I Bought My First Tractor! (John Deere 8110)

  • I'm a little too excited to show the first Tractor! I spent the past couple of months searching for a nice used 7000 series or an 8000 series John Deere. I knew from the start I was gonna go with Deere (Sorry Case people, I just grew up around it, so I had to. Maybe a Case Combine coming tho!). The seller's were some of the nicest people I've met, and it was a well taken care of Tractor that seller's were proud of. The 8110 has 183hp, and has 4900 hours, is greenstar ready and has John Deere ATU 200 autosteer (I still need monitor and globe though if I every want to get autosteer working. I don't really need it atm though), has 450 rear weights, and 6 front weights. Everything is in perfect condition, maybe an upgrade in the future would be new rear rubber but we'll see about that.
Also 2nd part of the video is about getting the shop/living quarters/cold storage put up on one of the farms. Right now I'm thinking 60x120 for the entire building. Let me know if anyone has an experience or recommendations on building sizes/features.
    Thank again for watching guys!

Beautiful tractor! One of the best series Deere ever built. Not to butt in, but put the widest overhead door in your shop that your wall-space permits. Very smart going with 18’ eves...I did the same thing. You don’t wanna have to fold grain bin extensions down on your combine to get it in your shop...16’ high door is great. 20’ flex head on combine takes almost a 24’ wide door.

Heres the thing, just because your tractor may seem too big for your current acreage, the upside is, is not only does it cover a future expansion, but also you can run larger implements to expand your weather windows on field work. Some might argue its better to have two main tractors of lesser size, but 185 horses for your acreage is enough to get your tillage done quickly and haul a decent grain cart as well as everything in between. And not be maxing it out all the time. Congrats on the future! Wishing the best for ya!

I would add your living quarters off the side to make use of a bigger shop. You won’t regret it as you grow your operation. We built a 64X64 heated shoe with 20 foot of lean too on the first 64, which houses living area, kitchen, bathroom. Then the rest of the building is 64X136 open span cold storage with a 30X16 insulated roll up with 30X20 concrete approach. The front of the shop has a 28X16 insulated roll up. And then middle door leading from cold storage to shop is 18 foot. I would measure the width of a very large combine and tractor and make it the width of that and 1 foot bigger. You will be happy as it will make you able to grow into over many years. Very excited for you, cool to see you chasing your dreams. I was blessed to have a farm. Not many people can say they are doing what your doing. Kudos

I’ve watched several farming videos and most never get in the cab with their shoes on, they leave them on the step outside. Me, I would put a mat inside and set my shoes on it, these tractors are like being in a house, so take care of it. To me the first thing every day before getting into the cab, CHECK THE OIL, it can tell you a lot about what’s going on.

A 1760 jd planter, is just a 7200 with more electronics. Just with the 8110 going from 12th to 13th I'd back keep throttle at around 1800 cause it's changing from one clutch pack to the other and it makes the shifts much smoother once last that you can full throttle shift it

What a buy. Those JD 8010 series are one of the best. Just wish you could buy a new tractor with out all the emissions junk. We have 2- 8310s. By far the best larger tractors that we’ve owned. About the only thing I would change on yours would be to switch over to LED lighting. If you add any lights on the back, you will have some alternator issues. So one thing to think about. Best of luck with your farm. Just remember to budget off the low side of income. Never know when the markets will fall apart

Look at 1660 and 1680 case combines if you want, they should be cheap, common, and pretty simple to fix, and have plenty of capacity for your acres plus some. Also they leave a pretty clean sample if set right.

Grant, for your house and building you should 100% think about using hydronic floor heating system. My family just build an airport hangar home concept with a house in the hangar and the entire hangar concrete floor and house flooring has underlayment with hydronic water tubes in the concrete. Heated via propane at a consistent 68 degrees year round. We live in Nevada and in the winters it's consistently below freezing overnight, and it keeps the 120x80 foot hangar a consistent 68 degrees the entire winter. For relatively inexpensive propane cost. Would highly recommend you look into it. And in the house we hardly use the heaters btw.

Squad, consider getting a lean to on your shop. You can get a 30x120 and it's cheap roof space it is really easy for them to extend off your building. Try and get a quote with that added on. It can double roofing space and is always worth it.

Actually looking at building a barn dominium like your shop and cold storage area. One thing I was told is that you want a like a solid cinder block wall between the shop and living area because you don’t want fumes and stuff coming in. Sure you’ve heard about it but just thought I’d throw it out there, love the videos and good luck!

Honestly I’d got 18 or 20ft doors. A dual wheel combine is between 16 to 17ft wide. If the operation grows to that, you won’t be able to get inside. Or a 15ft grain drill or a 6 row planter if you gotta back them through the doors you’ll have to watch it like a hawk. Something to really think bout. Your building a building big enough planning for the future, I’d make the doors with plenty or room for growth

You can never have enough horse 🐎 power. Great buy! Please don't ever be loyal to one brand. I have all makes and model tractors there all great. I have a 1200 cih early riser corn planter I love it. And this past year I bought a 410 John deere 30ft grain drill i love it as well.. they were both used when i bought em. Anyways what I'm getting at is farming in real life is not easy. So when you buy equipment base it on price $$ not color.
