      Honestly if you just go to your local grocery stores at least once every week and ONLY buy sale items in bulk you can eat pretty damn well for cheap! You don't even need to use the prefab foods this channel uses a lot. Just learn to cook a few simple bulk meals that last for days like stews, chilis, pastas, soups etc and you'll eat like a king on very little money. You have to shop regularly though, so you're constantly stocking up on sale items or bulk items that are often cheaper than sale items(always do the math, they try to trick you). I'm not a college student, just a single guy. I literally eat like a king on 100 bucks a month. Not high calorie low nutrition food like most of the stuff in this channel either. Fresh veggies and fruits are not a problem if you have a fridge. Many of them last a LONG time.

    great idea, I enjoy these videos! I like making things like this stretch... In a hard pressed situation a box of store brand mac and cheese for 29cents you can use the same concept, toss in a store brand can of peas (or a half a can) for 40cents and bite size a single slice of any lunch meat to stir in.... I remember about 16 my folks just couldn’t afford me or rather they took my paycheck and I still had no money and things still weren’t paid but my go to meal was rice with those cheap gravy’s and I would ration out two spoonfuls of gravy to stir into my rice to give me the illusion I was eating something more than rice.... .but I liked it!!. It’s amazing how creative you can get..!!

    Food wise, if you are on a limited budget or diet, this is actually a very balanced meal for processed foodstuff. I have no idea what it's like for herbs over there, but in the UK we have herbs in pots that are very cheap in the supermarkets (talking a whole pot of growing Parsley, Cilantro, Basil or Chives for $1.50). If you have them, have you considered a tub with a herb garden in it? Mine are 3 years old and always dish up the goods on the windowsill. A small cheap, plentiful herb garden suitable for city or apartment dwelling would be a great change of direction as that is where poor standards of living are mostly found. However, I really like watching these constructive videos! Thumbs up Larry.

    • @lydialady5275
      @lydialady5275 3 года назад +6

      That is because in the hospital, you are on a budget. They're required by law to provide your medical needs, but, thete is no law requiring them to feed you palatable, pretty food. Basically, instant oats in a packet are exactly measured, so you are getting instant oats. Pancakes are cheap. So is instant potatoes. Meat, vegetables, cheese are expensive. TVP, corn, sugar, and milk are government subsidies, and therefore, cheap, creating the bulk of the hospital's menu.

      As for delivery of food, ask if you can have it delivered to the hospital and the staff bring it in to you. I've personally been in the hospital many times and I know how bad the food can be but at least it's something to eat.
      I guess you could consider the lack of taste that accompanies the virus as blursed.

      I could get a similar effect by pre slicing cheap potatoes and steaming them for a bit before adding it too the mix...Like a lot of the stuff here ....its adaptable to modification based on available goods. Plus I have never seen dried potatoes in Britain either....But that cheese mix looks suspiciously similar to awful macaroni cheese mix here. I would swap that out for proper cheap cheddar.

    There are many YT and Pinterest sites that have two -ingredient biscuit recipes that are very inexpensive to make, and turn out to be quite good. If a person on a budget (or even if not) wanted to make them to go with this, it'd be an even more comforting 'comfort food' meal, and would likely make for some warmly filled and satisfied tummies.
    I very much like the idea of adding vegetables to such "kit" foods; my father and I both loved/love mac and cheese, and for over 30 years we worked on getting the "perfect" recipe. Mom didn't care for the stuff, though if either Dad or I made it, she'd eat it by loading it up with a big serving of the required-at-every-meal hot vegetables. I liked that so much, I also started doing it, and then Dad would do the same after he saw how much we liked it.
    Adding such vegs to boxed foods such as au gratin potatoes sounds so good, I think I just might make that tomorrow!
