  • The Adventures Of OLOH continue on this leg from Fort Myers to Naples, Florida as we work our way on down to boating paradise in the Florida Keys. It's an early morning departure from the City Of Fort Myers Yacht Basin as we set a course for the Naples Sailing and Yacht Club
    Along the way we try for an important fix that has our boat running in circles, we feel the effects of the red tide and we're pretty sure we heard Jasper-the-rescue-dog speaking english. Plus, if you've never seen how rack storage for boats works, we give you a little glimpse. It's pretty cool.
    You can read all about this part of our adventure here: myoloh.com/clo...
    We also mention a few things in this video that are critical to us when we're docking OLOH.
    For more on the headsets we use, be sure to check out myoloh.com/olo....
    For more on our Yacht Controller system, check out myoloh.com/olo....
    And, as always, we love to hear your comments or questions.
    Cheers!

      Thanks! He does really enjoy it, particularly when we're cruising. But you'll never see him more excited than when we pull up to a marina at the end of a run. The chance to meet new people and possibly get a treat from the marina office? Yeah, that's the best for Jasper.

    Did not know the red tide affected lung functions. Continuing to learn something new every day. Excellent work entering the small opening to tie up. Jasper, always calm...!

      Thanks Jerry. Yeah, as we said, we were really surprised by the sensation that quickly came on. It was a shame because we really like stopping over in Naples but it made it difficult to be outside unless we were away from the water. Fortunately it only happens periodically. And yes, Jasper is the zen puppy 😎

  • @richselo9007
    @richselo9007 3 года назад +1

    Naples was the worst harbor we encountered on the the Loop for getting waked and total disregard of navigation rules. I love the “marriage savers”. We use use Senna SPH 10’s that fit around the neck and don’t interfere with caps and sunglasses. We also use a Yacht Controller, as we are 2 handing a 48’. Those 2 things have made handling the boat much less stressful. The other thing I found helpful were easy stow fenders especially going thru locks.

    • @OLOH
      @OLOH  3 года назад

      Funny you mention the inflatable fenders - we're getting a set for extra protection at the docks when it's super windy. The Senas seem to be very popular but they didn't work well for us. But whatever the device, good two-way communication and the Yacht Controller do make a huge difference. Happy cruising!

    Great video once again! I wanted to know your possible thoughts on setting your anchor at the water line for Marina arrivals or departures in case of a emergency of the mains ever unexpectedly shutting down?
    Also would you ever consider doing a video of “How to” with everything you do step by step with shore power and generators step by step on arrival/departure, still learning and don’t want to destroy anything!! Or possibly recommend a great video about this? Thanks again!
    As always, I appreciate your expertise and great videos!

    • @OLOH
      @OLOH  3 года назад +1

      Hey Stephen - We have never done that with the anchor and would be too concerned on OLOH with damage from swinging (our anchor is 120 lbs). There can be a lot of abrupt maneuvers in close quarters that could cause too much momentum for a hanging weight like that. Haven't heard of or seen it done either but we get the sentiment. We do make a regular practice of confirming our windlass's functionality on a regular basis so we know it's working if we quickly need it. We think that should be a regular part of any cruiser's checklist.
      We actually have been shooting more operational aspects of the boat and plan to include them in a future video. But if you ever have any questions, we're always happy to try to answer them. Cheers!

    We sure enjoy your laid-back journey... the attitude of peace, fun and adventure seems to resonate with us. We could get two of our vans on your yacht but convincing my wife to leave land and be one of the ones going under the bridge has been a challenge. BTW, noticed familiar titles in your video... do you also edit with LumaFusion on your iPad? Thanks for view of life aboard. Maybe one day. Enjoyed the video! When was this recorded such that the red tide was so bad? I'm planning a charter in the Ft Meyers area, want to choose the season to minimize chances of red tide.

    • @OLOH
      @OLOH  3 года назад +1

      Really glad you enjoyed it. This was recorded in early January. We can't say we have a full handle of when the red tide is more likely to crop up but thankfully it is the exception rather than the rule. There's a really helpful website we use to track it when we're traveling in Florida: myfwc.com/research/redtide/statewide/. Enjoy your charter! That area has some of our favorite cruising grounds anywhere.

Bob423, as he's known, is Waterway Guide's AICW guru and has extensive resources that really take a lot of the stress out of cruising the ICW. If you're on FB, search for the group "ICW Cruising Guide by Bob423." Hope that helps. Enjoy!

    • @OLOH
      @OLOH  3 года назад +2

      And it's a great question we get asked a lot. While a lot of dogs on boats are potty trained, Jasper is not. However, we rarely cruise for more than six or seven hours at a clip, and even a rare ten hour day underway is OK with him. When we're at anchor we get him to shore at least four times a day.
