This was EXTREMELY HELPFUL! I am installing an LED Bar on the roof of my 2021 Kia Seltos and the Grommet was packed full of wires in the middle "open" area, I didn't realize you could just poke a hole on the side, Thank you! More importantly, I never laughed so hard while learning...with that Child Labour...LOL!!!

I’m very glad this dude wasn’t my dad. I assisted my dad in many “projects”, ranging from electrical wiring, auto repair, house remodeling, to, well, you name it. He ALWAYS told me what we were going to do, what actions each of us would take, and what to expect. I learned how to do things from my dad, not how to feel ashamed for screwing up.

Check out grommet wire insertion tools. They make getting wire through a grommet so easy.
I seriously hope no one is doing it this way. The main harness grommet is not meant to be punctured ever and its not self sealing.
as long as you dont plan to take your car swimming you should be fine
@@jonathnclark not true, any moisture in the engine bay will find the hole. Now if you don't plan on keeping the car long term sure.
@@kcobabe ah i guess thats true im still trying to figure out how to do mine i have the 98 firebird and where everyone else is leading the positive theres some bolts that hold the computer to the body seem to be torqued down by God himself and im not seeming to find any other accesable grommets besides maybe the driveshaft grommet but that seems so small that it will rub on the wire and i sure enough dont wanna drill

A GoPro with head mount allows for 2 hands at all times. Of course it's an investment that some cannot make, but if you are going to do these type or other type videos, it would be a good tool for when you have to hold a camera. Thanks btw for the video, very useful information. I do not have a long grab-bie tool thingie, but I have the old school wire coat hanger do about anything tool. 😂

One concern I have: That's a huge hole you made in the firewall grommet. I wonder whether you have leakage?

I did the same thing and thought I had pushed the screwdriver through the wire harness because of the location it pops out on the other side under the hood right beside where the wires run down.. I wouldn’t recommend this method could’ve easily damaged the wiring to the pcm
