$5,000 USD on deposit at BROU bank for 6 months and as Mark states a record of where the funds came from ( a clean money trail as UY has anti-money laundering laws) BROU bank has an amazing online bill payment software program, tells you when an account is due, gives a reminder and tells you what you owe. Great banking systems here, I really rarely go to a branch as most transactions involving cash are through a Cambio. Canadian pension OPP and CPP can be directly deposited here in Uruguay.
@@supermiggie6217 He said from your own country. I suppose a hydro bill would be most common as that is the one i will bring from Canada before i leave for Uruguay in Feb. 2025.
I read there is a 2/1000th of a % charge on money entering your bank account or 20$ for a 10K dep. also i have read if that amount of dep. or higher let's say in the millions of usd was made via a Bank Wire from Canada for instance then that 2/1000th % charge does not apply?
This is very helpful. I do have one question. Most people in the US file their income taxes online now. What form does your tax return have to be in to be accepted by a Uruguayan bank? Is simply downloading it and printing it at home acceptable, or do they require some sort of formal verification?
So true. I can imagine for expats it is a shock but most all can absorb it but what about the poor or low income locals now that must really hurt them something fierce.
@@supermiggie6217 The utility bill they want is one from abroad. You will be opening an account as a non-resident, so it acts as proof of your address abroad.

Hi. A utility bill is an electricity, gas or water bill, showing your address on it. Mark
Hello mark, thank you for your answer. Does this bill have to be of an Uruguayan adress or does that not matter? Thx

Once you’ve initiated opening the bank account in person, must you stay in Uruguay the two to four weeks necessary to complete the account opening?
No, that is not necessary.

Pleasure! I'm pretty sure that a print out if just fine. But you'd want to check with the bank in advance -- best, Karen
$50 a month for a bank account? That’s nuts! In US I have checking, savings, debit card, ATM network, and I don’t pay one cent!
That’s why we mentioned it.
Yes, it is expensive, but it's a case of when in Rome..... Some things here are more expensive and others are cheaper.

i have a question
i have online work , when i move in uruguay what documents the bank need to have an account there ?
Hi! They want a bank reference letter, a utility bill and proof of income.

What are the documents needed to open up a special deposit trust account?
Hi. Sorry I do not know what you mean! But trusts are not really recognised here in Uruguay so probably this is not a possibility. Mark
Hey karen, thx for the content, what exactly is this utility letter of the homecountry that he is talking about?
Hey there Supermiggie, sure thing. I'll ask Mark to clarify for us. Cheers, Karen
