Later, I would go to which ever club he was performing drag in Montrose area. I was one of the few straight Cats with a front row seat to the creation of Amazing Grace. He was such a wonderful, giving Cat. When I saw him in LDDS, I was excited and saddened. He was always tiny... but I could see he was sick. When I lived in Dallas I ran into some people who knew him..they was all in the drag world and one of them was his cousin. They said he was really nice in real life and that he could fight. They said he was NOT scared to throw down in a good ole fight. They even showed me a few pictures of him that not too many people have seen (along with his funeral program obituary); It's sad he didn't get to see himself in one of the most underrated yet iconic black movies ever made. May he continue to Soul Sail In his Heavenly Journey.. 😇 PS it was also sweet of Mr Wayans have him in this movie considering his sexuality..Mr Wayans did NOT have to do that. The fact that most of the clips on RUclips of A Lowdown Dirty Shame are Waymon’s scenes is a true testament of his talent and legacy. Sad he wasn’t able to capitalize on it while he was young. RIP
He (as Amazing Grace) was still performing nightclubs in Dallas, right up until his final hospitalization. He was definitely the big ticket in the gay community. Standing-room only and packed to the rafters like sardines. He branched out to neighboring states for appearances when it was still very much the rare privilege of a precious few in the drag world. They’d fly him out first class to clubs in MO, OK, CO, AZ, and L.A. He was a hard worker, and his passing was such a loss to those of you that never saw him live. He had a lot of respect for his audience and gigs, and such was his regional success at that point that he became well-known for wearing expensive Chanel suits and Papagallo shoes onstage. I wish you had shown him as Amazing Grace because he looked SO real, even right up-close. And just gorgeous. When we heard he’d died we were shocked as his illness had been kept secret. But more than that, we felt sadness that we would never see him perform again. The In Living Color gay saloon sketch with Damon Wayans as a gay Old West cowboy was totally lifted off a Corwyn Hopkins bit. Especially the straw thing he did with his lips. That was signature Amazing Grace. A character he did called ‘Debrah Debrah!’

I’d still watch A Low Sown Dirty Shame whenever I saw it on even if I owned it. 😊

Great Job Comedy Hype, I had No Idea Corwin Hawkins died before he saw how much audiences loved his scenes. The part in the club when he cut eyes at Keenan 6:05 cracks me up to this day. Rest in peace

I remember seeing his name in memory during the end credits of the movie. He was gone way too soon. His first breakout role was, unfortunately, his last! He's still missed. This guy was hilarious!!

The fact that most of the clips on RUclips of A Lowdown Dirty Shame are Waymon’s scenes is a true testament of his talent and legacy. Sad he wasn’t able to capitalize on it while he was young. RIP

He (as Amazing Grace) was still performing nightclubs in Dallas, right up until his final hospitalization. He was definitely the big ticket in the gay community. Standing-room only and packed to the rafters like sardines. He branched out to neighboring states for appearances when it was still very much the rare privilege of a precious few in the drag world. They’d fly him out first class to clubs in MO, OK, CO, AZ, and L.A. He was a hard worker, and his passing was such a loss to those of you that never saw him live. He had a lot of respect for his audience and gigs, and such was his regional success at that point that he became well-known for wearing expensive Chanel suits and Papagallo shoes onstage. I wish you had shown him as Amazing Grace because he looked SO real, even right up-close. And just gorgeous. When we heard he’d died we were shocked as his illness had been kept secret. But more than that, we felt sadness that we would never see him perform again. The In Living Color gay saloon sketch with Damon Wayans as a gay Old West cowboy was totally lifted off a Corwyn Hopkins bit. Especially the straw thing he did with his lips. That was signature Amazing Grace. A character he did called ‘Debrah Debrah!’
I really appreciated this update.. it’s sad he died so young but he definitely left an impression on screen and was definitely hilarious!!

Low down dirty shame was a classic he could of did a sequel to it. But waymon will never be forgettable. He had some of funniest parts in the movie. May he r.i.p
My best friend who's now in heaven used to crack up at Wayman saying to Keenan, "Good mornin' Shaaame!" I still have that memory of her imitating him and rolling. Hope they're up there laughing together now.💕
