I wanted to add a comment, but it doesn’t look like the normal comment section is open I watched your video and I kept falling off the wagon, even though I do want to be free of alcohol. I have used it to get to sleep at night. That was my excuse, but then I would get absolutely crapfaced and look and feel like garbage the next day when I went to work. It was embarrassing because I knew people could see what was happening. So I have refused to reset my number from day one because I knew I’d fall off the wagon again. If you decide to have a cycle more drink less challenge I’m totally down for it. I got back into cycling in November at the age of 54 and it’s helping me lose weight and get toned up and is a phenomenal way to socialize and get out and about and get some sunlight which we all need to be healthy. If I drink the night before, I have less energy for my muscles to push forward and go far. Hopefully this comment does get added, and I look forward to any advice you have.
Today is the first day I have watched any of your videos. I've watched several already! 😅 I subscribed while watching the first one. I appreciate you for how much high quality information is in your videos. Thank you. The definition of shame is feeling bad for who we are. The definition of guilt is feeling bad for what we have done. If we have done something we are not proud of, is there an invitation to feel guilt instead of shame? Because if we feel guilt, then we can respond by making atonement. ...AND, we can start in the present time to do things differently. Whatever we face and put effort into, we can make it better... maybe not perfect, but better. Once we find a positive behavior that we like, we COULD be upset with ourselves that we didn't do the behavior sooner OR we can have gratitude that we have started the new behavior while always remembering what (the old behavior cost, so we are careful to continue doing the new behavior). I'm grateful to have found you and am looking forward to exploring the rest of your work. Thank you for your content ❤
It is a miracle that your video popped up on my feed this morning. I have been determined to quit alcohol but struggling to do so. This video is exactly what I needed! Today is my Day 1! Thank you, Chalene❤ Pray for me🙏
Congrats! 14 years here. Chaylene please stop with non existent bloodshot eyes. We are interested in what you have to say without gross red eyes addition.
I love drinking at home! I love alcohol. I found I was over indulging. Not hungover in the am but, feeling guilty every day. Knowing full well how unhealthy it is. I couldn't lose weight (opposite of you) and the drinking was preventing my liver from burning fat. I was only burning the alcohol. This video is motivating. Thank you for sharing. I quit for 30 days and now I allow myself 1 drink per week. Down 37 pounds and feel amazing!
@tsamseli, I am on the same page with everything you say here!! I am a single mom of two 20, 19 and don't even go out much! But I love drinking at home! I think the "relaxing" thing and maybe some boredom. Same, over indulging, but not hungover in the am, so getting up, going to work was just the norm every day but I felt guilty as hell. Agreed this video is 100% motivating and I feel her every emotion and struggle. Please let me know what might have helped quitting for 30 days. Way to go girl!!!!! 🙌🙌I need to do this!!
I am see description and started a new system today. Which means no wine at home. I not sure how this will go but I know alcohol (wine) is preventing my to lose weight
10 years sober here. Im 68 and feel amazing. Best thing I EVER did for myself. I lost 40 pounds started lifting weights...eating clean and look 10 years younger . Everything in my life got better.
Love to hear it! I’m 3 months sober from alcohol and 1 month sober from weed. I feel so much happier, healthier, and my brain is functioning properly again
I didn't lose weight at all and was so mad as it was the number one reason I quit. I hit 7 months and the weight just started falling off, I have lost 11 lbs in the last month and haven't changed a thing. I think if you have been a long-term drinker it takes a long time for your gut and hormones to heal. I just hit 8 months alcohol-free today and I am so proud of you Chalene for realizing how bad it is for you.
@@neptuneenergy123 Hang in there - it gets better! The first few months I gained too as I was snacking every night on sugar! Just concentrate on quitting drinking at first once you get some time under your belt you can focus on the lbs.
The Pregamer !! 😂 im watching this video hung over. Im 47 and perimenopause is just not cool. Alcohol makes it all worse! I stopped drinking last Jan for a month and started lifting weights and lost 20 pounds. Now its creeping back up. Nuh uh! Im so inflamed. So i am declaring now that im going to do the 21 day challenge!! 🎉❤
Love this so much! Alcohol definitely doesn’t help, especially during perimenopause. Congrats on your progress before, and I'm so happy that you're jumping into the 21-day challenge with us! Let's do this!!
So grateful that a woman with so much influence in the health and wellness space is being honest and speaking up about this subject. I can tell you that your life, emotional, mental and physical health will only get better year after year by staying on this path. 17 years after I quit and now at 68, I am so clear, so happy, so healthy - all my internal #'s and my external fitness and aesthetics are much younger than my chronological age. I look at other people who drink regularly, even much younger than me, and I see how alcohol is affecting and aging them. Congrats for having the self-awareness and courage to take this step. Smart woman more and more have moved away from alcohol. All the Best!
Thank you so much for your kind words and wisdom! It’s so inspiring to hear how vibrant and healthy you are after 17 years alcohol-free. Your story is a beautiful testament to the long-term benefits, and I’m so grateful for your support. All the best to you, too!
I’ve been alcohol free for almost 6 years. I decided to quit drinking after my husband relapsed in his sobriety. I witnessed the horrible effects of alcohol and what it does to your body, he would vomit up dark blood and it was evil. That was it! I was done! Our life is so much better and definitely more happiness in our 7 year marriage. ❤🙏🏼❤️
I drank vodka rocks heavy for about 5 years to cope with a really bad relationship. I thought it was helping but the fighting got worse. Alcohol was destroying me in every way. I gained 30 lbs, my feet and hands were becoming swollen all the time, I made an ass out of myself, I put myself in dangerous situations. I could go on and on. So one day I said That’s It!!! I’m going to end up dead or in jail. Fear was my motivator. I had hit rock bottom. Now I’m a little over 3 months sober. I feel safe and in control. I am thankful I quit without going into rehab. My reason was strong to quit and I take one day at a time….. today I will not take a drink. All the best to every one You are worth it ❤
Our story’s are SO similar. It was like you were telling my story in this video. I have decided alcohol doesn’t make me feel my best so I am stopping. So here is to 5 days no alcohol 🎉
I quit drinking May 13, 2024. Just decided it did not benefit me anymore. I am so proud of myself and feel better all the way around! So proud of you Chalene!
