A girl I know is obsessed with them and I asked her what BTS stands for she said “Bangtan Sonyeondan” which means bulletproof Boy Scouts!! Interesting name choice, but this is the first time I’ve ever heard them so thank you for introducing their music!

They use "Boy Scouts" in the name because they were teenagers when they started - and Boy Scout is kind of translated as a "good person".
I blinked at the name too when I found out the literal translation. The Korean language doesn’t always translate well directly, so the name is probably a bit more nuanced. I really appreciated the name once I read J-Hope’s explanation: “to block out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that aim on adolescents like bullets.” They’ve taken on a bunch of societal issues, but in the early days they focused on the struggles facing the youth in particular, so it makes a lot more sense than just those two words. Anyway, that’s my fact dump of the day. lol
My understanding of Bulletproof Boyscouts is that they will take the bullets of pressure, insults etc aimed at todays youth. Like they are protecting them.

48-year-old fan from Norway here. I encourage you to take another look at BTS - either their rap stuff or their ensemble work.
Bangtan Sonyendan - bulletproof boyscouts - 3 rappers, 4 vocalists, amazing dancers, they write and produce a significant part of their own music. Their early songs are mostly Korean with some English mixed in, but they did a few all-English songs during the pandemic and some of the members have done solo songs all in English as well.
Their discography is amazing, and well worth delving into.
The rappers - Suga, check out Daechwita, Haegeum, Nevermind, Snooze, Shadow and so on. RM - Persona, Joke (which was written as a joke, kind of), Wild Flower. J-Hope - his earlier stuff is quite happy and light, his newer stuff is darker and edgier, from Ego to Arson and More is a pretty big step!
Their joint works - the Cypher series, f.ex. is great.
Full ensemble songs with strong rap elements would be Mic Drop (feat. Steve Aoki), Run BTS (not to be confused with Run, BTS ;) ) and so on.
Other MVs worth checking out is Black Swan and On: Kinetic Manifesto Come Prima.

Here an overview about BTS:
BTS (in Korean "Bangtan Sonyeondan" means Bulletproof Boyscouts) consists of three rappers and four vocalists. All seven of them are excellent dancers.
Here is the list of their names:
RM is the leader of the group (Rapper)
SUGA also goes by the name of Agust D (Rapper)
J-Hope is the main dancer and dance leader (Rapper)
Jin is the vocalist
Jimin is the vocalist
V is the vocalist
Jungkook is the main vocalist
They do a wide variety of music, but basically they are rooted in hip-hop.
All seven members participate in making their songs by writing, composing, and producing them.
BTS started with a small company that almost went bankrupt, so they have been very looked down and hated by Korean broadcasting stations and other K-pop fandom. So they have struggled from the beginning to prove themselves.
Dynamite, Butter, Permission to Dance, these three songs were released in English to give positive energy to people around the world during the pandemic caused by Covid-19. :)
Most of their songs are in Korean, and their music video provides subtitles in several languages, including English. (Please turn on the subtitles while watching)

The lyrics of BTS' songs are based on their own experiences, and their albums are organic because they contain their growth narrative. BTS are famous for their deep and meaningful lyrics. They have written almost 95% of their songs from their discography.
BTS offers a wide range of genres when it comes to their music. As a group they are explosive but they are also individually amazing in their different style of music. They make a wide variety of genres of music like Hip-hop, Ballad, R&B, pop, EDM, etc. I'm sure there are quite a few of their over 300 songs that suit your taste. :) They have numerous world records to their names.
Another song I recommend is "Run BTS". Their is no official MV for this one, they have a dance practice video and their live performance from their free Busan concert.
Lastly, I think this video is the best to understand each BTS member. ;)

The first guy to rap in this performace (when you said "hold up") is Suga (Agust D). He's my favorite.
Cypher 2and 3 are my faves for rapline. Look forward to more BTS. (I don't really care about kpop. Just BTS. But you react to what you want)

I’ll be honest. This was my first introduction to them as well and I liked it a bit but didn’t love it. It’s a beautifully crafted pop song, don’t get me wrong, but not quite my thing (I’ve since started enjoying it a whole lot more). Luckily a friend who I trust implicitly when it comes to music told me to go to one of their Korean songs before I walked away. Mic Drop made me say, “Oh! Different! I need to check out more.” and then “Black Swan” yanked me down the rabbit hole. You’ve gotten plenty of recs, so I won’t add to it. I hope you enjoy their other stuff - believe me, there are plenty of genres to choose from.

I like BTS. Being a fan of an artist doesn't require liking the industry. K-Pop isn't a genre of music, It's the Korean IDOL music industry. Multiple genre's of music are within it. BTS Debuted in South Korea as a Hip Hop Idol group, in 2013. Their core is Hip Hop and R&B. Their are 3 main rappers in the group and 4 vocalists. They can all rap, dance, sing, write music, etc. BTS are known for crossing and fusing many different genres. They don't hold to genre boundaries, and they aren't afraid to try new things, or talk about subjects that aren't normally talked about in the K-Pop Industry. they all have their own successful solo careers as well.

Thanks for reacting to BTS. Most of their songs are in Korean or a mix of Korean and English, and also some in Japanese. This is one of their poppier numbers. But they do a wide range of genres. The 3 rappers are incredible so please take some of the suggestions below and see what they can do. The other 4 are vocalists and all have outstanding voices. And their dancing is top tier. No offense intended to anyone else but I do not care for KPop. But I love BTS - Bangtan Sonyeondan.

You should react to their performance video to their song ON……choose On-Manifesto not the MV. I think yo7 will get a better picture of who they are. The rappers (there are 3) aren’t just “given small parts”…..they are the main writers and producers of BTS….extremely talented guys. Their Solo albums are worth a lesson if you like rap. All members (the other 4 are vocalists) have put out solo albums over the past year….and they are fantastic…..but BTS is never better than when performing as a group…..preferably live!

Haha. 😂 BTS has been rocking it for over 10 years busting all the records with their albums. Biggest group in the world. Funny how most Americans are late to the show. This is one of their light hearted all English songs released during the pandemic to cheer up their fans and targeted to the US market. They are a group of 4 vocalists and 3 rappers. Started out as a hip hop group and then moved to KPop. They started in 2013 and hit it big in 2016. They have a huge discography including all types of genres. All the band members are serving their mandatory military service and will be back at it in 2025. If you are new there is more material to react to then you will have days to react. Each member is an all star. They do group songs with all sen, solo songs on their album as well as songs with the rap line and vocal line. Their MVs are all high end. Hey have crazy difficult dances. They are the top of the list of all K-pop. They out sell everyone. BTS does stand for Bangtan Sonyeodan and means bulletproof boyscouts but that is different in Korean culture. It really means bullet proof youth and they write about social issues facing today’s youth.

Yeah, BTS did some simple pop music stuff for American audiences, lol. Three or four songs during covid. Billboard that year was off because of covid, so it's filmed. If you REALLY want to see it done right, go to the Grammys 2022, or the original video, but yeah, it's pop. Not too much like their other work, but brought a lot of American fans in.
The others are Dynamite, and Permission to Dance. easy-peasy. Don't underestimate them, they are the only group who had songs on the charts in three languages at the same time - Korean, English, Japanese.

No there are 3 Rappers 2 of which were part of the underground Hip Hop Scene as Rappers and one as Rapper/Producer and is an Award Winning Producer. The 3rd was a Street Dancer who learnt to Rap by listening to the other Rappers Battle rap.
