Nice job on the kindling. You can can feel peace there. Even if it comes with some anxiety. With Starlink, sat coms, helicopters and air boats, you’re not that far from assistance these days days.
Omg Carol I loved that you shared your fears as a Mom. I also loved you learning to do the kindling, I find myself wanting to try more things myself. Very inspiring. You and Pete are very good together! Great video❤ wishing you a wonderful Holiday from northern BC😘
Thank you for sharing your vulnerability and resilience. I have learned so much from watching and meeting you both. I love watching your life and it has bolstered my journey to adventure and way of being.
Heartfelt commentary Mom (Carol)......beautiful pictures of nature not seen here in Southern California........THANKS! I'm sure with all your life experiences.....EFRT will make it through the interesting and unique experiences of the cabin iso for this short period! Kindling Queen ROCKS.....good job...now onto the next learning experience! Stay warm! Taco B
All EFRT videos are pretty great but this one is distinguished by Carol's real-time processing of the ramifications of the unexpected early icing closing off access to the mainland. Credit to you, Carol, for your quick assessment, calm reasoning and earlier food preps. Also for acquiring, on camera no less, an important new skill in chopping wood and refining into kindling. It is also great strength and coordination exercise. I enjoyed chopping wood while growing up in Hood River and now practice firewood skills on camping trips during Virginia's warmer months. Weather will always be the big x-factor in off-the-grid situations and an additional character, so to speak, in EFRT's winter cabin series. Am looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds in the months ahead. P.S. - impressive how Pete swiftly dispenses with the perilous tree limb, ably assisted by the ever-adorable Lando! Happy Holidays!
Hi guys another cracking vlog adventure thanks for sharing. Love how you all work together to replan and adjust your projects and procurement plans for the winter freeze prep. Wishing y'all all the best for the winter. Be well and stay safe. Puck.
looks beautiful....I'm getting the same weather as I live about an hr from you, I live 20mins from town and seen your truck in the area. Watching your video makes my day cause I wish I could live that way...Have a great day guys!!
Oh my! I'm so glad you guys are better prepared this year. The crystals in the snow looked so beautiful with the sun shining on them. Love how Lando helps you around, so cute. Love and be safe!😘❄VE
What a great way to start our Sunday morning!!! Beautiful in snow. We are in south Florida visiting family. If we could, we would ship an Airboat to you. They are easy to find here.
We always keep Parmalat Milk on the shelves. Not sure if you have it in Canada or not. It’s pricey, but well worth it. The beauty of your lake at each season is astounding. Each season has its own unique magic! Carole, being a lifelong independent learner is something we all should strive for. Good for you. Each skill you master you will carry it through out your life ❤
Northern Tool in the States(Princess Auto in Canada?) Sells a kindling tool. You hold the wood on a cast Orion blade device and strike the wood with a small mallet or light sledge hammer. Safer than swinging an ax or hatchet near your hands?
Love how I get to start every Sunday morning.Winter sure has come to your island. Lando has stolen the show for me;what a special member of EFRT family.❤
Super great video. I will never see such spectacular landscapes myself nor experience the quiet hibernation you are privy to but it is nice for me to imagine through your videos. Thx so much.
Another great video guys. Yeah, it’s been so cold here in Michigan. The last couple of days food looks delicious. Good job on the splitting wood Carol Lando. He is such a good helper. 😊 ok 👌🏼🔥🤠🔥Camping Russ out
It is a skill to learn preparedness. You did well getting freeze dried supplies put up in the past. It is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Lesson learned. Dont trust the weather. Storms arise out of no where these days. Why not get some chickens and rabbits for good egg and meat backup plan? What a beautiful place to ride out the winters to come. You are an amazing woman. Challenging yourself to learn skills. Awesome.
Or, use a large Bowie knife as a sharp wedge and hit the tip of the blade with a scrap of wood. LTVL uses this method with success. LTVL=Livin the van life-RUclips.
