- PILOT / OWNER - DEANO DEAN COXON,
Finally after several months of assembling and painting and then fitting out and setting up deano Dean Coxon managed to test fly his stunning 1/5 scale 100" span ZIROLI DOUGLAS SBD DAUNTLESS DIVEBOMBER powered by a brand new MOKI 150cc radial (still running it in peeps) at the Nlmfc Baldock Hertfordshire NLMFC,
Sorry about the quality of this vid but it was heavily overcast and we had a couple of heavy showers thrown in,
Thanks to Tim Jackson for inviting us both over there for the day,
The model was originally built to a high standard by jon seabright over a 10yr period to the completely glass clothed stage,
Then Nigel Ianson of TJD display team fame here in the uk kindly fitted her into his busy schedule to rivet her & paint her to this high standard you now see (she looks amazing in bright sunlight)
And yes she flies like a dream 👍
Volume up and listen to that moki peeps - enjoy

The Douglas SBD Dauntless is a World War II American naval scout plane and dive bomber that was manufactured by Douglas Aircraft from 1940 through 1944. The SBD ("Scout Bomber Douglas") was the United States Navy's main carrier-based scout/dive bomber from mid-1940 through mid-1944.
Engine type : Wright R-1820 Cyclone
Top speed : 410 km/h
Wingspan : 13 m
Range : 1,939 km
Introduced : 1940
Weight : 2,905 kg
Length : 10 m
The SBD was also flown by the United States Marine Corps, both from land air bases and aircraft carriers. The SBD is best remembered as the bomber that delivered the fatal blows to the Japanese carriers at the Battle of Midway in June 1942. The type earned its nickname "Slow But Deadly" (from its SBD initials) during this period, along with a rarely-used accompanying nickname of "Furious D."
During its combat service, the SBD proved to be an excellent naval scout plane and dive bomber. It possessed long range, good handling characteristics, maneuverability, potent bomb load, great diving characteristics from the perforated dive brakes, good defensive armament, and ruggedness. One land-based variant of the SBD - omitting the arrestor hook - was purpose-built for the U.S. Army Air Forces, as the A-24 Banshee.

Superb model beautifully flown.
Many thanks grahame
This note is for your son Dean. Your father has told me many times of your love of the fast movers...aka... jets but to fly with such precision of such historical models such as this SBD, Well WOW is really a stupid adjective but with my limited vocabulary. I hope you appreciate what your flying means to the rest of us. Pete, thank you for sharing. Jim
wow - thanks jim, its amazing to find out how much a simple video of a lad enjoying his toy plane (no disrespect intended to anyone) can really affect (who knows how many) people that weve never met from all over the world - it is very humbling to be told such a thing jim knowing other like minded people (from all walks of life) thoroughly enjoy the same hobby that weve enjoyed for a combined 60yrs (me 40yrs - dean 20yrs) and that we are actually giving pleasure to other people who may not be in a financial or health wise position to take up this amazing hobby of ours, believe it or not jim but deano doesn't actually have a youtube channel (he usually answers peoples comments on facebook) ive just this second asked him to open up a channel so that he can respectfully answer you my friend, hopefully he will speak to you soon jim, are you on facebook at all jim ?
Hi Jim, thanks very much for your kind comment 😊 it’s really nice to know that what me and dad do and enjoy also brings pleasure to other people as well.
I love flying my jets but I do have a massive love for my WW2 warbirds ! I have many more project on the go that will hopefully be out and ready this year if not early next year.
Thanks again for your comment.
Dean
@@tbobborap1 Thanks Pete but no. Facebook is my wife's realm mostly passive in respect to the area's wild horses. Jim
@@barqwoof thats a shame jim - if i friended your wife on fbook then you could look me up occasionaly when your bored and see mor of what deanos up to with his models etc. Just a thought my friend 👍

Nicely done. Beautiful.
Thank you very much!
Stunning 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome model, Flown fantastic. Maybe a Skyraider for Dean next?😀
too late lexicon as hes already bought one 🙄
Funny you mention a skyraider I have recently purchased a built and glassed ziroli skyraider
She will be a next year project but already have plans for the scheme etc
I’m sure dad will hate it 😂
@@dean3824 Hi Dean, That's Why I mentioned The Skyraider, I Think By Now The Whole World Knows Your Dad Doesn't Like Them, PIss Ugly Is The Term. Cheers.
@@5lexicon hah it had to be done might even have to have his initials put on the side just to really piss him off lol
Yeah, I bet the original pilots would have loved that power to weight ratio! That's going as quick as a Spitfire...
better that than scale hey ro8s ! it would be a lumbering F"^*^"G hulk if flown scale and the pilot would be bored shitless within a minute, i guess all your 1/5th scale models fly perfect scale then ?
@@tbobborap1 Bless you, I have none! 😂I just watched that thing going like the clappers. I think the original managed what 220mph or something? Desperate! It would have been a formidable aircraft at that speed - it does look right...😇
🤣🤣🤣 i understand R08 - but most of the flight was half throttle except the vertical maneuvers - but like i say unless you fly these scale models (toy planes remember) then you wont understand just how boring pure scale flying can be, sometimes (depending on the weather / strong winds etc) it is dangerous to the model itself to fly it scale (tip stalling severe yawing etc) so more power is needed, unfortunately this is one of the trade offs when building / flying large models (toy planes remember🙄 )
@@tbobborap1 I don't see it as a trade off at all. You build an aircraft because it's fun to fly and it looks a lot like that aircraft over there, but better! You can stick a jet engine on it if you want!😆😂🤣
🤣🤣🤣
beautifull looking AND sounding model 👍
Is the bomb droppable? It would be so cool to see a dive with fully extended flaps/airbrakes and a bomb drop 😎
it was originally designed to drop but is now fixed permanently to the model during flight,
awesome, but a little overpowered for a dauntless. Maybe it could be repainted in Reno Racing colours
it seems we cant please everyone daz, wed prefer it overpowered than scale - slow - boring - underpowered, so when you build yours perhaps youll fit a 40 cc petrol single to get that desired "scale" flying that you crave 🙄 after all it is only a toy plane !
Mmmmmmmm (oki).😁
