    Lovely frame, I like the simplicity of it sitting in a stand. You might want to put a couple of thin strips of tape inside the score lines while applying the oil so that the glue has some unfinished wood to bond to. Great colours of the wood too.

      Thanks Marc! Good idea with the tape on the score lines... I definitely agree with that!

    Really great project as always! I have a question, hoping you can maybe help me. When I cut and engrave mahogany on my Glowforge, one of my favorite woods, I notice that when cutting there is a lot of flaring, and when engraving, there is a fine layer of powdery char all around the design (which comes off when I peel off the masking) and I’ve been reading a lot from others who say the same thing. I recently purchased some sapele from Smokey Hill Designs (LOVE them!!) and haven’t tried it yet. I heard it’s also a type of mahogany- not sure if that’s true or it just has similar properties- but I was wondering if you have any of the same issues with sapele as I have with mahogany? Thanks for your time Catherine!

      Thanks so much! Glad you bought from Smokey Hill - they're great! To answer your question - yes, I definitely have had similar outcomes when using the Sapele. I haven't had many issues with it though - just some flaring here and there but it never has destroyed any of my projects. If you get this issue, I would personally try reducing the power, but not sure if that would end up giving you a cut that doesn't go all the way through. But like I said, I've used Sapele a lot and it rarely gives me burning issues. I've done many intricate projects with it as well and the masking has protected it well.

      @@85thandPine ok, good to know and I am hoping to try some of the Sapele tomorrow so I’ll do some experimenting if I need to. Thanks so much for your quick reply.. really appreciate it!😊 And whoops, I wrote Smokey MOUNTAIN.. duh! Just fixed it 😆

    Beautiful work!!! One question, do you need to purchase a special program to operate the GlowForge?

    • @85thandPine
      @85thandPine  3 года назад +1

      Thank you so much! No, you do not need to purchase any program. Glowforge itself operates on a web-based program that you just login to, and they have special features that you can buy with it, but it’s not necessary to operate. I didn’t buy the special features. Also, I use a program to create my designs called Inkscape. That is free as well. There are other design software programs like Adobe Illustrator that you have to pay monthly for but Inkscape is very similar and free. 😊 -Catherine

    I love this frame...your step by steps are so easy to follow! so you mind sharing what fonts you used? Thanks! Tammy

      Thanks Tammy! I'm glad you love it. I used "My Hope" for the cursive font (I bought it on Creative Market) and I think I also used "Comfortaa" downloaded for free on 1001fonts.com.

      I normally would but at this time I cannot take on custom design requests. Sorry! But thank you for asking.

      Hi! I explain in the video what kind of wood I used and I have the recommended settings I used as part of my purchased listing for the digital file on my Etsy shop. I also have materials listed in the description of this video.
