    Water comes from the Interstate and Beavers work hard to stop the draining to the lakes. It never ends. I swear they have a network and cell phones.

    We were hit by Hurricane Michael (Cat 5) Oct 10, 2018 in the center of the eyewall. It leveled our trees in a swath from Panama City FL clean into Georgia! We are cleaning 200 acres of forest with no help to speak of. FEMA took what was in our yards but does not address forest issues. The media doesn't say squat about us but believe me, the devastation is INSANE! When they do mention Michael they only talk about the touristy parts. I detest the media!

      I agree Sandra. The media is as bad as the politicians. It's amazing how inaccurate they are. They lie deny and then if that doesn't work they get highly offended and accuse you of being a racist or Nazi. The guy operating the tractor is much better than I am👍

      I agree wholeheartedly. We were hit with two hurricanes after Katrina hit New Orleans. Several tropical storms since then including one that dumped 70+ inches on us. FEMA should be dragged out and flogged.

      Who owns that 200 acres? If you own it why would anyone else have to pay to clean it up? I will come and clear it for you if i can own part interest in it.. Did you get the beavers out of that area? If not they will rebuild that damn.

    Things like this are why tractors have very good brakes.
    The gate type grate is a good idea but I think that putting some cables on every joint and tying them together on a heavy ring that you can hook to the grappler would make it easier to lift and lessen the risk of pulling it apart.

    I have ongoing Beaver Intruders too, your best solution kind of depends on the equipment you have available. You may want to consider Beaver for Thanksgiving dinner, that should keep them out for a year or three. And the beaver hats make great Christmas gifts -) I haven't seen anyone take a dam with a grapple before I don't know how he kept that tractor out of the drink...that looked a little hairy for a minute but worked fine. Most of my dams are in places I couldn't get a tractor close enough to without sinking in the mud.
    One idea if you're not going to trap them. I'd weld a frame with a bottom scoop on it for the gate, and put a big chain on it so you don't have to get all down in there with a heavy Grapple on the front. That way one tug on the chain would pick up everything in one pull. Maybe weld the whole thing out of rebar to make it stronger, and put a LOT more weight on the back of that tractor

  • @johnbaker1039
    @johnbaker1039 5 лет назад +5

    You need to add some plastic pipe that is under water and sticks out beyond the gate you installed by 10 to 25 feet. The beavers will still block the gate but with the underwater pipe it will still drain. You could install a couple levels to be more effective.

    I've never understood why after removing so much wood and brush that nobody burns the refuse. By leaving it so close to the site, the beavers don't have any difficulty in reusing it. Also, due diligence of removing what they do daily surely would discourage them.

    • @SandraOpines
      @SandraOpines  5 лет назад +4

      We have been moving wood for 10 months. 200 acres doesn't get cleared in an instant. The loggers stopped a couple of months in so it is just me and hubby doing this. No one to hire. Cat 5 Hurricane recovery is a decade project... not a rake the yard project. Please review the rest of my videos which is just a small snippet of our lives. We have 4 tractors that run 7 days a week. We also dug out 16 homes after the hurricane. The media doesn't tell you about our devastation because we are a bunch of Trump supporters but believe me it is INSANE here.

      Kerry Ward yup any second I was waiting for a splash I’d build up the bank with what looks like plenty of material around first that way I could get closer and not at such an extreme angle plus add more ballast to the tractor looks sketch . Hate to be a keyboard critic but I am a full time tractor operator and looked sketchy but with out being there who knows I’d definitely put a ton of large rock in front of that culvert also to keep the beaver away, close enough to act as a filter I’ve had to do that for a customer we added a half moon shape rock dam with 12” rock or larger about 3 ‘ encircling it if ya will higher than the water line when flooded works great ! Do the same thing by fast moving drainage to prevent ditches from fast erosion can fill up with silt depending on area but that’s why we use large rocks no call backs yet ! Good work though sir

    He needed to clean out some more from each side of the pipe so he could get the gate down a little bit more. But it definitely dropped the water and having the gate will do as you said and keep them out of the pipe. That would be a hell of a mess if they got in the pipe. You'd have to dig the pipe up out of the ground then so you would be able to get inside of it and clean it out. Beavers can be a big nuisance. 👍

      You people STILL don't read do you? We know it is beavers, we know the difference between Dams and Dens. They use what is available. The fence keeps them from building in the middle of the culvert. It costs thousands of dollars when they build in the middle of a culvert and you have to bring in an excavator to clean it.
      I am just shocked at the ignorance in the comments Just insane.

