Thank you for the fascinating exploration of music in Jewish mysticism! I can personally attest to the incredible power of music in inducing altered states. A few years ago I created an ecstatic practice involving music and singing and it quickly became one of my favorite because it so quickly and reliably brings me into mystical/blissful states. It brings me into deeper states of absorption and bliss than literally anything else including breathwork, yoga, psychedelics, and meditation.
Next week Sunday us Jews will be fasting the Fast of the 9th of Av, remembering the destruction of the 2 Temples and everything bad that happened to us in history. Would you consider covering the impact of the destruction of the First and Second Temples on Judaism (not asking for it to be done by next week but more it would be interesting to hear your overall take on it)?

I think part of what helped us bond was that he understood esoteric references that I was raised with that no one else ever did. We could talk about concepts and ideas that that I could only ever talk about with my dad. My father (Gd bless his soul) passed in 2020 and my partner really helped me through the grief of that. We also have an understanding that our daughter will be raised Jewish but there is no pressure for him to convert. He has exposed me to music that I never would have found without him. (My favorite genre is rap.)

It's all "religious", music in itself is inherently, immaterial and esoteric. This includes the sacred and profane, everything from the tunes you hear at a grocery store, your friends band, the DJ down the street or that Bach you play at Christmas, it's all "spiritual."
There is a persistent tradition that the earliest kabbalah focused on eight sephiroth, with ten being a later modification. If there is any truth in this, perhaps the eight 'original' sephiroth are correlated with the musical octave. Just speculating...

I don't consider myself any one religion so I figured I'd ask if my beliefs are something close to Unitarianism -Christianity is an anarchist religion about tearing down hierarchy instead of creating it. The point isn't to submit to God; God is what connects everyone, and things like wealth or borders or social classes block that connection. - The only way to escape Samsara (the endless cycle of pain and rebirth) is to embrace it and come to terms with it instead of trying to run away from it. -The Catholic Church shouldn't blame people for worshipping figues like Santa Muerte. Many of her worshippers are minorities, immigrants, refugees, sex workers, and thieves, all of whom Christianity is supposed to protect. "Blasphemous" figues like this aren't the cause of a loss of faith in mainstream religion, they're just a symptom of it.

Like what do you do if you're stuck in hell forever? You have to learn to cope with it somehow. I've stated this in other, and excellent, presentations of yours, but I think it very important that when discussing "altered states of mysticism" that one understands that the 'normal beingness' in this world, that is defined as the dichotomy of self and world, IS the most altered state! In contemporary terms that ‘real’ beingness is the dichotomy between the egoic/body-self and the world. But that egoic translation of our world view is not the 'real' (as defined by scientific materialism). So, in terms of your RUclips video regarding mysticism I would say that the path is the progressive rediscovery of the original and True state prior to the egoic translation of the "Umwelt"; our self-centered world. To put a fine point on it, our bricks and mortar world, which we perceive as our true dwelling place, is the ultimate “Altered State”. The mystical path is the re-cognition of that which is the original, non-altered and always/already Divine dwelling place. That is why mysticism is so difficult. It is the counter description of our world view that we hold so dear and fight to keep all through the mystical journey.
Prophecy is a faithful account of *'the music of celestial spheres' (the Pythagorean 'Musica Universalis')* after which mundane events come to pass 'when the time is full' - a glimpse into the *'divine economy'* , factual, but _limited in scope_ and prone to misinterpretation - out of the actual 'tune' - by the inexperienced - like a lucid dream. I can answer that Sanskrit has zero influence on Abrahamic traditions. The closest it gets is being a sort of far-removed cousin to English via the Indo-European language family. It has zero relationship to Hebrew or Arabic. (Or Persian; or Aramaic or Greek). And it's not the "mother of all languages" no matter what anyone tells you

It's all "religious", music in itself is inherently, immaterial and esoteric. This includes the sacred and profane, everything from the tunes you hear at a grocery store, your friends band, the DJ down the street or that Bach you play at Christmas, it's all "spiritual."
There is a persistent tradition that the earliest kabbalah focused on eight sephiroth, with ten being a later modification. If there is any truth in this, perhaps the eight 'original' sephiroth are correlated with the musical octave. Just speculating...

- The only way to escape Samsara (the endless cycle of pain and rebirth) is to embrace it and come to terms with it instead of trying to run away from it.
-The Catholic Church shouldn't blame people for worshipping figues like Santa Muerte. Many of her worshippers are minorities, immigrants, refugees, sex workers, and thieves, all of whom Christianity is supposed to protect. "Blasphemous" figues like this aren't the cause of a loss of faith in mainstream religion, they're just a symptom of it.

@@chendaforestI'm still learning a lot about Buddhism so I could be misinterpreting things but I think it's less about "escaping" Samsara and more about "transcending" it, if that makes sense. Like what do you do if you're stuck in hell forever? You have to learn to cope with it somehow. And Nirvana is that state of mind over matter where you can live in that suffering and accept it without denying it

I've stated this in other, and excellent, presentations of yours, but I think it very important that when discussing "altered states of mysticism" that one understands that the 'normal beingness' in this world, that is defined as the dichotomy of self and world, IS the most altered state! In contemporary terms that ‘real’ beingness is the dichotomy between the egoic/body-self and the world. But that egoic translation of our world view is not the 'real' (as defined by scientific materialism). So, in terms of your RUclips video regarding mysticism I would say that the path is the progressive rediscovery of the original and True state prior to the egoic translation of the "Umwelt"; our self-centered world. To put a fine point on it, our bricks and mortar world, which we perceive as our true dwelling place, is the ultimate “Altered State”. The mystical path is the re-cognition of that which is the original, non-altered and always/already Divine dwelling place. That is why mysticism is so difficult. It is the counter description of our world view that we hold so dear and fight to keep all through the mystical journey.

Sanskrit has zero influence on Abrahamic traditions. The closest it gets is being a sort of far-removed cousin to English via the Indo-European language family. It has zero relationship to Hebrew or Arabic. (Or Persian; or Aramaic or Greek).
