  • In this video I cover one of the most overlooked aspects of the game for builders, stability. I show some of the stranger aspects of stability that can be quite useful in designing bases for PvP. Understanding and manipulating stability is essential for constructing more advanced bases that can withstand attacks from raiders.

    For anyone wondering, fence foundations does not longer transfer stability downward. But pillars still do.

    We're building a T2 Fence Foundation base with my clan and we're having some stability issues at the moment. We're using the grid square fence foundation building method for extra HP and our entrance is about 5 square blocks deep of nothing but T2 Fence Foundations. The thing is, we're building it inside a temple, and there's a T2 Fence Foundation "pillar" (grid square build method again) at the center around which are the stairs for all the upper floors of the base. On the sides of the base (where the temple walls are), we're also building T2 Fence Foundation grids that act as side walls, which connect with the entire base through multiple points on each floor (there will be around 7 floors in the base, and a trap elevator is being planned as well) and they will serve as stability provider for the upper floors.
    So, since the foundations apparently do not transfer stability downwards with recent updates, do you think it's possible to lose the entire pillar, with everything that it gives stability to to the upper floors, in the event that a bomb destroys the lowest parts of the pillar?
    Should we connect the pillar to the side walls on the upper floors with fence foundations again and will that provide some sort of stability for the lowest level?

    I built an awesome castle over the water. The main hall was at the bottom which of course needed pillars to hold up the floors above it. The problem was if I decided to put a pillar in x spot it wasn't good enough to hold the base up for the spot right next to it. At first I was like ok I'll just put the pillar where the game wants it. But I destroyed the previous pillar thinking i didn't need. It but of course i needed it. So i had to have pillars in ridiculous patterns and exact spots. As the castle got bigger the pillar problem got bigger. I tried to remodel a little bit which did fix the problem a bit so I could destroy some of the annoying pillars. But in the end I needed those pillars back up and more.

    Does the material used to build a structure affect it's stability? I know Sandstone is the most basic build type, but if I were to, for example, make a building out of Reinforced Metal, would it have more stability than if that same structure was made out of Sandstone?

  • @corylyons1226

    Does anyone know if Stability effects damage done to a structure, for example does a ceiling with 20 stability break before a ceiling with 80 stability?

    • @WikkydGaming
      @WikkydGaming  6 лет назад +2

      No. Stability doesn't affect the hit points of a piece if that is what you mean. As long as a piece has a stability above zero, it will remain standing unless the source of its stability changes such that the piece's stability falls to zero or below. For example if a 20 stability piece has multiple sources of stability, and one of those sources is knocked out or removed, it will remain standing. If for example an 80 stability piece only has one source of stability, and that piece of knocked out or removed, it will collapse.

    Hi thanks for the info. I know this vid is 10 months old but just tried this on xbox but you can't snap fence foundation to a foundation? Have they changed this do you know?

    • @WikkydGaming
      @WikkydGaming  6 лет назад

      Yes they did change it. You have to build the fence foundation first, then snap the regular foundations to them. Royal pain in the rump.

    I need help for example a place three foundations on top of each other but I need to destroy the middle one to replace it with a door and it destroys the top how do I not make anything above not destroy?

    • @WikkydGaming
      @WikkydGaming  5 лет назад +3

      You have to place the door first, then a regular ceiling piece above it, then you can place a foundation on the ceiling piece. That is how I used to do it. That should work unless they changed it.

    I'm having some stupid aggravating problems with stability on a project I'm building.
    It's a Japanese shogun building/castle.
    Everything was going good until I got 3 floors up. Trying to put sloped roof tiles, with the correct orientation. Unable to orientate the piece in the direction I need, as it's sitting on 20% stability.
    The bad part is that I may need to start from scratch. Ugh.

    Didn't watch but just had to comment that you can build a staircase to heaven with no pillars just diagonal support beams and it looks cool. I used that technique to make a huge slanted roof with no pillars coming down. It was like 50x80ish massive. I used admin to build it obviously but its alot of work. This game is the best.

  • @sandune02
    @sandune02 6 лет назад +2

    yes, very informative. however, i am not a fan of the stability mechanic. i personally feel that it takes away from player creativity. and in a survival game such as it is. it is focused on creativity. adding stability rules does nothing but limit the creativity of the player base. in my opinion, this is not a good decision. when your players get sick of trying to build something epic and they get mostly done and ultimately with issues because for some damned reason you cant snap some pieces and are left with an ugly ass hole in your almost epic building. they tend to lose interest and give up altogether. not only that. but this mechanic is inconsistent. for example. i was trying to build a map room. yes, we all know the struggles with this. i had 2 identical sections. one section was completed, yet on the other section i had a single space that could not snap. i couldnt figure out why. it was the exact same as the other, yet it just wouldnt fucking work. this happens EVERY time i try to build a building. i run into these damned issues.
    it should be simple enough to just give individual pieces a health, and then link health pools down to its base or whatever so that when u attack a wall piece you achieve the same result, without having to worry about the issues with building them.

    • @Platinum_Tugboat

      You've literally describe the exact position I'm in right now.
      Building something, a Japanese shogun castle. And about 3 floors up I cant place a piece I need to, it won't let me orientate the piece the way I need it, even tho the previous floors let me do so with no problems. This games building mechanics fucking frustrates me to no end!!

      @metalbull2723 5 лет назад

      @@Platinum_Tugboat can you please tell me your solution? my problem rn is that i want to make a roof made out of straw, but i cant place the ramps on the edges....AND I DONT KNOW WHY. infact i cant place anything at the edge...

    • @Platinum_Tugboat
      @Platinum_Tugboat 5 лет назад

      @@metalbull2723 I had a similar problem. My solution was to check the stability. When placing roof tiles, the stability needs to be above 40% to place anything on top of it. Build a hammer (building hammer I think it's called?) and you can check the stability.
      My stability was at 20% and I had to place foundation pieces and then use pillars.
      Pillars transfer the stability from what it's attached to, foundation pieces always have 100% stability.

  • @TastyGamingQc
    @TastyGamingQc 2 года назад

    Most annoyingly stupid mechanic in the entire game. If only it actually worked that would be fine. No you can have two side exactly build the same way and oops by some random game calculation one is actually not stable enough to have a roof. Bc that make sense of course.