      @@SandraOpines What do you mean “You people”? I came to my own conclusion free from external influence. I simply offered my discernment and moved on. Sad that you take someone freely commenting on your video as an insult.
      Anyways, what you pulled out of the entrance to the culvert is debris, NOT beaver construction. It is neither a beaver dam, nor a beaver lodge. Beavers build dams using organic materials including tree trunks, branches, vegetation, and mud. They do not use metal fences.
      Why do you think in this video the water turbidity is so high? Why do you think the ground is so damp everywhere? Why do you think there are felled trees everywhere, laying down in the ground? It is because of the hurricane, not beavers. Beavers don’t build inside of culverts that small, the diameter of the pipe is too small to build and maintain structure.
      Let us consider the occluded pipe for a moment. You mentioned in the video that the beavers must have buried it there to stop the water from running. Now consider that an extremely powerful hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 160 mph has just swept over your property. Which is more likely to cause widespread damage? Which is going to spread debris over a large area? Not beavers certainly.
      This particular incident wasn’t beavers. It wasn’t their construction. This happened because a hurricane knocked over a fence, and because of high waters, it rushed down stream. As the water got closer to the culvert, it sped up in accordance with Bernoulli’s principle. This drew the fence closer, faster, along with other debris that happened to be flowing. The fence, obviously too large to fit into the culvert became occluded at its entrance. The high water turbidity meant that there was a great amount of suspended solids in the water, explaining why it seems buried when it was pulled out. The suspended solids dropped out when the water stagnated, sinking to the bottom. Because the fence was not initially completely blocking the culvert, it allowed water to keep flowing. This drew even more debris to the culvert, which was snagged on the fence, eventually completely occluding the culvert.
      It is also untrue that they use whatever available. If the supply of trees is depleted, they invariably abandon their site. They don’t go looking for more or different materials, or whatever’s available, they leave.
      Not Beavers.

    Float something through that culvert with a stout line tied to it and then tie it off at both ends. If it does get full of stuff at least you could tie a 55 gallon drum or something to the line and pull it through with a winch or a tractor. If you can’t really get down in there with anything, I have seen cases where they had to drive a big post pretty deep into the ground downstream a few yards during a period where it was dry, and attach a snatch block to the post, and then run the line through the snatch block, turn 90 degrees, and tie it off somewhere up on the bank where they could get to it. In one case I saw, the winch just pulled the ATV it was attached to towards the water, and they had to tie the ATV to a tree!

      The Beavers will rebuild, but without the gate they would rebuild in the middle of the culvert which is impossible to clear. At least with the gate the dam is built outside of the culvert where we can easily get access to it.

      A couple of reasons. 1. Standing water causes horrific mosquito issues which carry disease. 2. It is the logging road that is being used to drag out all of the wood that Hurricane knocked down.

      Oh yeah, looks so good and "natural" and hearth warming when IT'S NOT on YOUR property !! I had major damages on my hillside fishing/vacation cabine some years ago from flooding in spring due to a bloody beaver damn. Not fun. Insurance not paying for due "negligence" from my part during winter months when we cannot go access my property !
      Local authorities woud'nt allow trapping or other means of getting rid of those pests. "You are invading THEIR territoty. Live with it !" they said.
      Well, nothing that a borrowed .22 rifle cannot solve, right ? End of history.
      PS Beavers are NOT an endangered species. Oh so far from it !! Pests.

I fully approve them on many scandalous actions - like right now, a case of industrial soils being disposed of by subs controled by the local mafia. As a longtime fisherman, I used to go on trips way up north, in semi virgin areas and thousands of lakes, many of them from beavers work. Awesome and yes, beautiful. But in the wild, their territories. But not in semi-urban areas.
