Can someone tell me about the history of "Rozkazovačky." I don't speak Slovak other than a few words so I haven't been able to learn anything about these songs and dances. Like where are they performed? What are they about?
this tradition was in middle Slovakia around "Polana" people were living far away from each other and the whole week they hard work, end of the week they met in pub and as a extra kind of singing songs with musicians there were singing this "rozkazovacky" they were compete each to each who can sing nicer and musicians follow the song which they started, after few verse (rhyme) he is starting to dance folk dance with axe (often) - excelent and difficult this kind of music is the best (for me) from whole Slovakai (hopefully I gave you little answer to your question)
+Bernard Halas Thanks! That was a great answer. Was the dance they would dance called the Odzemek? I'm amazed by this music because it shows that people have grown up with the songs and have them down by heart- so well that they can sing with a band without rehearsing. There is true life to this music.
Hi Julius, Odzemok is a dance in which the dancer jumps from standing to squatting and standing again. Or individual dance steps are squatting. From where is your contact with this music and dancing?
"Rozkazovacky" can be translated as "ordered songs" - that is everyone ordered his favorite song and music has to follow his order. You can hear that many times in this performance (e,g, 3:04 or 6:04). Music plays something, while singer steps in with a different melody. There is no common theme for the songs. The dance they performed along is typical for this region (ruclips.net/video/Xzmd0M7Wdl4/видео.html) it is not odzemok - they were trying to show off before others with something others can't do. Odzemok was typical sheperd dance more to the north (Liptov region etc.)
