Easy! Just save the gbXML file as normal. Open it with 'notepad', click File, Save as.., then change the encoding to UTF-8 and save it as a .txt file. Then simple change the file extension back to .gbXML! It should open nicely in Ecotect then.

The simplest approach would be to include a very basic block model of the neighbouring building. Make sure this has the right overall dimensions and relative position to your structure.

However, I am not able to download ArchiCAD 17 since the graphisoft site is having some problems at the moment.
