Nioh - Fastest Way to Farm the Ogress (Ogress's Claw, Ogress Mask Smithing Text) NG+

- UPDATE: Since the release of patch 1.06, the easiest way by far to farm these is to run the sub mission Hyakki Yagyo in the Omi Region. However, this is a multi boss fight, so you'll want to be a decent level to cruise through it fast. Otherwise the method in this video will still be easier for you.
Here's how to farm the Ogress in the most efficient way to have a chance at getting the Ogress Mask smithing text, Ogress's Claws and other goodies.
The build I am using in this video is my Justice Ministry Armor Set build, which you can see here:

I'm doing this on NG+ (mission level is 210, I am level 190), but you can do it on NG to make it even faster if you want as the mission on NG is only level 78 but can still drop the smithing text.

Well now on the mission Hyakki Yagyo (1.06 update) you can start the mission, kill Ogress(first boss to appear) then die, and repeat.
Yeah. I put that updated info in the description of this video the day 1.06 dropped.
cat walking+suppa talisman for quick runs to the boss, no need to clear mobs.

I did this all fine but when I returned to the title screen, I checked my inventory and I had lost the leg once I returned to farm another one, any ideas or do I have to do the whole thing again to get subsequent ones?
When you get the thing you want you have to exit the mission normally. So yes, once you get one you have to do it all again.

That's windstorm. Pretty sure the dual swords in this vid were the Shishi-o & Hone-kui's. But I eventually stopped using those in favor of the Futatsu-mei Norimune & Hone-bami Toshiro's to get the Master Swordsman's bonuses.

I pretty much only play with Windstorm, Sign of the Cross and The Shrike. Those are my 3 favorite skills in the game, and between all three you can own any boss at any level with the right build.

I was in NG+ but I did it in The Way of the Samurai difficulty. This is my status when I got the Ogress Mask smithing text:
Item Drop Rate +19.6%
Luck using living Weapon +71
Human drop rate +35%
Yokai drop rate +35%
Itokuri level 30
Hunter Blessing 25%
Also, a lot of my equipment had item drop rates
Thanks for posting that. Yeah, item drop rate, particularly Yokai item drop rate is the way to go. Itokuri all the way for farming yokai bosses for smithing texts and materials.
So, apparently, the mask is considered a "Human Item Drop," so it's best to enhance that with the Itokuri Spirit Animal (35 % Human Item Drop Rate when leveled), the Hunter's Blessing Kodama thingy, and any accessory that increases HUMAN item drop rate. I have 2 Fan accessories, each with 20% human item drop rate. I farmed for this for hours without this info. After equipping the human item drop rate stuff, got it (no shit!) on the first try! Cheers!

Sorry, but the mask is not a human item drop. All smithing texts are item drops and they are affected by material drop rates too. They can drop from humans, they can drop from yokai. Item drop rate on its own benefits both. Human item drop rate only affects humans, and yokai item drop rate only affects yokai. Ogress is a yokai, so only standard item drop rate, hunter blessing or yokai item drop rate can increase the chances of getting the smithing text from her. The reason you had more luck getting it when you made your changes is that Itokuri also has Yokai item drop rate of 35% and the Kodama hunter blessing is a further 25%. Since no humans were involved you had no other drop rate related perks to dilute your drop rates, giving you a 35% +25% increased chance that the smithing text would drop. That's a 60% additional chance that you'd get it, or that you'd get Ogress claws, or both. Fortunately RNG was on your side first go :)
Praise RNGesus!!! Maybe the fan accessories had standard or yokai item drop %'s. That definitely makes more sense. The Ogress is a yokai, not a human. I originally thought it was only, and only, about luck, so I was throwing the 2x +95 luck increases during living weapon, with the spirit animal that gives you an extra +125 living weapon luck, and then killing her while it was activated. Didn't work after numerous tries. I hesitated to post bc I know about the craziness of RNG after playing the cursed Bloodborne dungeons and actually grinding enough to get multiple bloodtinge radials for my chikage(after what had to be thousands of tries), among other very, very rare drops. But this is a bit more accessible, especially when you have accessories and spirit guardians that can increase the rate. I just never saw this fact mentioned in the videos that i was watching on the farming process. Your strategy here is brilliant. And thanks for clearing this up for me, as you've done for other things in the past. The baffled, grassroots info-gathering, Nioh community applauds you. Cheers!
Haha thanks. You shouldn't hesitate to post though. If Nioh has taught me anything it's that even when you think you're right you can turn out to be way off the mark. It seems I learn something new or more correct about Nioh every day. If I hesitated to post due to uncertainty I think I'd probably never post a thing haha. Besides, best way to find out what's true is to post what's not. People are more than happy to point out where you're wrong hahaha. :D
If you want to keep farming and farming, can you just go back to the tittle screen and use the save point.
Or do I have to start the mission everytime?
Once you get what you want you have to start the mission again.
could you use the Hairi-Kari item after not getting the loot you wanted?
The Harakiri sword ... maybe. I haven't tried it myself.