I suspended my wine after listening to your podcast about making the 30 day challenge. It’s been almost 3 mths and no wine! I don’t even miss it. Thank you for the motivation!
AF since 2000. My sister was in an awful car accident and I could no longer justify my drinking. I’d been health conscious and fitness oriented all of my adult life, except for alcohol. I made all the excuses. Then I read “The Thinking Person’s Guide to Sobriety”. Yikes! One of hardest best things I’ve ever done. Thank you for helping me remember how amazing my changed life is. Earned my BSN at 48 and MSN at 57! My first fitness certification was PiYo! Then…Yoga instructor, health coach, Breathwork coach and still learning at 63! Planning for my next 30 years 🙌🏻 to share all the wisdom. Breaking an ancestral bond of alcohol for future generations. Freedom feels so good.
Amazing, congratulations. Love reading your story. Sorry about the accident your sister was in though. I lost a brother in a MVA in 1976. If you happen to like poetry, check out Donna Ashworth's book Growing Brave. Words to soothe fear and let in more life. The poem Yellow on page 149 is SO beautiful. I'm 55 and have been very health conscious my entire life and into fitness, always. Choosing not to drink. I'm on day 21. Taking it a day at a time. Aiming for 90 days, but who knows, I may never drink again. Take good care. Annette from rural Ontario Canada
The fact that you’re posting this now is my sign to rethink alcohol!! I hung out with family at a brewery on Saturday and I still feel sick and hungover. 🤦♀️ Plus, I’m putting SO MUCH EFFORT into post-menopausal healing only to blow it for beer? It’s time to reevaluate my life….
I can relate Laura~ usually took a good 3 days before I felt myself again~ no bueno, no more. Since dropping that, along w/changing to a low carb/high fat way of eating, I feel happier, more "dopamine" type mood levels, except it's all the time~ I wake up that way. Just my experience & what worked for me. So grateful I did that same evaluation you're talking about.Samantha in AZ
Quit. July 7 almost 3 months. It was a habit after dinner couple glasses at night. Waste of time. I only wake up once at night now and I don’t wake w panic so fall back easier, also don’t get the complete embers and soaking w sweat at night, still sweat a little. . I always drank coffee as a habit in mornin by 1st cup got jitters, not anymore. My real Reason for quitting OH was all the horrific drama it caused in my family that I had nothing to do with. I want to change my family tree. I won’t say I will never have a glass, but I’m on a better path.love the videos keeps me encouraged to continue. I don’t have to worry if someone calls at 2 am and in the hospital and I have to hop in the car and there is nothing in my system to go see them. 😉
@@FreshGrey-pm4vw OMG, I literally just watched that video this morning!!! And here I was thinking I could cut back to just a couple drinks a week.... 🤦♀ Thanks for the suggestion! ❤
I decided when I was very young that I would never drink alcohol. I'm 65 and I am so glad that I have lived an alcohol-free life. When you don't drink any alcohol, you never have to worry about drinking too much. No one ever decides to become an alcoholic. By the grace of God, I am very fit and have always been fit. Menopause was uneventful. I kept waiting for the horrible symptoms, but they never happened. I never had to worry about being a bad example to my children by making them think that alcohol was the only way to have fun. I never had a guilty conscience about anything I did or didn't do while drinking. I have saved a ton of money. I have no regrets! I praise God for giving me parents who provided me with an example of how to live a fulfilling and God-honoring life that is alcohol free! Thank you, Chalene, for having the courage to do this video. You have probably saved some lives.
Alcohol can slowly accerelerate into an addiction, what starts out as fun can slowly morph into a crutch or a habitual lifestyle. A slippery slope is so true, the irony is society accepts alcohol but not alcoholism.
That is because normal drinkers think alcoholism is a moral issue…. We could just quit if we had enough will power. ALCOHOLISM is a disease. The first one gets you drunk and you forfeit the ability to say no to the second one.
I stopped drinking alcohol about 1 month ago now. I had to get serious about reducing my inflammation. And I started getting symptoms of gout after I had 2 or more drinks in a night. Its nice to hear others are on the same track.
Keep going 👍I drank heavy for 5 years I’ve been sober now just a little over 3 months. I drank to cope with a really bad relationship So thankful I’m sober. All the best
Well done! I’m almost at 8 months. I just decided one day to stop for a bit….. and i’m still going. I was drinking at least a bottle of wine a night, no hang overs, nothing that I could see or feel that made me feel bad. But I felt I should have a break. I didn’t see or feel any positive changes when I gave up, I also didn’t have any real withdrawal symptoms. Day one was the hardest as it had become such a habit! I keep wine in the house, in case I want it, but the longer I don’t drink the more I don’t want to drink. I too can’t say that i’ll never drink again, but right now I’m so proud, as are you, of myself for doing this. Keep it up! ❤
That’s me, a bottle or more of Organic, no added sulfites red wine. The healthy wine lol. I’m working on getting ready to let it go but scared at the lifestyle change at the same time as it has been a crutch for so long. I’m 56 and don’t take any meds of any kind and never did, but for anxiety/ panic attacks this is where I landed. And I refuse to hate or shame myself for it but Im just not helping myself anymore.
