I’m thinking about doing the same. But with different carbs tho. Mine is a 280zx with starting problems, and I can’t deal with the wiring... It’s a mess. Looks fun to tag along and also looking forward to seeing the results
There is a system called Easy fast. That up grades the entire system called EZ-Fast. It comes with a new wiring harness, a new SELF LEARNING computer the size of a guitar stomp box. It Illuminates the air flow meter, and a few sensors. And it's garage friendly to install your self ( redline 280z installed two systems on 2 Datsun Z) Thing to note on a Z with fuel injection. The system is installed on the left hand side of the Car. Leaving the complete wiring for everything else on the right side of the car.
@@RJDMaskell the su carbs were the flat ones with close to zero support. i canceled the order and found someone nearby with a complete dual weber 32/36 used kit for $300. carbs, adapters, manifolds and linkage. just finished rebuilding them. looking for the most simple setup. i have no emission regulations where i live, so going dirty af.
I have a 1978 280z with SU carburetors and now I can’t get spark and,,.. I’m sick of looking at my car look like a paperweight …..it was running with EFI now it want startup it Turn over nice with great compression I get power everywhere except coil
i subbed.. i just got a 78 280z ...did your car run at all? did you even try to get it running or just dont want to mess with the EFI? I seen my car run 20 years ago but it has been sitting since then and has SO MANY ISSUES!! Im going to buy a stock carb set up just in case... that EFI system sucks to work on... thats what i have learned in 4 days
Hi Chris, No I knew right from the start that I wanted carbs so just headed in that direction. If your in the uk and want any of my efi bits to help get yours running just let me know. It looks to be a pretty simple efi system as it’s completely separate from any of the other car wiring but maybe tricky to get parts for now days. Good luck with your build 🤘
The stock system many people still run it.. BUT think about the control computer is not only Physically old. But was designed years before DESK TOPS ! GOD .... If you want fuel injection. It's best to get a modern stand alone, a modern fuel rail a modern intake manifold like " protunerz" then bigger injectors , bigger throttle body. And you need a modern coil over ignition and sensor timing instead of distributor. And when you do all that, you should just turbo it ... SO CARB BACK DATING IS WAY CHEAPER ! I always back date to the dual carbs. But now they are getting harder to get a hold of and prices rising, all the time. Soon up grading the fuel injection will be the option. Or if you have ALL the parts ,an engine swap. So Z life is starting to become, expensive. No longer the cheap performance Car. It's become another expensive Classic ! Such is life....
I absolutely agree with you but this car is never going to be fast so I’m quite happy having the SU sound and loosing a bit of performance. Maybe if budget allows it will go triples later.

Thanks, I have been waiting on parts but I should have everything very soon to get the carbs built back up and ready to go.

Yeah same here, constantly not running due to its a system.
Doing the same in a few months thanks for making the vid
No problem bud, let me know how you get on.
i am doing the same! just ordered 240z e88 intake with su carbs off ebay for $250! screw that mess!
Wow thats good, I couldn't find a working set for less than £500 over here.

I just bought a 300zx Z31 that had its fuel injection system swapped by a carb. Not sure if I should try to go back or embrace it.
I can see the benefits in the injection for reliability but for me I would have to stick with carbs for the sound.

You can also just remove the EGR valve and delete most of the crap on the efi intake. SUs suck.
Need some help
I did the same thing with SU now it want start up I’m getting no spark to the coil
Twin SUs are a retrograde conversion for a six; triple webers or ITB injection are far better for performance.
