About 30 years ago I was in a bar when a guy came in with his Downs Syndrome sister that loved to sing and the guy behind me was making fun of her. I got up and slapped him across the face and I told him that young lady was born that way what's your excuse! I started my career in Mental Health at one of the Old State Mental Hospitals and we had almost 800 patients in 1978. I loved those patients and I was very protective of them!
I'm crying, I have a son with Down Syndrome,we r in Jamaica and there is no affordable school for him to attend at 7yrs old! This school looks very friendly and supportive!
Most wouldn’t understand this I feel because they don’t have family like this but I about cried. You don’t even know we call these people disadvantaged I think they are more advantaged than we are. We just can’t in the majority see them in the right light in my personal opinion.
Valentine's Day , celebrated in schools was changed , because not everyone received a Valentine , so the same must be applied to prom - what were the originators of the Prom thinking - Bad idea 😮
One of my school electives is an art class with some 6th graders (who I’m older than) and some special needs students. The students I work with are mostly nonverbal though they are more active. You can tell two of them like each other but they make really loud sounds to please the other so we have to separate them. We did have one student who was in a wheelchair, an absolute sweetheart, though sadly he passed away during the school year. He was honored in a few different ways, we gave all of his art to his family, some girls made a poster for him and had people sign it, and he got a whole page on the year book with pictures of him and things he did. ❤️