@lovinglifehealth have you tried hops seltzer water? A can came in my box subscription. I thought it was mango seltzer water and was a little confused when I opened it and it tasted like beer. I don't drink beer. I noticed even the next day I felt more relaxed, might be worth looking into. ❤
I’m so PROUD of you, Chalene!!! I have followed you for YEARS! Did your Turbo Fire videos in my classroom after school each day. Bought the false lashes you wore on Amazon and the cheap headphones you suggested. Literally, I’ve tuned in to sooo many podcasts you’ve done over the years, I can’t even count. You’ve kept me company while commuting, and I could not understand why you still drank as much as you love fitness and your body. You look AMAZING and work so hard, and I was so confused that you did. Seeing you make this change makes me soooo happy as one of the women who has been influenced by you! I’ve been sober for 3 summers now and can appreciate the stories about how someone comes to the realization it no longer serves them! God bless you!!!! As a teacher with summers off, I know how challenging it can be to be the only person in the room without a drink in their hand. Praise God drunk people annoy me! Hahaha That and getting sick from alcohol reminds me why quitting was the best decision I could make!!! Here’s to being a wonderful example to not only our kids, but to everyone else who may be looking for someone they know, love, and trust that it IS possible to give it up and replace that behavior with some kick @$$ mocktails recipes!!!!
Thank you so much 😍 Your message truly means the world to me. I’m so proud of you for your own journey too! It’s amazing to hear how long you’ve been part of my community, and I love that you’ve found joy and strength in your sobriety. Keep being that inspiring example to others - especially your students!
2 years ago I stumbled upon the Huberman video (your brain on alcohol), I watched the beginning but closed out of it, thinking that I will watch later. I kept it in the back of my mind for a year. I drank one or two heafty glasses of wine with most every dinner for about 25 years. My ex also acused me of being an alcoholic. I finally decided to watch the entire Huberman video and immediately I quit drinking, cold turkey. It was a struggle in the beginning, but I am proud to say that I have gone one full year with Zero alcohol and, like you, I am so proud of this! My message to those who drink and want better health, especially in our old age, is the YOU CAN DO THIS! (My secret was to have beet juice or carrot juice in a wine glass with meals! This helped me tremendously). I am single and hope to date men that do not drink at all. I was so happy to hear about Chalene's exact same experience! Thank you Chalene and Andrew Huberman.
Wow. Am so glad you are covering this topic. I’m in my 60s about to launch a longevity medical clinic in Hawaii. I too realized I had to walk the talk. Knowing what I know about geroscience and the effects of alcohol on health and aging, I too resolved to let alcohol go. It was almost impossible at first. But my Why-to be at my peak performance as a CEO - is more powerful than the siren call of a martini. What worked for me: Start one day, then add another day; and before you know it, feeling better becomes the Meta Why, giving you joy to the continue.
So my handle says California (I can’t figure out how to change it 😂) I actually live in Maui. I would love to know where your clinic is going to be located
Oh wow! Congratulations on launching your clinic and embracing such a powerful “Why.” I love how you’ve shifted focus to feeling better as motivation. You’re truly walking the talk, and it’s so inspiring!!
Two years and counting. Never had more clarity of mind. Intuition off the charts. I never have to use will power to stay away from alcohol because no substance beats this pure state of being.
I quit drinking beer and any alcohol I have never felt so much better and it feels great getting up in the morning. I still get the craving but I tell myself you will feel better in the morning if you don’t drink.
I’m hitting my 1yr on Nov 26th and I’ve never felt better. My mind is clearer, I sleep like a baby now and I’ve seen major results in the gym…. But my main reason for why I stopped drinking is because I was in a toxic & abusive relationship and with not drinking it gave me clarity and the courage to get out ! One of the best decisions I’ve made. 🤗
Thanks to your original video am now alcohol free for 42 days! It was much easier than I expected, maybe because I feel so much better. At 55 years old hangovers are just awful. Thank you Chalene! ❤
CHALENE! OMGOODNESS, I have been doing all the things you mention here before you realized alcohol was becoming a “thing” for you. 100%…comparing, making excuses, justifying, etc. Thanks to YOU, I have now begun my journey into an alcohol-free life! Got the book This Naked Mind (plus the audio version so I can listen while I’m busy!) , and my eyes have been opened as never before. I pray and ask God for His help through this process, and then to keep me from going back. Looking forward to seeing the extra mid-section weight to come off, and walking like my life depends on it (it DOES!). Thank you, my friend, for being vulnerable and truthful. You’ve made a real difference in my life! Muah!
This is first time I ever write a you tube comment but I just wanted you to know …. Your video made me stop my drinking that I felt that I may never change. I have been avoiding watching alcohol videos because I figured “I don’t have a problem“. But after listening to everything you were saying, I was able to relate to it 100%. Then I started digging deeper into alcohol and how it relates to brain health and let me tell you it definitely open my eyes. I am not saying that I will never have a drink again. They definitely will not be having daily cocktails anymore! And the last two weeks have only had one glass of wine and that is quite a big accomplishment for me. I feel good, have more energy, sleeping, good, and I’m very proud of myself. Thank you so much for making that video it made all the difference in the world for me.
@gloriatellechea3232 That is amazing. I hope you are successful on your journey. I'm approaching alcohol the same way I did when I stopped smoking cigarettes in 1999, as the toxin it is and I just don't want to harm myself any longer. I'm taking it one day at a time and I'm on day 32. I say the same thing, I'm not sure if I'll never drink again, but I know for me that one drink leads to two drinks and then more. I have an issue with control, so it is better for me, I think, to completely abstain. My energy has already improved during my workouts. I'm very proud of myself as well. Never thought I could do it.
OMG this means a lot to me! It’s just heartwarming to know that the video helped you take such a big step toward change. The fact that you’re already feeling better and making progress with cutting down is amazing, and you should be so proud of yourself for that! It’s not easy, but recognizing the benefits and staying mindful of your choices is such a huge accomplishment. Thank you so much for sharing this with me, and I’m cheering you on all the way!
Alcohol as a way to be able to tolerate boring and pointless events or people I really had nothing in common with was a surprise for me. It’s everywhere, but it eventually faded into the background for me. My 30 days felt too good to give up! Im at 11 months. Now it never sounds like a fun idea, just stealing tomorrow’s happiness and energy.
