard of the Lana skirt before, either! I have been thinking I'd like a knit dress, but wasn't sure if I'd feel confident enough to wear it. This co-rd will be perfect. But I might need to buy more fabric 😂. xx
This is a great video Sally. As an experienced sewer I feel that I've lost my sewjo recently so this has inspired me again. However, I'm hesitant about trying things now as everything I make seems to be huge even though I go by the finished measurements. I noticed that everything you make seems fit you well. What is your secret? Do you always make toiles? x
Thank you for watching I’m pleased you found it helpful :) I really don’t make toiles ever unless I absolutely have to I’m too impatient. I would have said to always look at the finished garment measurements rather than the body measurements - this is what I tend to do now but it sounds like you’re already doing that. Are you using the correct seam allowance? I’m sorry not to be of more help x
Hello from Finland! I found your channel couple of weeks ago and now I have watched a lot of your videos. I also love to sew, but I think I still have so much to learn. My long term goal would be that I could made most of my own clothes (I also love to knit). Your channel is just a great inspiration for me. So thank you 🙏🏻 Can’t wait for your next videos 😊 Katja @sinullebykatja
A simple pattern which can be dressed up with a less stable fabric is also nice for more experienced sewists
That’s very true thank you x
Pattern Emporium has great beginner patterns with excellent instructions. Many have no fastenings and a lot are knits.
Thank you for that recommendation x
I appreciate the research you do in matching up sewing patterns and fabrics with ready-to-wear high street fashions.
