Guitar tabs are an easy way to show which strings and frets to play, making it simple to learn songs like "Ode to Joy." Thanks for sharing, Lauren! - Lipika - Team Evan Carmichael
I agree that Lauren is a fantastic teacher! A friend of mine just loaned me a guitar four days ago and I can already play Jingle Bells, which I will play on Christmas Day and my granddaughters will be singing along! 🎅
Thank you Lauren, it is good to read the guitar tablature with its actual music sheet notations side by side The tablature helps to visualise where to play the note number in the guitar fretboard while the music sheet note gives a better time representation and standard music notations. Thanks for showing the tablature to beginners starting to learn the guitar.
I know I’ve said it already Lauren, but your instruction on learning guitar is by far the best on the internet! You are so clear and concise. It really simplifies the learning process. I come from playing the drums to now learning guitar (for about the last four months now) And your methods have helped tremendously. Thanks again!
Hello Lauren, yes we all make mistakes every days a school day as well. Hope you are well nice to catch up now and again even though we are a ocean apart, take care.
Thank you for creating and sharing this content. I love when you reference tab being totally opposite of the guitar. Gets me all the time. BEST AND PEACE
Lauren recently came back to re learn the guitar. Lost tip of my left index finger/fretting hand. So only able to use fingers 2,3, and 4 to fret. So was wondering if you have a reference book/guide for alternative fingerings for open chords as you sometimes use. Ex. the easy c chord. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks and love your videos
You are such a great teacher. You explain every step yet quickly put each one together. BTW: Hope you are enjoying your PRS SE Piezo! I love that color!
Thank you LB. I have read many people refer to "tabs for guitar" but I had no freaking clue. This helps tremendously. Now, to a NON guitar question, are you a fan of TBBT? I am just curious as they, as you most likely know, are big fans of the comic book super heroes.
Hi , first off I love your videos , I know you said it some where but with your internet leading does it matter if it’s acoustic or electric guitar with your classes ? Thank you ! Keep doing what you’re doing!
Beautiful lesson Lauren, I never realized tab sheets are reverse of the fret board. One question, I have larger hands and certain chords I cannot keep from smashing down two strings. Are there any brands that use a wider neck to allow more string spacing?
HeCoversMe. -- you may have already solved your problem. But if you're open to possibly getting another guitar, a classical guitar provides more space between strings due to the 52mm nut size. Just a thought.
As a lefty, I struggle a bit with mentally transposing regular tabs to my left-handed fretboard. At least, that's my excuse for my slow progress and I'm sticking to it! 😀
@@LaurenBateman I do have the advantage over righties in that when I sit opposite my (right-handed) teacher, his guitar is a mirror image and so very easy to copy finger positions etc. 😀
I've been reading music since middle-school when I started learning the trumpet (waaaay back in 1982. It's been a minute. LOL) So I get *why* tablature is "backwards" -- the higher-pitched notes are higher on the page than the lower-pitched notes, just like on any other piece of music. But I *still* reverse it when I'm trying to play on the guitar, because the higher pitched notes are *lower* under my fingers (towards the floor). So when my eyes move *up* on the staff, my fingers need to move *down,* not *up.* I know this. Yet every single time, when I first try to read a piece of tablature, I get it backwards and I have to remind myself how it works. 😂
My biggest issue with tab is recognizing which pattern corresponds to which chord. I’ve looked all over for a chart, but haven’t found one. Certain chords like E, D, and A are easy to recognize but then everything gets muddy.

I’ve been playing the guitar for 97 years. And you’re definitely the clearest and most actionable guitar teacher I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, 97 years! That's amazing! Glad you're enjoying the video.
@@LaurenBateman I hope you knew I was joking.
Perfectly explained and slow instructions...exactly what this retired old lady needs. Thanks!!

Hi Leon, I unfortunately do not have a reference book for that. 😔
@ No problems, still have been a tremendous help. Thank you 🙏 so much.
You are a Mentor in song Lauren; thanks again❤😊
Great lesson Lauren! Ilook down at the chart, that way (to me anyway) it looks like the guitar strings. Thanks again.

Zager I know has a wider string profile.

Doesn't exist a proper guitar for left handed people?
Hi Keith, sorry about that. I know. It's. Right handed world 😔. I guess the plus of standard tuning is it doesn't matter if you are righty or lefty.

Being dyslexic having the high E on the top always confuses me so I have to rewrite tabs upside down. Just how my brain works.
Thanks for watching!
Think of it as if you’re looking down at your neck while holing it. So now, you’re looking at the ‘tablature’ piece. I hope this helps.
No more Gretsch ? Replaced by a PRS ? 😒
The Gretsch is still around. The light reflects less off the PRS.