Your story, history and self talk sounds exactly like my own. i am right behind you with 28 days alcohol free. It does get easier and i am feeling so much better.
When you said FOMA, I felt like you were talking exactly to me. So much of your experience is mirrored in mine. I've reduced my social drinking and am now devoted to stopping entirely. Thank you for making this video.
Just breezed through my first 10 days alcohol free after your last video on this! I too was avoiding the Huberman episode so it was just what i needed. I listened to the 10 day book you recommended, now I’m onto This Naked Mind. Bring on the quit lit! Thank you for sharing this publicly, without you I would still be waiting to address alcohol for my health. Here’s to a beautiful prefrontal cortex! ❤
Great video Chalene! I am six months alcohol free. I feel so much better about myself especially in the mornings. I used to feel guilt about my drinking even though I wasn’t hungover. It’s so nice to wake up every morning feeling good!!! Thank you for your very honest perspective.
I have followed you for a while and was always surprised that you drank because you are seemingly perfectly healthy. You look better just from the last 30 days! Keep up the good work! Living AF is everything ❤
Congratulations on your journey. For all who have just stared on this journey, take it one day at a time or one minute at a time. Ego is not your amigo. Your ego will & does keep you in fear-false evidance appearing real, so face everything & recover. Ive been clean & sober for 27 years. Stayin sober changes everything. Yes you feel everything deeper & it's such a gift. I'm so grateful to have the RUclipsS put your channel in my feed. I am now on HRT & walking most days. Next is to add the weight lifting which I LOVE. Thank you Chalene.
in the last year, I have gone from nightly drinking to 1 or 2 nights...loving the change and also often take a month at a time off. thank you for your videos, you're the best.
The way you speak is so non-judgmental and welcoming. Just like talking to a true friend. You’re a wonderful example for me as a moody woman in perimenopause lol I mean it with all my heart, THANK YOU!!!!! 💕
I am 9 months alcohol free today and everything you said about how you woke being proud of yourself and being aligned with my values are true and priceless!! Besides I am setting such an amazing example for my 3 kids, especially my 2 high schoolers
I'm on month 2 alcohol free. Your story mirrors mine, I really started because I wanted to see how it affected my weight, but now it's way more than that!
It’s my first comment but I officially stop drinking for almost 3 years now… I’m gonna turn 40 this year and I never feel better about myself! Proud organic farmer, mom of big 2 teens and more happy and alive then ever!
Congratulations on almost 3 years alcohol-free! That’s such an incredible achievement, and it’s amazing to hear how happy and alive you feel. Proud of you for setting such a strong example as a mom and organic farmer! 💜
Chalene… I enjoy all of your videos but I have to say I’ve never respected you more than I do now!!! This might be the most important video that you’ve ever done to help women… I’m 58 years old and have been really focusing on my health especially this last year… I used to think a glass of wine at night would help me relax but I learned that it was doing the exact opposite and negatively affects sleep! May GOD Bless You for your honesty and vulnerability!!! THANK YOU!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! I’m so glad this message resonated with you, and I’m proud of you for focusing on your health. It’s amazing what we can learn when we truly listen to our bodies. May God bless you too!
Great video ! Thank you for sharing . Over the summer I listened to a doctor on a podcast that said she would never drink alcohol without taking charcoal. It really shocked me . I never drank much just a few drinks a year but the goal is even less now. Health is wealth! And the studies that came out this past year on alcohol and the brain are incredible and eye opening! Bravo to you ❤
Girl, I literally stopped myself from signing up for a wine subscription service today. I heard myself saying, "this will actually save money!" like I'd found a way to economize on some essential. That was my WTH are you doing moment! I haven't had so much as a buzz in many years but that daily glass with dinner felt like something I was owed. I'm older than you and need my body to be free of dealing with anything it doesn't need at this point. Thank you Chalene!
OMG …. I was reading my Bible this morning and read something that inspired me to ask God what I need to do to improve my life … and it was the same as you’re talking about! The Holy Spirit told me to make a declaration that I would stop drinking alcohol …. and in a better way for me to say it for myself … ‘I’m on a continual cleanse’ (that just sounds more positive for me!!!😅). Either way, I’m just excited to do something that will be in total alignment for me, and with how I help others with health and lifestyle! @chalenejohnson Your video is so synchronistic!!! ❤
Oh this is so beautiful! I'm so touched! I’m really glad the videos resonated with you. It’s amazing how mindful and strong you’ve been-keep up the great work!
Chalene! Same! I stopped drinking almost 10 years ago now. I also thought I wouldn't have any fun or be fun anymore. I was so wrong! I love life, have fun, and go out with my drinking friends. The atmosphere of the bar and parties are fun, not the hangover. I truly believe that I get way more out of life now! Love you, and I'm so proud of your healthy choices! You have such a loving spirit and thank you for teaching us from your experiences!💓💗💖🎉
Hi Chalene, I love that you’re sharing your story with women. WE NEEDED IT! My mother is 76 and has alcohol use disorder and dementia. We put her unwillingly into assisted living this summer as the dementia and alcohol is now circulating nonstop in her brain… she was drinking around the clock alone…and driving still. She felt too prideful and shameful to get help sooner for her alcohol use disorder. She loved 2 exercises DAILY cardio and weight lifting. Also 3 glasses of wine daily because she thought it was ok. Dementia rolled through her hard this last year and thus the family. Her mother, my grandmother loved until 98 years old and drank one martini a week no brain disease. What I am saying is Dementia is 90% preventable through lifestyle choices. Drink less ladies! Perimenopause is MUCH MUCH easier without it! It’s TOTALLY amazing on the other side. 🎉
What a great episode Chalene! As I approached middle age I wasn’t processing alcohol as well and was feeling some negative side effects. I stopped almost 3 years ago and I’ll never go back. It’s too much of a slippery slope for me and I feel so much better without it. Proud of you for sharing this publicly! You will help this new paradigm shift that drinking is not healthy in any amount especially as we age. But obviously if you can have that occasional glass than cheers to you but do it informed. 🥂🤗
I quit drinking in 2021. After about 3 months I started feeling a deep joy and sense of pride that I don't know if I have ever felt. I still see my old drinking crowd and never have I struggled not being able to drink with them. Now I think, deep down inside, some of them are very jealous of my decision!! I feel better than ever and am the official designated driver!! Another part of not drinking I am proud of!!
