    Thank you for sharing! A grand car for sure. There has never been a better location for dimming the high beams than on the floor. Interestingly, on cars equipped with automatic headlight dimming, that same foot-activated switch was used to tune the radio.

    Liked video. I graduated HS in 1977, and remember riding once in one of these. While the ride in your car might have been a little rough at high speeds, or over some bad roads, it may have to do with the age of the suspension. The one I rode in was so smooth. You could go over a railroad track and if a cup of coffee was on the dash, it wouldn't spill a drop.

    Awesome car! I'm 46 and my Mom's parents my grandparents kept these in the 70s early 80s. My Grandpa only would buy Lincoln's and Mercury Grand Marquis. He did buy a Crown Victoria once or twice. He worked at Ford's in Illinois. He was the vice president in 1987. He and my grandma bought a new 1989 light brown Mercury Sable LS. Very nice car but he didn't like it lol and went back to a 88 Lincoln Town car which was dark brown another beautiful car. Nice video dude.. Be safe ..

      @@hondayamahafan make sure you check your power seat switches, they are prone to corroding, melting, and catching fire and have caused cars to burn up in the past. I've heard of people taking some out of 90s town car and splicing them in to prevent fires but I've yet to try it myself. I have a 79 Collectors series and it rides like a dream. They are very comfortable cars.

    My aunt had a Town Car this same color, but she had the turbine wheels that were ribbed. Always loved riding with her in it. The best times were............... going to the drive in. It was an extra special evening. She got a Fleetwood after this in 1980. It was a pretty car too, but I always enjoyed the Town Car. My uncle drove a 1979 black Eldorado, and a Delorean. They were extra cool.

    I had only two six by nines. They were Pioneer four way 300 watts max, 75 watts rms!! Powered by Solid four hundred watt rms, four channel amp!! Had five and a quarter speakers in the doors!! And you are right about the massive air space in the trunk magnifying the sound!! I had more than enough bass with that set up. I had a 1976 Lincoln Town Coupe!!!

      Sounds like a bumping system. I can't remember the output on the retro sound head unit but it drives the 6x9s well. The door speakers are very minimal in comparison. Trying to fit 6x9s in the doors is on my bucket list. Along with 3D printing new grills so the whole set up looks factory.

    Well done video, good overview and nice camera work. I have a 1978 Town Car myself, and I agree these truly were the last of the great Lincolns. Nothing rides as good as these although the 80s models do come close. I too have the problem of rust under the vinyl roof, being a New England car mine is swiss cheese under there but I plan to remove it fix the rust and go with just metal and paint the roof. They made them with no vinyl top special order but having it was all the rage back then, personally I think they look much cleaner without it. One suggestion on something to look at mechanically- these cars used a nylon camshaft gear on the timing set and this is prone to breaking, plastic fragments can get into oil pickup tube and cause starvation or worse the engine can skip time if a tooth is missing. It's a big job to replace but good insurance, a good metal timing chain and gears will last a long time.

    You will want to change the seat switches out for both the driver’s side and passenger side. They are notorious for randomly catching on fire and destroying the car. I went to a junk yard and found some off of a 92 Town car. You have to change the wiring a little bit so that the switches function the same, but it’s peace of mind. I love your car. I have had a 76 one and now I own a 79. I am slowly restoring it. Mine sat out for about 20 years too.

      Yes I still have the car, and I'll look into a universal kit. Also I'm aware that not all of the things I mention in the video are exclusive to the Lincoln, but many people my age and younger have never seen features like that so I felt it would be interesting to point them know. Thanks for watching!

    Check the vacuum lines and headlight switch, you've got a leak in the system. That's why your headlights bleed up. But great video!

    Good video... but at 3:30 the light switch isn't "pretty unique". Virtually all US-made auto light switches from the 50's to the 80's (and some through the '90's) worked in the identical way. It's an excellent system.

    • @hondayamahafan
      @hondayamahafan  5 лет назад +2

    • @montymatilda
      @montymatilda 5 лет назад

      I had a 77 coupe, 2-86 continentals + an 89 town car. When they downsized in 80 the vent windows went with a frame between the vent and door glass. In the 70's the vent slid up the door glass with no frame between, just a molding/rubber on the vent. It would be interesting to see if any of the parts interchange. I have an 83 grand marquis with 38,000 miles - it has crank vents, but power everything else. I have never seen power vents on an 80's Vic or GM., only the Lincolns. Both the 70's & 80's power vents were cool. I still really miss my 77.

    • @hondayamahafan

      Drivetrain stuff, like the engine parts are easy because they're just common Ford stuff. All the body and interior stuff is hard to find. The clock was difficult. Try to find as complete of a car as you can find.

    Have you had any ignition problems or had to replace anything as far as that goes, my 75 Lincoln wont start because the starter wont come on. I replaced the starter, all the cables, solenoid, new battery and still nothing.

    • @hondayamahafan
      @hondayamahafan  5 лет назад +1

      Try bypassing the solenoid, or connect the turn on wire for the solenoid to the battery to engage it. That will tell you if it's something with the starter. Also check the ground strap to the engine block. And from the block to the firewall. Grounds are very important on these cars. Also keep an eye on the ignition box mounted on the fender, mine melted and left me stranded. They're $20 at O'Reilly. Last but not least, the ignition switch on mine can be sticky after not driving it for a while. Cycle it a couple of times and it should come back. Hope this helps!

    • @Jk-kq6qh
      @Jk-kq6qh 5 лет назад

      @@hondayamahafan Which wire is the turn on for the solenoid, is it the s or i or the black ground wire that mounts under the mounting bolt on solenoid, and do i put it on the hot or negative for the battery, thanks for your help.

    • @hondayamahafan
      @hondayamahafan  5 лет назад +1

      On mine there's just one wire that goes on the two small terminals of the solenoid. Remove it and use a jumper wire from there to the positive terminal on the battery.
