  • In this episode Onsite Vlog #5 Preparing for Trusses, work continues on the roof of this attic conversion and two storey extension project.
    We give you a look at how we begin preparing for the installation of the Trusses
    Tony uses the Hilti laser level to level steel beams prior to the Trusses installation.
    Will gives you an insight to his previous time as a pizza chef and his perfect pizza.
    Tony is at the merchants first thing picking up some blue engineering bricks.
    He needs 73mm imperial for this job instead of the metric 65mm blue.
    The JCB telehandler 540-170 arrives on site. It is a 17m telehandler with forklift jib extension.
    It gets loaded up with Gyproc fire line fire resistant plasterboards and chicken mesh wire needed to
    put between the steel beams and the lath and plaster ceiling.
    Finally its office work and resolving client supplier issues. It involves brick to brick gap measurement with the door and frame manufacture installation, where the aluminium frame tolerance hasn't been allowed for.
    Chicken mesh: amzn.to/3yxP8QZ
    Gyproc fire resistant plasterboards: amzn.to/3Ey549Y
    PU foam roof insulation: amzn.to/3SUhVYj

    Hopefully this is a lesson for your client to leave all the critical measurements to you and your team as the knock on effect can really mess up your schedule and would probably cost them more in the long run if it kept happening. Great videos really enjoy watching the wide variety of content! 👍

    As others have said, it should have been specified that the dimension given were from brick to brick. Saying that, if the manufacturer had anything about them they would have asked the question if the dimensions were tight or if a tolerance had been included in the measurement.
    With regards pizzas I'd always go for the veggie options everytime 🍕

    As a manufacturer, I would double check sizes before manufacture

      Hi Pat I personally think the manufacturer is at fault they were given Brick to Brick sizes, but the clients are no better off, thanks for watching all the best Tony 👍

    With regard to the window sizes, I would always write in bold on and drawings, 'THESE ARE TIGHT, STRUCTURAL OPENING SIZES'. Unfortunately, on my opinion, the fault is with the client on this one😬 Time to get the planer/angle grinder fired up😵Great video guys🤩

    That vlog was a wrap-up of the week 😂 Regarding the aluminum doors, my supplier makes them exactly to the figure I give them. If the client told them 2730, they've made them to 2730, then it seems like you're gonna be firing up the stihl saw?? You'll get there mate, I'm sure you'll take it in your stride.

    He has a good crew to work with.
    My favourite pizza is a Hawaiian pizza.
    You have a ruff opening for a window or door. It's up to the supplier and manufacturer to communicate with each other to figure out what size window or door will fit.
    Supplier - I have a opening this big. What will fit?
    Manufacturer - Something this big.

  • @davidhill431

    Customer completely at fault. The manufacturer must have this all the time so to avoid disputes they get the dims signed off. My guess is they are a large company; when you have teams of people processing alot of work you have to stick to strict rules. Otherwise you'll just end up with a big mess!

    • @BuildWithAE

    Most manufacturers work to the final measurements therefore the person who ordered should have made sure what his responsibilities were.
    Typical rookie mistake, the owner should have paid "You" or the manufacturer to do a site check measure, would have been a lot less expensive.
    It also depends what was written on the order, maybe you could show it? I have a strict ordering method and system which is to measure at least twice preferably on different days and draw a rough sketch for the fabricator ------ It would have been a good idea for the fabricator to ask a couple of questions.

    Love to see lads carrying stuff 20 yards over to a teleporter ..any window company I use I always let them come out and measure on site. Then it's nothing got to do with me.. I also let the client pay them directly so I don't have to put the money through my books to make nothing on it.. I'm only a small builder tho.. if they want pink windows in the house it's nothing to do with me.. any scratches it's their problem..

  • @soundslight7754

    Clients should leave taking measurements to builders: they work day in day out with tolerances and measure realistically

  • @bscott77
    @bscott77 2 года назад +1

    Fault depends on what measurements were asked for really. If they asked for door measurements or opening measurements. Such a common thing this though to be fair so if I was the manufacturer I’d definitely double check before accepting

    • @BuildWithAE
      @BuildWithAE  2 года назад

      Hi B Scooter the manufacturer is known of it and yes the clients should of checked the paperwork before they signed but the manufacturer shouldn’t of got it wrong they were given Brick to Brick, this can so easily happen when the clients don’t want to pay the management fee on top and then should leave it to us.
      Thanks for watching all the best Tony 👍

    Hi Tony! Remember having this problem when I was a young chap ordering my first upvc door, gave opening dimensions over the phone and that’s what size door I received 😢 never made that mistake since!!. So I guess the clients at fault, however it seems a shame the manufacturers didn’t confirm/ explain to the client..

      Hi Dave pizza is on the list tonight 😂,
      I think personally the manufacturer should at least find common ground but they are having nothing to do with it clients signed the paperwork even thou the clients told the lady the Sizes were Brick to Brick, opening can change in size depending on brick gauge and bond to make it look better thanks for watching all the best Tony 👍

    I’d say the clients in the wrong he measured it so he should of taken the tolerances out, if the manufacturer had measured it then it would be there fault whenever I measure up for windows and doors I always take 10mm off the height and 10mm off the width

    Tony have you ever done a Vlog about how A&E started, its journey to now, size of the business, number of people, strategy for the growth of the business etc? You clearly do great quality work and I would suggest the culture and model of delivery is fine tuned and I wonder if growth is your plan or if quality control with growth is a concern for you. I really enjoy your Vlogs, the energy of you and the team and it would be great to understand more about the journey thus far and the aspirations / plans for the future.

    Interesting conundrum that one Tony. If the customer clearly stated brick-brick opening size (in writing!!) then the manufacturer should bear the burden for not adjusting sizes for fitting. If the customer signed off on the order with the overall dims but no reference to brick to brick (cos the critical bit of info didn't make it onto the drawings/order and the client didn't spot it, then that's a 50:50 between client and manufacturer. And you'd hope the manufacturer would make an offer to resolve the issue.
    But...if I'm paying a main contractor for a large project then the risks of delivery lies with them. I'm happy to pay a premium to a MC to defer my risk onto them - which includes them resolving any cock-ups they make. So bottom line - all could have been avoided if client had not got involved. I suspect it was cost negative for them in the end.

    • @BuildWithAE
      @BuildWithAE  2 года назад +1

      Hi Matt it’s definitely a conundrum, clients should never get involved really, but what can we do but try and pick up the pieces thanks for watching all the best Tony 👍

    I’ve had the same problem in the past. Manufacturer wouldn’t budge. I totally blame the manufacturer. They know full well about the tolerances but looks like they were rushing when reading the paperwork. In my case best they could do was offer a discount on a new purchase.
