Heather Day | In The Studio

- Day travels seeking stories of all kinds-stories behind people, places, sound, and nature-and brings them home to her San Francisco studio to create an interpretation. Each of us sees the world differently through a screen of personal experiences. Day chooses to communicate interpretations through layers of overlapping paint, expressing moments at every seam, edge, and line. Each mark represents a language of dynamic motion, allowing compositions to read like handwriting-from one side to another.
Working primarily with paint and non-traditional materials, recent work is a reflection of travels in nature. Heather Day spends time collecting moments from wooded areas, agitated rivers, and panoramic views of the ocean and convey them through medium washes and emphatic marks. Color is used like punctuation-as a means to control the energy and direct the eye. The process demands motion, requiring the entire body, not just the hand. She's pouring and manipulating paint into its own current, using a range of motions. Each painting ultimately seeks to balance the progression of growth and upkeep found in both nature and the act of painting.

Witch 8
This type of art, anime, 'trendy' pop art influenced cartoons , instagramable pop-up interactive pieces and satisfying calligraphy is sadly the only art on the internet anymore
Amazing, I love your work.
Its so refreshing to see abstract art on RUclips. I absolutely love it!!
love it, an artist at work, creating
no BS talk about ART this ART that
Beautiful results from an exciting process. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for showing us what can be done with the manipulation of materials. Ignore the negative comments below. They are childish, and really know nothing about abstract techniques. I think your paintings are wonderful.
Love your work! My maiden name is Day.
I just noticed that the video of her painting at the river doesn’t exist anymore, does anyone know where I could watch it? Because that was the most smoothest video I have ever watched before
Absolutely beautiful. I was asked a question when does an artist and artwork become alive at the same time. This is one of them where one engages in that art making process of creation. Love it
0:07 is that just water she’s pouring ?
Very nice Heather. Really enjoy chatting with you at WE.
I like your process. Gonna steal parts.

Good work's 👍👍
I am wondering where you get your big canvases from?
This was inspirational! I needed this today. Thanks, Heather! : )
Oh my, What talent! Pour paint and scrape it around. I'm sure you have a fine arts degree because anyone else wouldn't consider this "art".
Beautiful
With all that water there is no binder for paint!

L O V E your work!
Very nice
Ese tipo de obras hace que las personas se alejen del arte.
Todo ahí es azar. ¿Qué comunica una que no lo haga otra?
Omg absolutely love this
these look like my kids finger paintings
interesting techniques .
Wow, my 5-year-old does the same thing with his paints, he's not a selling artist though... LOL
If you think its the same try selling it on etsy without telling people the age of the artist, and report back how long it takes to make a sale....were gonna be waiting a looooong time.
Nice 👍ładne 👍
🤩🤩🤩
Amazing!... I watched this impressive art video...
Има ли луди, които купуват това?

could you please make a video about human anatomy?
Pure meditation
On a rien Melle ?
YOU’RE A HEATHER
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Maybe there is something wrong with me, because a lot of people around me say this kind of art, is art, and has something in it, yet I'm still not getting it. It seems like something that a person who likes art would paint but has no real talent. Or someone who is an opportunist for money and "fame".
Close enoung. I like art and I'm not good at drawing and painting real objects and I love abstract art because everyone can do it
Someone that paints in a similar way as me omg xx
nice
Boo ooo ooo
Awwwh nice!
When painting nearly died🙂
Clean ya bucket
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
More like decoration not art. Ok decorative art but that's a stretch. Guess art needs hype with only a limited number of good art that can't be even bought/sold.
"My 5 YeAr Old DOes ThE SaMe ThIng" - People in the comments.
Ok then, try selling it without telling people the age of the artist and see how far you get 😂
@Philip Gomez They either sell because its fairly good, or because they're 5 years old. Like i said try selling your kids art without telling people the age and you'de get a firm reality check on the difference between a 5 year old throwing paint around and a professional abstract artist.
@Philip Gomez Painting with the spirit of a child with a professionals understanding of painting isn't the same as any old kid doing finger paintings though. I agree with what you said I'm just saying not all abstract art is created equal. Some of it is ridiculous and rubbish, but some of it is incredible and very hard to pull off, as someone who has painted abstracts believe me it doesn't happen by accident.
@Philip Gomez And abstract art is literally everywhere, from desktop backgrounds, to advertisements, to movie posters, its everywhere...but as soon as someone paints it on a canvas people say its fake art, and anyone could do it....but its not as simple as that.
No sorry I am artist myself but what u do is wast of canvas and colours ... art must have putting hard work on it.
But you just put colours everywhere and mix them up . Which any one can do that. Then put high prince on it . Which not fair ... my opinion
I myself am a representational artist, but I find abstract artists to be some of the most talented painters I've known. I understand that a lot of people do not find abstract art to be as technically demanding as representational art, and sometimes that might be the case, but abstraction is something beyond visual representation. It conveys an emotion or an experience, rather than images of tangible things. It's unmeasurable by normal standards, making it more complex. I suggest you try abstraction (or at least experimenting with infusing abstract elements in your representational art). It's liberating, yet complicated. Plus, it's very beautiful!!!
I commented on one of her other videos saying that a 5 year old could do her art and I got slated for it ! It's all well and good being expressive but come on 🤣
Thank you Rard Almario! Artist are open minded curious people who admire other artists who are working authentically just because this is what it is really about - not your skill level determined by some other criteria than what you may be searching for or exploring. Be yourself and respect our differences; it is good for us, and all! Especially as artists, please!
I am surprised that someone who considers himself an artist has such a limited vision. You should try to understand the real meaning of the term "ART"
S B we should respect artists please
Sorry if I sound ignorant. But isn’t that just paint with water poured over it and dried? What’s so special about this? I’m sure she’s a great artist but this seems rather useless and quite childish. Lik anyone can do this, even a 5year old, it’s nothing breathe taking in my view. Explain please if you can
Hey Abbi! Abstract art is definitely hard to approach for a lot of people. It's about appreciating the formal aspects of the work (color, shape, compositions, texture) and letting yourself react to those aspects in a visceral way. There's some great articles online about the history of abstract art, and the meaning behind it. As for the "my kid could do this" argument, well technically, yes a kid can pour paint on a canvas, but maybe that's not the point. Typically with kids, their style will shift dramatically and quickly, they primarily ape other art they've seen, rather than find a unique voice and continue making work in that voice. With Heather, you can look back through the work on her website and see a consistency, and maturity throughout the years of her career. She's academically trained, impressively awarded, and she's shown her work in some impressive galleries/museums. Hope this helps! heatherday.com
yes, hypothetically a five-year-old could make this... but they didn't...did they?
There's alotta interesting thought and theory behind this kind of work, which changed the world and how we see it -literally. That's part of the value of this kind of painting.
also, why not have a go at painting something like this? you might find it harder than you expected to make one that works...
Oh no :c
