Lonnie, you are right. I just went to a funeral service today, and thank God my friend lived long enough to see his children grow. He was a hell of a man. Rip my friend.

When I was young, I thought I would never get married, but I did, when I was 28. Then thought I would never have kids, but I did, when I was 32.. My dad died when I was 17 and for that reason, I would listen to this song and pray I would live to watch my boys grow up. Shortly after that somehow, and I still don't know what happened, it just seemed like I turned around and now I'm 66 years old. I've been retired for a year and my boys grew up wonderful (I knew they would) and now I'm watching my 3 year old granddaughter grow. I guess I made it past "too old to die young," but now I pray my boys can do the same and, I hope can stay a little longer and see what happens. Seems like life before 20 lasts forever, but shortly after, it just fly's by! I don't know where the last 48 years went but, I went fast!
I love Moe Bandy and his music, he is such a great storyteller and his lyrics seem to come from real life stories. "Americana", and "Bandy the Rodeo Clown" are also Moe,s songs and have also long been favorites of mine.

The more of my friends that leave this world, the more the song hits home, and someday someone, hopefully, will be saying this about me. Rest in Peace to all my dear friends that have preceded me in death. When you stop and think about it. We are all like a candle, and one swift breeze and we are out.

Hearing this tonight on our local "country classics" show made me a bit sad; it was written by Kevin Welch, the occasion being the birth of his daughter Savannah, who became a founding member of the indie group The Trishas. They happened to be together shopping a farmer's market last month in Texas when she was struck by a car and ended up losing a leg. Wishing all the best for her journey of recovery.