One thing that helps me stay sober: If I think about having a drink on the same day that I also worked out, I feel like I'm throwing a $20 bill on the ground. One cancels the other out like it never happened. Feels like a waste of effort....😅
You described my story!! I’m tearing up, married to my best friend and our hobby is drinking! I’ve known for years this isn’t good for me, but I just ignored my inner voice. Thank you for your courage, Chalene, do speak up and do this…I’ve decided today is day 1…I want to try 30 days alcohol free 🙏🏻
I am literally on the same path. I woke up one day and just decided I was done. For the first 3 weeks I could not consume enough content around sobriety and honestly I needed to hear all the things because I was convinced I could not do it. I am thrilled to say it has never been a better time to be sober. Alcohol is having it's day of reckoning...soon I think people will see alcohol like we do cigarettes... zero benefit and only a cost to our health. I love the sayso mocktails you shared and my husband is right there with me. He also was not the one who wanted to drink all the time... that was me! I love the book "Quit like a woman" and all the RUclips vids I can find.
@kellyjohnson1963 I love your post. I too think people are waking up to the real cost of alcohol consumption. I'm 55 and I'm 17 days alcohol free. My body has been whispering to me and I've been ignoring it. I met a woman at the beginning of September who had a liver transplant. I don't know what the reason was, but that was enough to motivate me to quit. I realized I had been taking my health for granted. It has been surprisingly easy. I'm looking forward to the gains, especially around my weightlifting practice. I'm hoping my energy will return to what it once was. I keep at it as I know consistency is key, but some workouts I really have to push through. We can do this.
Alcohol was my coping mechanism, my drug of choice from the age of 14. I spent periods drinking a lot, drinking way to much and drinking less, but I never managed to stop permanently. In the Netherlands you just buy your booze at the grocery store. I have been sober for 1.5 months now. The only way I managed to stop completely was after 80 hours of water fasting. My body had a reset, a new beginning. I fed it with healthy food. Pro biotics, fiber and protein. I no longer craved crapy foods and alcohol. After this I continued to fast occasionally. Yesterday, I drank 1 beer of my regular brand. It tasted heavy and disgusting. I was so happy that i didn't like it anymore. I eve threw away half of it away. I feel great, Love it!!!! I walk 10000/20000 steps a day now instead of drinking 🎉❤
Thanks for sharing your experience of 80 hours of water fasting as means of body reset. It sounds quite extreme but worth researching in to, on the other hand alcohol withdrawal can also be extreme.
OMG!! Congratulations on 1.5 months sober and making such a positive shift in your life! It’s amazing how your body responded to the reset and how strong you’ve become. Keep enjoying those steps and your healthy new path-you’re doing incredible!
I actually decided today that I would not start not drinking tonight. Hopefully I can stick to it, but so far so good! Your video just came in at the most perfect time!
I watched your last video and my husband and I decided to go to once a week. Ended up being every other week. Drinking mocktails while going out with friends has been a big help!
5 days sober and today I'm struggling. I'm off work for the next couple days AND it's thirsty Thursday! Needed this video, thanks for the reassurance!🖤
@springrichardson7236 You can do this. I struggled today too with it being Thirsty Thursday. I have a friend who I zoom with every Thursday since the beginning of the pandemic. The invite is even called Thirsty Thursday! She knows I'm taking a 90 day break and is very supportive. I may never drink again, but just taking it one day at a time. My husband is still drinking, but he has slowed right down with a plan to do 90 days starting January 1st. I just keep thinking of the health I'm gaining from this. My exercises are actually getting easier, my strength and stamina are improving. I smoked cigarettes and quit those back in 1999. This is what alcohol is to me now. I just don't want to do this to myself any longer. Keep posting updates in here. We can all support each other.
I listened to huberman a year ago. And although it made a lot of sense, it didn’t resonate with me like your words and acknowledgements have. Your vulnerability and honesty will help a lot of us figure out this journey. Thank you so much
Hi Chalene, I've been a long time fan of yours through your work out programs. I have to say how much I admire you for sharing your story. I have had the same struggle and it felt like you were sharing my story with all of the worry and fear. I decided to go on a break from alcohol in May 2024 after a vacation with my husband that looked similar to your European trip and I haven't looked back. I feel so much better and my sleep has improved so much! I want to encourage anyone out there thinking about stepping back from alcohol to push past the fears and just do it, you won't ever regret that decision. Again, Thanks so much Chalene for being so open and transparent with your journey. I know you are blessing lots of women and men out there.
Best video I've seen anywhere in a long time on just about anything in general, Charlene! Just the way you put your truth out there, no judgment to others, great research info, and so heart felt. I have a son who's stopped drinking after years of it, cold turkey like you, one of the rare ones as has been able to maintain with no thought to ever go back, but he had a plan like you said, to save his kids... that was his and has worked. He's doing phenomenal now. Thank you for sharing this ❤
I’m 54 and did this 9 months ago, when I had a breast cancer scare and found out alcohol consumption was a very important factor in this illness. I ended up not having breast cancer, but stopped drinking and feel (and look) so much better ! I’m not going back.
I did not know that we couldn't develop muscle if our body is processing alcohol. I am 78 and definitely needing to get my muscles back in shape. I often go for a week or two without any wine, but if it is in the house I drink several glasses a night. I haven't really noticed much of a difference if I am drinking or not. But do want to be as healthy as possible. Will check out your 21 day challenge. Thanks Chalene.