At our off grid cottage I soak kindling in diesel then a couple pieces of kindling infused with diesel, a couple pieces of newspaper to carry them inside, then the diesel in the kindling starts a maintains the flame until the larger logs burn.
HI PETER CAROL DAN PETE 👋 WHEN I WAS LOOKING UP FAN BOATS . NOTHING REALLY SHOWED UP , BUT WHEN I LOOKED UP AIR BOATS, I STARTED SEEING THEM . MOST WERE SOLD . BUT THIS IS IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 🇺🇸 EASTERN COAST . I WISH YOU LUCK & PRAYERS ❤
Awesome channel, your life choices are a real inspiration, not just the adventure, but the closeness of your family. An idea for kindling is fabricating or purchasing one of those kindling splitters that use a wall mounted lever - safe and easy option.
You could get shelf milk, it comes in a box is liquid real milk, comes in pints, comes in whole,1% or 2% and I think 🤔 buttermilk. You refrigerate before use and of course after. I use it alot in winter. That powdered milk is disgusting!
Yikes! Cold here..but after seeing the lake...no complaints...Be safe. I had to come back and add to my comment! More! More! Of trying new things...you did great!!!🎉🎉🎉
Good morning from Surrey British Columbia. In August my husband and I with our youngest 2 kids were enjoying late August week at our favorite lake, Mara Lake. We found you two on You Tube as there was a storm that evening....gosh just hooked on your videos!.. As a mom I totally get it about the shopping and kinda everything. I like to think about helicopter could help you out for say a medical emergency. Thanks for taking us on your serene life.
Forget the fan boat…contact US gov for large, cargo-carrying drones. And don’t believe them when they tell you they don’t know what you’re talking about. 😊
What’s your word Carol, besides “simple”? COZY! It looks so Cozy to me….if only. I would love a spot like that, not alone though. The woods freak me out. Pretty sad when you live your life vicariously through a (wonderful) Canadian family I never met …. at age 63. I’m here in New England, more suburbia ( if you can even call it that anymore), city’s moving in. Massachusetts, the armpit of New England, but didn’t God say?….. He puts His light in a dark world. Stay armored up Stay prayed up The Promise Land is straight ahead but before we can move into “The Golden Age”, the U.S. dollar must fall, economy’s around the world will fall=NESARA/GESARA… aka-TRUMPSARA BUT men’s hearts will fail them for what’s about to come on the earth
Doesn't Canada have non-refrigerated milk? I buy Parmalat which can be stored in cabinet and does not need refrigeration until it's opened. Right now my Parmalat is dated until mid-March 2025. Europeans always have this kind of milk. I'm surprised that you would not have stocked up on this type of milk.
Since you guys live on an island with so many pine trees. You should harvest some fat wood from the dead pines on the island. I'll bet there is a lot out there. It's the best fire starter nature provided.
Golfed yesterday and walked the 18. I'm not sure I could live in that cold stuff! Lol. Golfing again tomorrow at a fancy course...... enjoying freedom!! Timmy C Arizona
Beautiful crystals
Nice job on the kindling.

Bravo to Carol for the awesome axe swing and making kindling. You got it 😊

This may be my new favorite episode! Watching as you learned to split your own kindling was so special. Lando is such a good helper!

Another great video. Carol have you ever thought about waterglassing eggs? I waterglass eggs for myself and my daughter
That’s a great idea. Never done it but will definitely try it. Thanks.

Good morning
✌️❤️👌
Being without convenience makes us remember of days gone by!!
Watch out for your feet... Stay safe
That would be nice to sit with a warm cup of coffee or cider. Let your stress go and to me it's like heaven
It is so pretty! ❤

Wondered if you had ever tried the swedish practice of cleaning your wool sweaters in snow?
I haven't tried that method but it sounds interesting!

If your not Comfortable Chopping logs with big axe, just uses the same principle when splitting for Kindling & uses a hammer on back of axe.

Down in the in Louisiana and areas like that have fan boats for the swamps usuallys see them in lower 48 another reason for a road trip next year
DRAMA at the Island!!!
Nice to enter that phrase where you will be spending the winter on the island except to make runs into the marina on the snow-dogs!!