I really don't know. My first thought is it should be the same drop rate. However, it never dropped for me on NG, but it dropped pretty quickly on NG+. That's why I made the video on NG+. It does still drop on NG though.

Depends on the Kabuto. Some only drop from developer revenants like the Elephant's Trun Kabuto. But if I understand your question correctly, yes, you get the Onryoki Kabuto from Onryoki, and Hino-Enma Kabuto from farming Hino-Enma.

Do the sub mission Great Demon Hunting instead. Much faster.

Yes as Onryoki appears in that one too. However, you have more enemies to clear. If you can clear them faster than you get to him in Demon of Isles, and you should be able to, then yep, this is the one to do. Plus, there are usually a ton of revenants around just before you fight him.
took a good while but used all equipment with human item drop on it and invited a visitor who funny enough was wearing an ogress mask and got it first time!

She drops the Ogress Mask smithing text and also Ogress's Claws. With those, you can craft the Ogress Mask.
It may be that she drops the Ogress Mask itself too, but on that count I can't say yes or no with100% certainty. I mentioned it in the video as it may still be possible, though she's never dropped it for me. I know it was a part of the preoder/last chance trial gear which may be a reason why dropping the actual mask could have been removed from her drop table now. I would need someone else to confirm they had received it by farming her to know for sure, but I haven't seen anyone do that yet. I also know it can't be obtained from Revenants who died while wearing the mask. But I do know without doubt she drops the Smithing Text and the claws needed to forge it, and the smithing text drops pretty quickly once you start farming her, so yep, farm her and you'll be guaranteed to get your mask.

Well, I killed her a couple of times in NG, and a couple in NG+. But I actually got the smithing text the very first time I ran her to get the smithing text, so I was pretty lucky. I'd say I'd killed her all up 5 or 6 times maybe, but only a couple in NG+, so not many. I think the drop rate isn't too bad unless I was really lucky.
Can you not use harikiri instead of reloading?
Nope. Not only will you lose your amrita but it will save your current game when it returns you to the shrine.
Can you get this mask in Default Game? Or Only in NG+
You can get the smithing text in Way of the Samurai or Way of the Strong.

No, you can get them in NG+ too.

Seems like the best spot is the twilight mission where you encounter jorogumo in less than 1 minute, but the drop rate on her seems lower than the hira-gumo big spiders in the main mission...

Yes, over and over. Though there's not much point doing that if you've only just beat her. You'll get to fight her many many times as you progress through the game. This video was made a long time ago :P

Yeah, answer is still yes. In fact, most of the stuff like this is easier to obtain in NG. A lot of players in NG+ and NG++ go back to NG to farm stuff like this.

Sounds like it. You need to up your item drop rate and use the material drop rate kodama blessing.