My experience is quite similar to yours, I had to quit for a week because of some medicine I had to take, I had a trip for that period and I almost called it off, but thank God I didn't, and then things unfolded so smoothly, not at all like I have envisioned, and I just was so digging my life, I started celebrating months sober without even thinking about it, and guess what, it's been 2 years and there is no amount of billion dollars you could offer me to take up alchool again! If sex was unbelievable after a week, imagine what it will be like after six months, a year without alcohol... brace yourself for what you're about to see! Thank you so much for sharing this amazing change in your life!
17 days sober and first time saying that for the exact reasons Chalene mentioned. So making the declaration with hopes to continue much, much longer! Boy can I relate to this video in every aspect!! Prayers to all on the same journey!!
I’m impressed with your transparency and honesty Charlene. I’ve never struggled with alcohol (I actually just don’t drink.) but have many friends who do. I’m so proud of you for starting this journey and then being vulnerable enough to share it. This will help SO MANY people. Good for you!!
I am 31 days sober, just cold turkey, just decided it was enough. Now (and not while drinking), I have headaches daily and aches and pains. I wake up this way and such a drag. I work out about 4 days a week, walking and strength training. I just hope it gets better.
Oh my goodness! I started watching this episode last night, while drinking but yes ofcourse with this thought of my need and plans to quit alcohol. I just watched it again because I was sure the message would come in clearer with a clear mind right?! I just wanted to thank you for your openness and honesty. FOMA....it applies to me. But also the side of me that knows my emotional health will get better once I quit. I just have start....much love to you and again, thank you for sharing.
awww! Thank you for sharing this! Getting informed and becoming sober curious is a huge step, and I’m glad you’re thinking about it. Just take it one step at a time.
Wow. I randomly found your channel thru an abbey sharp video. You're literally describing me and my struggle. I wish people talked more about the relationship aspect of drinking bc let's be honest, me and bf are more fun together when we drink. Omg so much of this video I felt like it was me saying this! With the partner not wanting to drink on a chill night in, and I'm thinking "why not?? This is boring". Thank you for this video honestly, I just "met" you but it's like it was meant to be
Argh- this was hard to face, I have known this information for a long time, and considered myself very in control of my alcohol consumption...however, the last two years have seen me lose my beloved brother-in-law, then my dad passed away, and then four months ago, my younger brother died suddenly as well. So I have definitely been using alcohol to mute my grief. Intellectually I know I am not doing myself any favours but it's really effective at numbing the pain. This is a good video and I know I have to face it and look at my long-term health, both mental and physical. I am going to start with baby steps and drink less. Thanks for your content and non-judgment. Much appreciated!
I’m so sorry for your losses, and I truly admire your honesty and self-awareness. Grief is incredibly hard, and it’s okay to take things one step at a time. Be kind to yourself on this journey-you’re already making positive moves just by being open. Sending you love and strength.
Omg this is everything I have said to myself!!! Friend wise, disappointed in my husband taking a night off tolerance fuzzy parts! Constantly obsessing about alcohol. Can’t even think of restricting! Thank you for this!!! I just found you after years after doing your exercise videos! I’m now a listener of your videos!!!!! Thank u! I want tomorrow to be my Day 1!!
You are a authentic brave beautiful person. My sister lived the very life you describe, ...until at 55 she began to age, gained weight, became sick and depressed, lost a great career job, drank more, developed hypothyroidism and high blood pressure, list her husband and then died of breast cancer at age 63. Her two best friends with similar Life styles also died of breast cancer 2-4 years after her passing. Liquor is poison and if you drunk and it can very easily kill.
Thank you for saying this out loud. I have been contemplating going into retirement alcohol free. I also started drinking in my teen years (65 now) and can identify with many of your 'ah ha' moments. I have stopped many times for 30, 60, and 100 days and realize that it would be in my best interest to stop completely.
FOMA!! I love and appreciate your openness and honestyI recently joined Phase It, have signed up for the 21-day walk more drink less challenge, and have been watching a lot of your videos, and am telling all of my friends about you. Started walking more, bought a walking pad, and have lost 26 lbs of the 45 I gained over the last year during cancer treatment. You have really inspired me to get moving again! THANK YOU!!
I quit eons ago, probably over 40 years. I didn’t like who I was when I drank. My mother in law said that there’s not one redeeming feature to alcohol. So me coming from a family of raging drunks, I think she speaks a truth.
Agree! In my 66 years the harms, devastation and death is horrible! The alcohol beverage industry made a huge push for greater acceptance and market share among women with Zima and white wine spritzers. It’s an ugly drug in liquid form
I just completed day 1, my goal is 1 year no alcohol but I hope it goes on forever. At minimum I binge drank twice a week consuming as much as I could in the shortest amount of time in an effort to make it seem like I didn’t spend a lot of time drinking. Recently got into liquor and this helped hide my volume and I found that I I liked high proof alcohol and enjoyed drinking neat, and I could do it without my family watching. Been drinking for 30 years, longest break from alcohol was 3 months 1 time. Made it a week a couple of times over all those years. Hoping to restore my relationship with my wife and get my health back on track.
Thank you for this episode. I feel your story is mine exactly. I only drink a couple drinks a night but I can’t find myself to stop. I drink to escape trauma. I need to quit and want to quit. This is my declaration and I hope I can do it.
@lisaangelos3184 You can do this. I'm 14 days alcohol free and I feel amazing. I'm just taking one day at a time. I have trauma in my life too, but I have decided to let go of that story and create a new story, which is empowering. I'm 55 and already feel stronger doing my workouts. We are the architects of our lives. Sending you strength and courage.
