Some forms of NG engines are essentially diesel engines which use a small amount of diesel like a spark plug to light off a larger quantity of NG. That said, the injectors/fuel system are sized far too small to run the engine at full power on diesel. It may be possible to use the bigger injectors and make a dual fuel capability, but I know of no current engines that do it. The ISX12G and ISL-G are more like gasoline engines in that they have lower compression ratios and spark ignition. The head designs are different (note: major difference on ISL-G is 2 valve vs. 4) and they have a throttle and wastegated turbo. They are pure NG...no diesel at all.
Cory Stansbury Not on the automotive end. But Duel Fuel is now being introduced to many off highway applications, primarily in the natural gas drilling industry were they use gas coming from the well. These high horsepower engines are capable of running completely on diesel or natural gas. This is a very attractive option as these engines can consume many hundreds of gallons of fuel in an hour resulting in a huge amount of savings. This technology is very new to Cummins and is still in the process of being field tested.
Way to go Cummins!
The future looks bright ahead. Pioneers in great technological advance and innovation.
so is this basically a diesel engine with spark plugs? i dont like the idea of it not being diesel but i like the idea of no def dpf etc.
Very nice.
Is possible to use the same engine, diesel and gas, type flex?

This is a lot new tegnologic for me, i like dretoit diesel motors cats diesel motors, i'm too old for this.