This might be my favorite episode of yours, which is saying a lot because I love your videos! I’m in the same situation, drinking with my husband most evenings. A few weeks ago I decided to not drink…this had also been on my mind for years. I’m all about health and fitness🙌 so why on earth would I be putting a toxin willingly into my body so often🤷🏻♀️ but it’s easy to justify when it’s a societal norm😅 I’m perimenopausal age 43, recovering after drinking is getting harder and less frequent…I wear a whoop strap which gives tons of information….definitely holds you accountable 😂 it’s difficult to break the habit, but you do look and feel so much better! Also more in touch with everything..body, mind and soul❤️ love this naked mind as well!! Thank you for your openness and honesty, your words will absolutely have a beautiful impact on many🥰
Awww! I really appreciate that so much! Thank you so much for your kind words! It’s amazing that you’re making such a positive change and focusing on your health. It really does make such a difference, body, mind, and soul! Keep trusting the process-you’re doing incredible. I’m so glad this resonated with you!
Two weeks zero booze here! Feeling great. I did not start drinking until after age 40 - I’m 56 now - but have lost four close family members to alcohol in the past five years, including my Dad two years ago. I’m not going down like that.
Same here , never really drank until 40ish! Now 57 and 60 days sober . I made up for not drinking in my younger years ! Decided it’s just not good for me at all and stopped ! Don’t miss it

I wanted to add a comment, but it doesn’t look like the normal comment section is open
I watched your video and I kept falling off the wagon, even though I do want to be free of alcohol.
Hi thinking of stopping weekend drinking, what do you drink on an evening out ? Oo on holiday? Xxxx
Today is the first day I have watched any of your videos. I've watched several already! 😅
I subscribed while watching the first one.
I'm in 🎉
Charlene... Thank you for sharing your feelings... So informative and inspiring... Just so you know... I needed to hear this... Thank you!
It is a miracle that your video popped up on my feed this morning. I have been determined to quit alcohol but struggling to do so. This video is exactly what I needed! Today is my Day 1! Thank you, Chalene❤ Pray for me🙏
Good luck! I'm 2.75 years sober!
Thank you! Day 2!@@sarahlockridge7879
Yay! It really is a struggle, right? Enjoy the freedom.
You’ve got this! ❤

I've been alcohol free for 13 years. I NEVER thought my life could be so fulfilled without a drop of it!!!
Exactly! Congratulations. So true.
Congratulations!!!!!
Same! I feel liberated ❤❤❤
Same! Happy 13 years-I am sharing in that with you! 🙌 best decision I’ve ever made for myself!!! 🎉❤
Way to go! Losing weight is such a bonus! That’s my main motivation (health benefits of course, but it’s the weight-loss that is my motivation).
I am see description and started a new system today. Which means no wine at home. I not sure how this will go but I know alcohol (wine) is preventing my to lose weight
Why even bother with the one drink?
Wow this is my story toooo
10 years sober here. Im 68 and feel amazing. Best thing I EVER did for myself. I lost 40 pounds started lifting weights...eating clean and look 10 years younger . Everything in my life got better.
OMG!! You are such an inspiration!

3 years sober here, already feel younger 😊
Amazing! Great job. I want to be like you.

oh good -- I'm 54 and need to Quit TODAY
Love to hear it! I’m 3 months sober from alcohol and 1 month sober from weed. I feel so much happier, healthier, and my brain is functioning properly again
Well done ❤
Awesome work
Oh you are doing amazing!!
I quit and gained 40 lbs in only 3 weeks... it's so insane and very depressing. I'm going back to drinking

I'm proud of YOU!!!!! 💯 I'm post menopausal. I'm 57. I trying to be you x 🏴🇬🇧
Pretty soon it will be another month alcohol-free! I quit 35 days ago and this will me a more ingrained habit once the holidays hit.
I want to do this 21 day challenge too!
Turned 47 yesterday, n I'm havin a hanging over🤣🤣🤣! Mostly from the party yester night, but anyway.. 😅 Not a big drinker other days..👍
I feel the same! Keep going! We deserve to have the freedom. ❤
Proof of you ❤❤❤
I quit drinking May 13, 2024. Just decided it did not benefit me anymore. I am so proud of myself and feel better all the way around! So proud of you Chalene!
July 24 I feel great!!🙌🏼
Stopping drinking was the BEST thing I ever did! I’ve never felt better!
7 weeks alcohol free! Lost weight, no more guts disease, better sleep. I feel fantastic!
wow!! You're doing amazing!! Keep it going!!! 💪🏻
I suspended my wine after listening to your podcast about making the 30 day challenge. It’s been almost 3 mths and no wine! I don’t even miss it. Thank you for the motivation!
I am 16 days no alcohol! My story is so close to yours. Thank you for the inspiration to keep going.

Well done. 👍👍👍🌷
Huberman Lab has an amazing vid on youtube about what happens to your organs and brain with just one drink. It shocks everyone I refer it to.

57 days AF🎉🎉🎉
For sure! I’ve seen it in my own family. It’s wild it doesn’t come with a warning label
Totally agree. It definitely becomes a habit and habits are HARD to break!
@@musiclove3618 l
That is because normal drinkers think alcoholism is a moral issue…. We could just quit if we had enough will power. ALCOHOLISM is a disease. The first one gets you drunk and you forfeit the ability to say no to the second one.
Name one alcoholic who intended to become one!
I stopped drinking alcohol about 1 month ago now. I had to get serious about reducing my inflammation. And I started getting symptoms of gout after I had 2 or more drinks in a night. Its nice to hear others are on the same track.
That's a smart decision! I hope you're noticing the positive changes already!

Alcohol never serves you. This lady you were influenced by is an alcoholic. Let’s get real.
Not sure why, but I never had the desire to drink. I'm grateful for that.
Me, neither!
good for you!
Oh I love this so much! I couldn’t agree more! It hasn't been a year yet I already feel so amazing!
@@chalenejohnson thank you Chalene, you’re an inspiration for sure.
I quit drinking beer and any alcohol I have never felt so much better and it feels great getting up in the morning. I still get the craving but I tell myself you will feel better in the morning if you don’t drink.
Waking up in the morning feeling amazing-how long has it been since you quit drinking?
I’m hitting my 1yr on Nov 26th and I’ve never felt better. My mind is clearer, I sleep like a baby now and I’ve seen major results in the gym…. But my main reason for why I stopped drinking is because I was in a toxic & abusive relationship and with not drinking it gave me clarity and the courage to get out ! One of the best decisions I’ve made. 🤗
Thanks to your original video am now alcohol free for 42 days! It was much easier than I expected, maybe because I feel so much better. At 55 years old hangovers are just awful. Thank you Chalene! ❤
Wow!!!!! That’s amazing 🤩 I’m so proud of us!
Muah!
Oh, you just don’t know how much I love this, Shannon! If I can do it, I know you can too! We got this!!
@keridrury Congratulations, that is amazing. Wishing you ongoing happiness and energy.
I couldn’t agree more! Congratulations on your 11th month!! Love that number!
I began this Monday 10/1… I am determined and I can use all of the support that I can get
Your story, history and self talk sounds exactly like my own. i am right behind you with 28 days alcohol free. It does get easier and i am feeling so much better.
You’re doing amazing!! Keep it going!!! 💪🏻
Congrats! You got this!
That’s incredible-congrats on 10 days alcohol-free! 🎉 I’m so glad the video and recommendations helped you take that step! KEEP IT GOING!!! 💪🏻
Great video Chalene! I am six months alcohol free. I feel so much better about myself especially in the mornings. I used to feel guilt about my drinking even though I wasn’t hungover. It’s so nice to wake up every morning feeling good!!! Thank you for your very honest perspective.
Congratulations! Waking up feeling amazing is one of the best motivators for me to keep going too!
I have followed you for a while and was always surprised that you drank because you are seemingly perfectly healthy. You look better just from the last 30 days! Keep up the good work! Living AF is everything ❤
Thank you so much! It’s been a journey, and I truly appreciate your support. Living alcohol-free really does feel amazing! ❤
Great advice! Thanks friend
I’m ready 🙏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼 Thank you, I needed to hear this tonight.
Let's do this!
in the last year, I have gone from nightly drinking to 1 or 2 nights...loving the change and also often take a month at a time off. thank you for your videos, you're the best.
Love this and show sometimes for people moderation does work xx
Good for you! So happy you're loving the changes!
The way you speak is so non-judgmental and welcoming. Just like talking to a true friend. You’re a wonderful example for me as a moody woman in perimenopause lol
I mean it with all my heart, THANK YOU!!!!! 💕
Oh I appreciate that so much! Thank for your kind words and for watching!
@@PinkelefantZ3 not to worry this too shall pass….. ❣️
I love this so much!
Almost 6 years sober and the healing in my life has been miraculous. Wish I stopped sooner. Thank you.
Aww! That's amazing, Karen! I'm happy for you!
Hi Chalene,
I love that you’re sharing your story with women.
One thing I learned is typically if you have to justify your behavior to yourself, then you already know what the right thing to do is.
One thing that helps me stay sober: If I think about having a drink on the same day that I also worked out, I feel like I'm throwing a $20 bill on the ground. One cancels the other out like it never happened. Feels like a waste of effort....😅
That’s so true plus half the returns for your efforts
Good for you!!!
Two months ! Wow, congrats Chalene ✨
I watched your last video and my husband and I decided to go to once a week. Ended up being every other week. Drinking mocktails while going out with friends has been a big help!
That’s awesome!
Your original video came to me exactly when needed and inspired me to stop, no regrets!!
Really?!?!?! That's amazing!
I listened to huberman a year ago. And although it made a lot of sense, it didn’t resonate with me like your words and acknowledgements have. Your vulnerability and honesty will help a lot of us figure out this journey. Thank you so much
Thank you for being so honest! You are a very brave woman!
So greatly appreciate that
Courage is the BEST virtue from GOD ✨🙏🏼!!! So proud of all the women here 💖!!! Courageous 🛡️Women of GOD ✨🙏🏼💖✨💖🙏🏼✨💖🙏🏼!!!
This is soooo helpful thank you ☺️
Age 51. Female. Gave alcohol the boot 10.5 years ago. Best thing I ever did. I made so many excuses to keep drinking until I sought help.
Amazing! It must be a tough journey but here you are, inspiring all of us! Thank you for sharing, Elvira!
I'm watching your video as I start Day 1 - thank you for being so open about, really, everything ❤️
Good for you. I find watching videos about the long term effects of alcohol helps when I feel like drinking.💪 You’ve got this😊
Are you afraid of withdrawals? My doctor prescribed Librium in case. Still haven’t started
Nice!! I'm so glad this video helps! We're in this together!! I'd love to hear updates from you soon!
Thank you for sharing. So glad that you are healthy and not dealing with breast cancer. Congratulations on the decision to stop drinking.
I’m so glad to hear you’re healthy, and congratulations on 9 months alcohol-free! Keep it going sis!!
@@chalenejohnson you too 🤩
I quit drinking about a month ago and I think you look absolutely beautiful btw!
Thank you for posting Jessica. I wish you success on this journey. I'm 14 days without alcohol and I'm feeling amazing.
I def know you've got this!! Let's do this together!
@@CanadianCarnivore2021 congrats!! 2 weeks in is amazing!!
I’m impressed with your transparency and honesty Charlene. I’ve never struggled with alcohol (I actually just don’t drink.) but
have many friends
who do.
Good for you, Chalene! I’m proud of you! I think you look younger lately!!❤
Thank you!!
So sorry for the loss of your sister. Thank you for sharing this important message with us all. Take good care.
THANK YOU!!
That’s amazing!!!!
Day 2 and already so much more at peace after real sleep.
We're in this together, Lisa! You can do this!
This is exactly what I needed to hear on my walk. I'm on day 5...
Thank you for this video. I needed to hear this. I am on my 30th day and I am doing well. ❤
Don’t miss it
Day 7 and so happy I found you!! 🎉
Nice! Keep it going! ❤️
